there's a slight diff between killing gus and gale - gus is surrounded by heavies and not even the cartel fucks w him. how in the world could walt and jesse even attempt it??

blow up his house w/magic crystals ala s1, stake out pollos i dunno, walt had access, gus didnt know he was onto him; granted the schedule was pretty tight

ice cr?m, Sunday, 4 July 2010 12:30 (sixteen years ago)

it doesn't really make any sense to me that he'd do that though...like...if he hadn't killed gale his life was worthless to gus or whoever followed up gus.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 4 July 2010 12:32 (sixteen years ago)

as mentioned the gus/walt relationship is now completely untenable, they basically have to kill gus, only difference from before is gus knows they know they have to kill him - i mean how long does it take to find a criminal chemist, thats how long walt has to act

ice cr?m, Sunday, 4 July 2010 12:46 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i defo agree for future survival, but gale had to go first, that was his priority. they can't miss a week's shipment gus said, so killing gale buys him at least a few days vs being shot in the head at the laundry there and then.;

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 4 July 2010 12:47 (sixteen years ago)

but be fore he had the drop on gus now gus is likely to do something rash - can he really just let walt go abt his workaday routine, what if he goes to the cops, what if he goes buck - while walt did you know 'avoid death' he didnt really solve any problems particularly

ice cr?m, Sunday, 4 July 2010 12:50 (sixteen years ago)

I thought he meant Gus at first, too. Assumed some ricin-based "now you come break bread at my gaff" antics.

stet, Sunday, 4 July 2010 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but like...dying would be worse than not dying, he totally didn't solve any probs but he managed to not be shot in the head, what else could he feasibly have done?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 4 July 2010 13:09 (sixteen years ago)

killed gus

ice cr?m, Sunday, 4 July 2010 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

gone to the cops

ice cr?m, Sunday, 4 July 2010 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

ran

Seriously doubt Gus would've fallen for this.

No, me either. He should have built a robot, rly

stet, Sunday, 4 July 2010 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

next time walt or jesse try to poison somebody, they should put it in rice. it's called "rice-in" and not "burrito-in" for a reason, yo.

Implied Nazarene (latebloomer), Sunday, 4 July 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

OK just finished season 3. Wheeeee that was fun. Was not entirely convinced that Jessie shot Gale until I read upthread

I also like the things that Victor, Gus' lackey wears. Check his jacket in the "Jessie has to shake the dealers' hands" scene. Dope

Also OMG the baby is sooooooooo cute! Did you all talk about it upthread? Best TV baby ever imo

when she touched walter's beard and took off his classes? great

is breads of india still tite (admrl), Saturday, 17 July 2010 21:57 (fifteen years ago)

hi i finally watched this too

it's very good

and VERY sopranos

in regards to the "what they should do now" thing, i really feel they are setting walt up to be the next gus, which maybe means he has to kill him. think about it - 1) vince gilligan has said the arc of the show is "mr chips to scarface," implying that walt will sort of become a drug lord and not just a cook 2) gus is the most like walt than any other character from that milieu 3) all the foreshadowing of getting wifey in the business etc

al-goreda (s1ocki), Sunday, 18 July 2010 04:09 (fifteen years ago)

This really can't keep going any longer than two more season imo

i'm gonna need a +1 so me & a friend can kick you in the balls (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 18 July 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

and VERY sopranos

I disagree. Sopranos is a lengthyt character study, BB is an extended crime thriller. Love both, but BB has so much more narrative momentum.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Sunday, 18 July 2010 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

BB's got plenty of character stuff tho

is breads of india still tite (admrl), Sunday, 18 July 2010 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

Of course, but it's driven by narrative whereas Sopranos is driven by character.

feel like bb is somewhat sopranos

ice cr?m, Sunday, 18 July 2010 23:17 (fifteen years ago)

I feel like every show which features marital tension post-Sopranos is somewhat Sopranos.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 19 July 2010 02:06 (fifteen years ago)

im not saying its exactly the same but BB is clearly pulling a lot of plays from the sopranos playbook. both are about family men doing morally dubious/reprehensible shit and yet the audience is still onboard, juggling life of crime with family, and the wifey stuff is REALLY similar

al-goreda (s1ocki), Monday, 19 July 2010 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

the main thing is this protagonist who the show keeps pushing further and further, dragging him more and more down, taking the audience along, playing with our sympathies & testing them

al-goreda (s1ocki), Monday, 19 July 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)

Very true. I pretty much thought i'd lost all sympathy for Walter after what happened to Jane but damned if i didn't find myself rooting for him again by the end of the third season.

Number None, Monday, 19 July 2010 13:26 (fifteen years ago)

haha fuck jane

two weeks pass...

A friend sent me this, pretty rad:

rad! been catching up on this show. so great. first season was a bit slow, but second and third masterful all the way. only thing disappointing was the lack of hank in the later 3.

it all reminds me a lot of the shield, rooting for a guy doing a lot of awful stuff, with every clever solution leading to a situation a lot worse than the one he was trying to get out of.

sonderangerbot, Friday, 6 August 2010 17:52 (fifteen years ago)

New interview with Cranston. Brief but some fun bits in there.

four months pass...

I don't know if it's possible to participate in this thread w/o having seen the most recent episodes and not stumble onto spoilers but I'm catching up on DVD and...I liked season 1, but halfway through season 2 I feel like this is getting so stupid and unrewarding I kinda want to just stop and never watch this show again. I never heard anything about it falling off, am I alone here? If not, does it get better?

otfm. also o_O at the fly catching episode.

That flickr of location shots listed upthread is A+ btw. Would totally do a self-guided BB location tour if I ever go to ABQ, which is incredibly unlikely.
