I liked this episode and the last one well enough. Usually LOVE 30 Rock though. Feel it's yet to hit its stride since the break. I don't get the idea that there's been some corporate/soulless change in direction or anything. It's still the same as its ever been as far as plot and characterisation is going, just the material is a little weaker. Still, more memorable and roflworthy lines in a sub-par episode of 30 Rock than in 99% of comedy shows.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 November 2008 03:32 (seventeen years ago)

I wonder what Richard Moll had going on that was so important he couldn't make it on board for this episode. Were his terms really that non-negotiable?

Aniston was easily the best part of this episode, and I find that really weird.

kenneth was a++ this whole episode

some doobie brother (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 15:37 (seventeen years ago)

Except Mee Ow is a rip on the Simpsons' Blue Haired Lawyer's assistant:

Bart: I want a divorce from my parents.
Lawyer: You WHA?!
Bart: I said I want a divorce from my parents.
Lawyer: Yes, I heard you. I was just calling my secretary. Yu Wah, give me the standard child divorcing parent form.
Yu Wah: Yes, sir

I didn't like this much last night, but going back and reading all the jokes here makes it seem funnier.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 November 2008 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

I thought the Office episode last night was better than the 30 Rock episode.

o. nate, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

But It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia trumped them both.

Sugar hiccup, Makes a pig soar and swoon (Pillbox), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

I'm glad Arrested Development didn't have some dickweed playing clarinet all over it. I'd like this show a whole lot more without the constant orchestral whimsy.

da croupier, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

blame mr. fey (although the music's never bothered me)

Oh come on! It was awesome last night when Baldwin signaled to the orchestra to start the "cut to commercial" music!

aniston scared me

put points on your face (ice cr?m), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, the music doesn't seem to bother people. I think gratuitous bullshit just gets to me - I couldn't stand the narration on Arrested Development at first, though where that element turned out to be pretty key, this show's music just seems clumsy - as does the staging. 30 rock has such a great cast and good jokes that it sucks the production feels so slapdash. Every NBC show looks like shit now, though.

xpost i'd laugh if he ever signaled them to stop during a conversation their toodling under.

da croupier, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think she was acting. xp

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

also, I had no idea Tina's husband wrote the music. Explains why they haven't changed it.

da croupier, Friday, 14 November 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

I think the 30 Rock musical score would bother me if I hadn't heard the Curb Your Enthusiasm musical score first.

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

i got no problem with the music. it's very... TV... which is what the show is going for

s1ocki, Friday, 14 November 2008 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

yeah...i'm trying to think what the most likely alternatives would be (generic guitar rock, Scrubs-style manic percussion, silence) and none of them seem preferable.

There's no suitable alternative, and I actually kind of like it the way it is.
