Can anyone explain the Two Americas one? I don't recall Edwards trying to get attention in a washroom.
― abanana, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 23:37 (seventeen years ago)
When the Republicans are involved in some sort of scandal, the librul media is all over them, like Larry Craig in an airport bathroom. When the Enquirer reports on Democrat Party member John Edwards, the media is silent.
Thus, lol.
― en i see kay, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 23:44 (seventeen years ago)
With the exception of Fox News, who have independently verified many of the Enquirer’s claims (that Edwards was in the Beverly Hilton room and that when the reporters jumped him as he was leaving he took refuge in a men's lavatory), none of the major news organisations has touched the story. What is more surprising is that even the political blogosphere, which would normally be all over such a tale, has shied away.

straight scandals = teh boring gay scandals, featuring ridiculously closeted vocal anti-gay politicians = teh better
― kingfish, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)
So he was being chased by reporters and took refuge in a restroom stall, yet reporters the media were not all over him?
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)
Also, that's a really poor rendition of Larry Craig.

― max, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)
You know, the press is still a free press, in the sense that it's ruled by the almighty capitalistic dollar. The press has no agenda other than to make fat fucking wads of green cash dollars, the same fat fucking wads of green cash dollars that Republicons seem to enjoy so much.

"PEDAPHILE" vs. "PEDIFILE" poll plz
Actually that whole cartoon needs a poll for the most batshit insane thing in it. I really, really hope that dude's campaign slogan is "HEY SATAN, NOT WITH BRENT AROUND YOU WON'T." I would get that on a t-shirt.

ok possibly obvious question: what's the metaphorical value of barack on the phone to the terrorists*? given that, presumably, neither the creators nor the audience think BO is actually on any self-respecting mujahedin's buddy list ...
* in the same way that we understand that george w. bush is not really an asterisk with a legionnaire's helmet. or a nazi.
― thomp, Thursday, 31 July 2008 13:57 (seventeen years ago)
given that, presumably, neither the creators nor the audience think BO is actually on any self-respecting mujahedin's buddy list
I think this is wrong. I think the creators, or at least enough of the audience, do believe this.
I spent a few days while in Italy talking to an American who was 100% sure that Obama was a Muslim. He wasn't totally sure Obama was in bed with Muslim terrorism (he was still trying to work that out), but was sure that in a fight between the United States and the Islam, Obama would obviously back teh Islam. No joke.

On basic principle, I'm totally with them. The New Yorker cartoon was funny, and everyone's being hysterical. (I bought that issue for the cover. I'm seriously thinking of framing it for the bathroom.) I also kind of agree with the second amendment one, where there's a pop gun, and the liberal stand-in is acting like it's the end of the world. ON THE OTHER FUCKING HAND! The extent to which any of these asshats will defend the New Yorker is the same extent to which they will defend the right to shoot in cold blood someone who is on your property after dark. Which is to say, those kind of rights stop at the end of their noses, and your nose be damned. Also, the liberal strawman in that gun law cartoon (strawmen belong in cartoons, I'm not saying they don't) is some kind of bizarre stereotype of a homosexual San Diegoan beachcomber circa 1977. In a pink shirt, in case the faggot factor was not already turned up loudly enough for ya.

junebugmom says:
Where does McCoy get this stuff? From Obama’s own voting record. He opposed the Born-Alive Infants’ Protection Act, legislation intended to confer upon botched-abortion surviving babies the same legal protection afforded to prematurely born babies. This comic is no more reprehensible than late-term abortion procedures, and it is simply not possible to have a rational conversation with any person incapable of recognizing infanticide.
