I've actually enjoyed this spell and I'm no sun-worshipper. I think it has a lot to do with Tube-less commutes, getting seats on trains and the radical decision to wear shorts to work. First time in seven years. I look no better than in 2003 but perhaps I care less.

^^^I can get behind this, although there's something about a certain quality of unbroken sunshine that pushes me into a deeply psychedelic childhood-retentive state where nothing can possibly be bad in the world

We got a break from the crushing heat with a relaxing hurricane... days and days of clouds and rain, love it.

fabulous today in Paris, 19C now, high of 28C today, blue sky, a little breeze. But it was hellish during the week: it hit 35C on Friday, and without air conditioning it becomes hard to think under those circumstances. And the trains are brutal when it's like that: even the good-looking people don't look good bathing in sweat (not to mention the stink). It'll be just under 30C for the high all week, which though a bit hotter than I'd like is still totally fine; over 30's where it gets rough. And yeah, compared to most of the places in the USA I've lived this is nothing, but in all those places we had air con & rode in cars rather than trains.

I was only complaining about the heat at night! During the day it's brilliant.

i remember how grim and tenacious last winter was => not one word of complaint about this weather, day or night, will be passing my lips

buy a fan and a mosquito net and you're sorted, anyway. and put bottles of water in the fridge to chill. and omg this amazing thing i did the other night - put my summer dressing gown in a plastic bag and shoved it in the freezer for a few hours - putting it on was BLISS~

also, ice cold showers, and i mean ICE COLD

I was happily roasting in Malta on press trip last week, with lovely dry 30C heat in the daytime and the benefits of AC at night. Coming back here to slightly cooler temperatures and lovely sun is pretty much an optimum way to be, especially when resorting to G&Ts made with this:

Euler, is there no AC in Parisian train cars? Our (Chicago) trains and buses are air conditioned. I've happened upon a train cars with broken AC and the ride was unbearable. I can't imagine that being the norm.

afaik there is no AC in Paris metros; in the RER a few trains have it but I've noticed lately those trains have been few & far between. I've been on 6 trains in Paris so far today & none had AC, though it's fine today; about 26C right now. But at 35C it was really awful, esp. on the RER A which is Europe's busiest line & (yay) part of my typical commute; typical trip looks like this:

Ugh, in Paris on Monday, hotel had no AC.

The subte in Buenos Aires doesn't have A/C, and in the summer it is brutal, especially during rush hour.

Kind of suprised I didnt post to this thread during that freak heatwave we had where we had 2 days of 45+ degrees and then a 48C (118F) day, and then half of victoria got flattened by fires.

I ran a shit ton of errands yesterday when it was 90F/32C and wouldn't you know, managed to catch a train with broken AC. Brutal.

it was 104 at BWI today and it's still 100. i wanna go do something like get groceries because i am bored & want to eat chicken but what if my flesh cooks when i go outside

being awake is really unpleasant at this temp but it is impossible to sleep how about that

we camped for 4th of July weekend, so like good responsible grownups we turned the AC off while we were gone. Not that I would do anything differently, but UGH last night was awful, I think the house has only just started to cool down now. Combination of ac/whole-house-fan/ceiling fans and we were sitting around sweating like pigs. These old un-insulated houses, goddamm do they suck up the heat. Crikey.

i'm afraid my window unit is gonna die while i sleep, leaving me to blanch in my own sweat until waking up... only to enter a conscious heat nightmare

East coast USA weather made the national news this morning. :( It sounds miserable out there!

Lake Shore Drive was closed for 8 hours the other day because the road was "buckling." That's the downside of a climate that follows several months of freeze with several months of extreme heat.

How humid is it out east? Yesterday in Chicago it was only 90 or so, but so humid it felt like wet death. So I went to the pool, which is what you do when it's really hot (hint to NYC).

Miserable. We have AC in bedroom and thankfully I work in a big cool office. But the time between leaving the bedroom in the AM and actually getting to work, is a time that my brain just shuts down and blocks out everything so I can go somewhere else in my mind.

i am basically just sitting here, sweating. why did i decide to drink hot coffee? it makes me not able to eat, too. just a parade of horribles
