watching the episode, the joke was basically that this guy was a C-level celebrity at best who was big news in a backwater town. I figured there were two possible options:
a) They brought in some esoteric, also-ran sports figure with a dumb name to play himselfb) They invented some esoteric, also-ran sports figure with a dumb name to play himself
B seemed cheaper and therefore more logical.
