It suggests to me that the editor thinks there will be page hits and/or newsstand sales, and nothing more.

guys let's not nitpick -- point is Sean Penn is a good example of a 'serious' actor who wins awards, gets to direct, and is allowed to speak out on behalf of 'issues,' no matter how dense he comes off to any reasonable person

All she has to do is sober up for a few weeks & get someone to cast her in some awards-bait indie flick & the world will welcome her back with open arms. She's all of 24 - her career is far from over

For Hollywood I doubt this is the case. She's tainted far too much. Honestly, I think it is over for her. And let's not forget her kookoo family that follows her everywhere. Good lord.

But I hope (for her) I am wrong.

I don't see her cleaning up all that fast, either; she's spoiled, self-entitled and will probably become bitter and increasingly so, long before she cleans up.

i don't know her that well. but i would imagine that one or two spoiled and self-entitled people have gone far in hollywood.

she didn't exactly have Downey's career before

like she could definitely have a rebound eventually but realistically it'll be as like 3rd billed on a TV series that wins a few Emmys

..and Downey seems like more of a charming drunk/rapscallion than, say, lohan who seems self-entitled, etc.

LL has certainly picked more than 1 good script, depending on your definition of "good." I have thoroughly enjoyed at least 3 of her movies, and I am dead-set on Inferno being a stone-cold classic. I think it's very early to posit that her career is over. It all depends on whether or not she can act like a person with brains, and on whether or not she can pick good roles. If she isn't a total fuck-up, she'll make the most out of Linda Lovelace and give everyone the fuck-you/fuck-me performance of her life.

Also, all of the LL press of the last number of years, including this jail sentence, may be detrimental to her career at this time, but it is the stuff of legends that might actually prove beneficial to her BO bankability at some point in the future. I think she is sort of capitalizing on it with the decision to make a movie about an infamous porn star of completely demented proportions. I mean, fuck, I'll buy the ticket, and I know plenty of people who will as well.

I worked on a TV show with several insane substance-abusers-to-the-point-of-often-not-being-able-to-do-their-jobs actors and all I can say is that it made the crew really, really bitter.

lindsay was pretty cute, but shes turned in basically one engaging performance, on the back of a pretty good script with a great supporting cast.

don't think there's enough evidence either way here. she isn't the best thing in 'mean girls' (i.e. rachel mcadams) but is still very good. n e ways, i don't think you can predict. i've never liked drew barrymore in anything but she pulled it off.

Are you talking about Mean Girls, Max? Cuz she also turned on the same sort of charm in Freaky Friday and Just My Luck. And in the Altman, I thought she was pretty great at playing a confused, bitchy teenager (or, herself).

Drew Barrymore comes across as nice, though.

just shootin the shit here but im not convinced she's fucked for life. think she's more talented and likeable than, say, kate hudson, who still gets to topline movies, and everyone likes a comeback.

yeah, great point. max, i totally see what you're saying in that her light-up-a-screen charm so ingrained in movies like mean girls and FF was definitely diffused elsewhere in her career, but i still think she can turn it on.

if you look at say THIS THREAD in the months leading up to that movie the posts are mainly about drugs, eating disorders, etc.

like, there's still something that makes me want to watch her, more than half the other actresses in hollywood, even if she's lost sight of it for the time being.

no, i saw it, but she certainly didnt come across as a "star" in it--she seemed like a capable young actress, which i think she is

if the bar we're lowering for LiLo is "better than Kate Hudson" than this is the saddest game of limbo I've ever seen

Drew Barrymore - there's some movie I liked her in, plus I think she's cute and approachable. Also, last name anybody?

Kate Hudson - One good movie performance, otherwise cruising on looks and powerful family connections.

LiLo - I've only seen one performance, but she comes across as a person as witless and pompous and her family are a serious liability to her. A comeback, everyone loves, but she's no longer an ingenue, even at 24, what w/the bad makeup and the drug-addled looks.
