Well, makeout stuff aside, this is the culmination of basically my best friend in Chicago's career to this point. Of course, until her Sm|thson|an show opens...

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:12 (twenty years ago)

You're not whining, Sarah! I totally understand. Last night I whined about not being able to afford new shoes to the point where Jeff actually told me to stop whining.

Shoooooooeeeeeeesssssss

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:14 (twenty years ago)

Best wishes to your friend, Dan! I hope it goes really well!

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:16 (twenty years ago)

My sandles look like crap! I hate them and their family! They are bulky and ugly and an insult to my sense of style. I've had them forever. I want something fun and comfortable and classy.

In other words, I agree. I also feel the need for new shoes.

Time to go floss again and leave. BYYYYEEEEEE!!!!!

(What's up Saturday, otto? a.k.a. who is our competition??)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:18 (twenty years ago)

How come the only apples that places like delis and 7-11s ever have are, like, Red Delicious and Granny Smith? Boo.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:28 (twenty years ago)

7-11s have apples?!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:30 (twenty years ago)

The one next to my office does.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

Mack Kelly's has good apples!

My dentist's office called on my way out the door. She's held up at an appointment at her other location, so they'd have to reschedule me an hour later. This means I'd start at 6:30 and it would be done about 2 hours later. The idea of hanging out downtown hungry for that long and having to wait an extra hour to get started freaked me out. Instead, I decided to wait several extra hours and do it a couple of weeks from now.
I=wuss

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:43 (twenty years ago)

(xp) Yes it does! But *moans* that's all the way across the river.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

It's no good to go to the dentist when you're all hungry. It's like how they tell you to eat before you get a tattoo - it's so you don't pass out (which has nearly happened to me once). So it wasn't wussy - it was very prudent. It's really hard to handle the stress and pain of the dentist with low blood sugar on top of bad nerves.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Hi. Has anyone ever been to 3lbo Room? What is it like? We have been offered a sketchy-sounding show there.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Haw, I just looked at their schedule of upcoming shows and decided to turn it down.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 4 May 2006 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, they're kinda lame.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 21:00 (twenty years ago)

It's like W1se Fools - there's nothing wrong with the room itself or its sound system, and once in a while there's something there. Not part of the indie scene, certainly. But you get your name on a marquee, and I'm trying to think if there's any other club that does that in town.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Holy fucking shit:

The Self-Similar Guns n' Roses Synth

Gn'R songs made up of tiny, sped-up Gn'R songs.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Happy Village Bar looks great! Why had I never been there? I walked in for just a second this afternoon, just to see what I was maybe missing, and the beer garden is endeed enchanting. Possibly even enchanted. They have a big gurgling rock fountain, and it's really quiet and chill out there.

Yes. We will be going to this place. Possibly often.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:16 (twenty years ago)

But you get your name on a marquee, and I'm trying to think if there's any other club that does that in town.

Subterranean, the Metro.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Besides, having your name on a marquee that will not attract or impress the crowd you're trying to attract or impress will do you no good.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:36 (twenty years ago)

But it still makes a good album cover.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 5 May 2006 00:38 (twenty years ago)

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 5 May 2006 03:33 (twenty years ago)

'We Were Set Up' would be a great church sign.

Eazy (Eazy), Friday, 5 May 2006 04:10 (twenty years ago)

I just realized that on a church sign, "Canasta" has a totally differnt meaning. Other options: "Tonight: Pinochle" and "Tonight: Bridge."

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 5 May 2006 04:17 (twenty years ago)

we once played a show which, for some reason or other, we couldn't promote (probably since it was too close to a bigger, more important show) under the name CONTRACT BRIDGE.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 04:20 (twenty years ago)

Bridge is so much more complicated than Canasta. Bridge is a hobby; Canasta is just a game.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 5 May 2006 04:30 (twenty years ago)

OH. MY. GOD. AM. I. EVER. CHAFFED.

WAIT.ER. CROTCH.

SWAMP. ASS.

I can bareley walk.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 5 May 2006 04:33 (twenty years ago)

I can bareley spell.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 5 May 2006 04:45 (twenty years ago)

Hi, guys. My teeth are still cavityified. Do you still love me?

I hope your crotch is dry by now Jesse. Did you spill something on it?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:12 (twenty years ago)

I have chunky thighs that touch when I walk. During summer I get terribly chaffed. It's a story as old as time.

I should not have had a problem yesterday, the temp being low as it was, but the A/C in the restaurant is fucked. We have to call the engineers' office to change it, but this summer it makes no difference when we do. It's HOT.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:36 (twenty years ago)

I just dropped the cat off to get her cunt worked on.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm waiting for a tow truck.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:11 (twenty years ago)

(Before anyone yells at me, I went to Just Tires last night to see if I could purchase a spare tire, and they said it would be a few days before they'd have one in. So I just decided to have it towed and not worry about it. I'm still going to buy the spare tire, though.)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:13 (twenty years ago)

OHHHHH MY GGGGGOOOOOOOODDDDD, JOOOOOHHHHNNNNNN!!!!!!

j/k
I'm glad you're getting it taken care of right away.

There's only one other person at work so far today.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Jesse, I have same problem -- try wearing bike shorts or cut-off nylons under yr clothes? Believe me, it's worse in skirts; there's an ongoing debate among my grill friends about whether it's better to try to dry things off with baby powder or just go with the humidity and use extra lotion.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm going back to bed for a while.

Jenny, if you're out there, thanks for the car. The car made that terrifying BEEP! that meant that gas is low. I'm going to put some in. I wish it would be a little gentler and subtler in its alerting me.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:20 (twenty years ago)

POWDER.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:20 (twenty years ago)

But then you start sweating and the powder gets used up and goes away (where? I dunno) and you're sticky again! Or do you reapply between entree and dessert orders?

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I feel sick and my face is still all broken out from traveling/sweating/stress (which always happens to me, but which is still bullshit).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

morning chicago. i think i found leaf & i an apartment in beijing!

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:41 (twenty years ago)

congrats kelsey! that sounds so exciting. what is leaf doing in beijing anyway? what are you going to be doing while you're there?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Cool, Kelsey! Are there pix online?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:47 (twenty years ago)

xp - should i already know this? if so, i apologize for forgetting. i'm starting to think that maybe i should write things down more.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:48 (twenty years ago)

awesome, i forgot to pay my gas bill with people's energy last month and realized it was due wednesday. not wanting a late payment to appear on my credit report i just logged on to try to pay it. turns out i have a credit of $71 on my account. THANKS $100 CREDIT!!!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Where did the credit come from? You just overpaid previously? I love it when that happens. I got a $50 check a couple of weeks ago for overpaying a hospital fee that had been sent to a debt collector.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:11 (twenty years ago)

1. Jordan, my face breaks out when I travel, too. It's like the strange water confuses my face.

2. Some douche company makes anti-chafe lotion. Try that, Jesse. I'll buy it for you if you're scared to by douche company lotion marketed to women with fat thighs. Also, does wearing boxer briefs (the long tighty whiteys) help at all?

3. Whoa, hey, yeah, what are you guys doing in China? How long?

4. The credit is a settlement from some sort of suit against the gas company for overcharging people. Everybody who has an account with People's Energy got $100. That will get us through the next four months!

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Or I think it was a settlement. Maybe they felt bad about all the impoverished old people who froze to death because they turned off their gas for nonpayment. But it was something like that.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:17 (twenty years ago)

yeah, between the fact that i don't cook and my apartment has no heat i'm golden!!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Leaf's going b/c it's a new program with his school. I'm going b/c I'm inbetween jobs & got $$ from my grandpa when he passed away. I need to figure out what I'm going to "do" while there . .. I'll probably try & work under the table teaching or something. Ideally, I'd like to take or audit language classes so I can brush up, but I don't know how feasible that is.

We leave May 23 & come back July 3. If anyone wants anything, let me know!! It's cheaper there!
