NO OFFENSE PENISES!

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

haha

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

Dudes - do any of you use "ditty bags" or whatever the man term is for make up bags? If so, what is the best style? My dad wants me to make him one for his birthday & I think I'm going to have to invent the pattern . . .

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

Shaving Kit.

Dark colors are nice.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

I thought I would definitely use a dark color . . . but what kind of fabric? Corduroy seems nice but then it also tends to pick up bits of lint & string. Do I need to vinyl-ize a cotton?

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm. Is that a box shape? Which view is the top?

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

I think the zipper is on the top.

I'm guessing you don't want to use leather or snakeskin, but these are nice.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

I like that shape, for sure.

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

And the little medallion as a centerpiece is nice. That's the standard shape of a shaving kit, I think. Cordouroy sounds good.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

I think I would maybe make some kind of patch with dad's initials on it or something.

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Just a suggestion -- you might want to use a material that can stand a little moisture, since most dudes are not going to be too meticulous about drying stuff off before tossing it in the case. High leakage potential.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

otm

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

I call it a dop kit and I've had the same nasty plastic one for years.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

a dope dop kit

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I call it a dop kit also. Don't know what that means.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

Do we have any other B0nde Do Role fans up in here?

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dopp_kit

The name derives from early 20th century leather craftsman Charles Doppelt.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

i also call it a dopp kit

sarah i am not a fan (don't know them) but i think i'm going to the show on friday?

river wolf, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

I've never heard of dopp kits, either the name or the thing itself!

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

From that Wikipedia page, they seem v. useful.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

I used to have a black plastic toiletry bag emblazoned with the logo of my high school's production of Guys and Dolls, but it got kind of gross and I threw it out a few years ago.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

I use a vinyl one for my glasses and contact-lens case when traveling.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

It looked kind of like this, except with GUYS AND DOLLS in silver:

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

I've owned one for thirteen years, but never called it anything but a shaving kit. Never heard Dopp Kit before.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

I only use mine when traveling as well.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

i always thought it was a Doc Kit, because mine looks like an ol timey doctors bag but i am an idiot, so.

also, n/a i was just horsing around in the lazy zing thread, i didn't mean you were being self-righteous, for reals, so sorry if i offended.

Mr. Que, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

Goddamn, that lazy zing thread. It's a cancer.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

^^^^reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUsi_SD6PEE

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

^^love that one. It might have been the one that got Maddie hooked in KitH, I think.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Que, it's cool, I know you were just joking around in the spirit of the thread. I was just using your quote to try (unsuccessfully) to deflect the criticism I knew was coming for me trying to steer the thread back on track. But whatever. I'm not reading that thread any more, or at least not today. Actually I was going to take an ILX break but decided to just stick to the Chicago thread.

One thing I love about that sketch is how obvious it is that it came out of improvisation.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

I'm a sucker for the sketches that are basically about Bruce McCullough being weird, like all the Gavin sketches.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

All I'm doing now is watching Kids in the Hall.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

I remember some KitH thing that was kind of an MTV parody, it was about a new dance or style or something...it was probably the most dated thing they ever did, but awesomely so.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

All I ever do is watch Kids in the Hall.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

youtube doesn't seem to have the monkey room one

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

Goddamn, that lazy zing thread. It's a cancer.

srsly, but it's like lung cancer. It's my own damn fault for having it. :(

Regrets, I've had a few.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)
