btw i thought the 2nd episode was funnier and, uh, closer to the real soul of 30 rock than the 1st, hopefully signalling that the show's gonna slide back into its groove after some early season ratings pandering

xpost i don't like that dude

The M Night Shamalyan thing slayed me!

Not the real Village People, Sunday, 9 November 2008 20:20 (seventeen years ago)

that was pretty awesome!

I thought the second episode was corporate-soulless compared to the first ep/that awesome run of episodes last season. Lot of lols, but of the empty, spasmodic kind.

I wouldn't blame Jane K. for her annoying character on Ally McBeal, that was all on DEK. Anyway, Dratch couldn't possibly evoke JK's SEX-uality.

Leee, Sunday, 9 November 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I agree with this. I keep waiting for 30 Rock to start pandering to a larger audience and lose the qualities that make it so great. Hasn't happened yet, but every once in a while an episode will hint at that shift in direction. The show is fighting for its life, so it must be a constant temptation.

Super Cub, Sunday, 9 November 2008 21:14 (seventeen years ago)

Less Kenneth would be fine.

Kenneth was hilarious in the lift.
"You'll have to choke me with my belt, I'll fight you, it's only natural..."

fat penne (Ned Trifle II), Sunday, 9 November 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

Kenneth can be damn funny, but only in limited doses. Use him too much and the schtick gets stale.

Explain the corporate soulless thing, someone. It was as crazy as any 30 Rock episode - faked Olympic events, Liz hallucinating Oprah. The only thing that's hinted at corporate soulless to me at all is the plugging of Bee Movie in the Seinfeld ep.

Jouster, Monday, 10 November 2008 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

I don't get it either. Some eps are funnier than others, but nothing about 30 Rock screams "normal sitcom" to me.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 November 2008 00:31 (seventeen years ago)

i luvd this ep btw

Maybe it just gave me bad White Chicks flashbacks.

Sundar, Monday, 10 November 2008 01:18 (seventeen years ago)

it was totally White Chicks! Which btw is one of the most underrated movies in all history.

this show is pretty remarkably consistent. i agree they could use kenneth less though.

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 10 November 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

I love all the characters. They should have more of all of them.

caek, Monday, 10 November 2008 07:26 (seventeen years ago)

Liked it but it needs to hit it's pre strike stride, glad they reset the situation, the whole don geiss coma and related storylines got old quick.

Hoping that we get some Dennis and Dr Spaceman storylines soon.

Spritz con Bitter (Ed), Monday, 10 November 2008 09:56 (seventeen years ago)

OMG I just saw Dennis in the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Along with Penny from Lost and Shirley Manson!! He was basically the same.

I liked this episode and the last one well enough. Usually LOVE 30 Rock though. Feel it's yet to hit its stride since the break. I don't get the idea that there's been some corporate/soulless change in direction or anything. It's still the same as its ever been as far as plot and characterisation is going, just the material is a little weaker. Still, more memorable and roflworthy lines in a sub-par episode of 30 Rock than in 99% of comedy shows.

I wonder what Richard Moll had going on that was so important he couldn't make it on board for this episode. Were his terms really that non-negotiable?

Aniston was easily the best part of this episode, and I find that really weird.
