La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

speaking of tv has anyone bothered to get a digital converter yet?

Jordan, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:13 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I have to since my TV is HD.... The local Fox affiliate is running 2 tests this Thursday (6:53 a.m. and 5:23 p.m.) to help viewers in determining if their TVs are ready. If you see regular programming with a crawler, you're fine; if you see only a message on the screen saying something, you're not fine. If plegm and other humours begin to ooze from you're TV, you have a poltergeist.

oh the FF's radio performance from Saturday is streamable here: http://airplay.wnur.org/performances/. I think it turned out pretty well despite me breaking two strings and ben breaking his snare during our set.

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 10 November 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

Yay! I'm so glad you can take the tv and dvd player, Amanda! Also, good job cleaning up and throwing out crap. PAT ON BACK TO YOU.

My boss left for a loooong meeting this morning. :-D

KitCat, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:27 (seventeen years ago)

wow ben must have been amped

Jordan, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

ha ha, actually just the snares came off the bottom of the drum, but we couldn't find a screwdriver for him to reattach them, so he tried just duct-taping the snares back on, which didn't exactly work

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 10 November 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, that is the worst thing when it happens.

Jordan, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:33 (seventeen years ago)

It's important to learn from incidents like this one, so in the future Ben will be taking a backup drum set with us in the car to all our shows.

KitCat, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

.. or a screwdriver.

KitCat, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

or some coco pops to put inside the snare. (tip)

Mark G, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:37 (seventeen years ago)

or put a tambourine on top of the snare in a pinch.

Jordan, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

Tambourines are your answer to everything.

I applied for another position too, and the manager who almost-but-didn't-quite hire me said she'd put in a good word.

Vastly hilariouser and thus superior Laura Branigan song:

tit deep in abomination (Jenny), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 00:49 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa. I missed the lesbo implications in this video the first time around.

tit deep in abomination (Jenny), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

Huh. Laura Branigan is dead.

tit deep in abomination (Jenny), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

Probably from lesbo implications.

tit deep in abomination (Jenny), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

Wait. You have Flash on your computer now? !

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

Oh. "(2 hours ago)"

I guess you weren't at work at 7:22.

You really must find a way to get Flash installed on your work computer.

The best thing about that song is the guitar in the chorus wang-a-wanga-wang-wang.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 03:25 (seventeen years ago)

jordan (and anyone else who cares): stella is performing in chicago on fri. dec. 5. sarah and i already got tickets.

metametadata (n/a), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

oh interesting. where is it?

at rehearsal the other day we were reminiscing about michael ian black's last show here, where he had the crowd rolling for 10 minutes without saying a word. he was just using a hand to represent the motions of his anal sphincter after eating at a certain local taco place the year before.

Jordan, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

that sounds pretty funny

Jordan, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

it's at the vic, right by the belmont brown/red line stop

metametadata (n/a), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

how much were your tickets?

Jordan, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

From a deposition I just read:

Attorney: Did you have sex with __________?
Female witness: I don't know. I'd have to ask him.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

tickets are listed at $28 each but after charges they're more like $40, and that's for the ones where you print them out online

metametadata (n/a), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

thx. i asked my chicago bros if they want to go.

Jordan, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

Hi. I have to tell you guys (don't really have to) about a dream I had last night. Most importantly, Jordan was in it. Also, other random friends were there (sorry you guys, but you were random). Nick was there too.

Me to Jordan and random friends:
Have you guys seen that new tv show starring Seth Rogan... called like Sam's Life? or Sam's Day? Something like that...

Everyone: no, it looks dumb - isn't it that show that got all the hype for saying motherfucker for the first time on tv?

Me: yeah

Random friend: No, that was NWA on an mtv live show

Random friend: But that's not regular tv...

(discussion of swearing on tv goes on for a while)

Me: Well you should totally watch it.

Random folks: Um, no. Seth Rogan is annoying.

Nick: No, seriously, it's really funny. Like that episode, the motherfucker episode, it starts off with this really long intro full of sappy music about the history of pancakes. It really added alot of heart to the show.

THE END

KitCat, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

OR IS IT?

KitCat, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

haha.

"Pancakes Motherfucker" would be a good band/song name.

Jordan, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

Or a great name for a pancake house.

Eazy, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

Might lose some of the after-church crowd, though.

Eazy, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

I just discovered Chicago Fire fanfic... I just... ew.

Jordan, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:21 (seventeen years ago)

I love the video on that. When I am in the old folks' home, bring me photos and videos of people drinking malort.

Eazy, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:44 (seventeen years ago)

Man, I would pay the full 10 bucks to see a show at the MCA called Malort with wall-size photographs like those.

Eazy, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

It could be called something lofty like "Malört: Portraits of Revulsion," or, "Malört: A Malediction on the Palate."

Steppenwolf Theatre honors the life of Pulitzer Prize-winning author, broadcaster and activist Studs Terkel, who died on October 31, 2008 at age 96. Will the Circle Be Unbroken? is an unforgettable evening of song, story and celebration. Recognizable interviewees portrayed on stage include author Kurt Vonnegut, actress Uta Hagen and Chicago Reader theater critic and AIDS activist Justin Hayford. There are also everyday Chicagoans - parents, medics and teachers - who share wise words and meaningful memories. Hey there is a protest against Prop 8 at the Federal Plaza this Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 if anybody is interested. It's part of a nation-wide protest happening across the country at the same time. xoxo
