AESTHOLE (jjjusten), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 05:39 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think i like folders. i'll probably change my mind, but right now Swipe-See-Tap seems more intuitive then Remember-Tap-Tap.

yeah i only have three pages of appz anyway

stet i feel you on the switcheroo with rejecting/accepting spelling suggestions but i prefer this way i.e. the default being to keep your spelling, why cause i am usually kerrect rite

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:10 (sixteen years ago)

this is worth it just for the new way your home screen snaps back into view - feels tight and nifty

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:11 (sixteen years ago)

xp aye, the other method is some microsoft "os thinks it knows better than you" bullshit.

sent from my neural lace (ledge), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:13 (sixteen years ago)

i haven't checked if this is fixed yet but one thing i fucking HATE is that you can turn OFF autocapitalization but if you have autocorrect turned on it will capitalize the word "I" (and others) - wtf!!!! stab stab stab

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:43 (sixteen years ago)

yeah hate typing "china" & other proper nouns w/ autocorrect on and autocap off - also they should realize that autocap should never be turned off for entering contact names unless you are making contacts with people who had very liberal parents and give them all lowercase names

crüt it out (dyao), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:48 (sixteen years ago)

argh mine still does the autoreplace

crüt it out (dyao), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:00 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i can't figure out how spellcheck and autocorrect interact

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:03 (sixteen years ago)

hah stet are you gonna change the zing icon?

crüt it out (dyao), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:11 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, was working on a new one last night.

stet, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:15 (sixteen years ago)

why don't apple add a mac section to the itunes app store?

too much vuvuzela dangle (cozen), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:42 (sixteen years ago)

The one problem I'm having is my gmail account, which I have set up as an exchange account. It just isn't working, won't connect. Setting it up just as a webmail account works fine.

Jeff, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 12:10 (sixteen years ago)

how the hell in this day and age, when i receive notifications frome every single little stupid app, can gmail not support push?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 12:49 (sixteen years ago)

I think they're having some local problems and expect push to be back soon (how now is soon tho I wonder?).

GamalielRatsey, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 13:11 (sixteen years ago)

phew my phone works

only took MORE THAN SIX HOURS

at least I know to stop using that "compact my songs" option to squeeze more music onto my phone

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

the upside is that now you can hear all your songs at their full length

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 13:39 (sixteen years ago)

I swear, if I have similar problems with iPhone 4 I will get violent

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

Update took me 30 minutes this morning over breakfast.

Captain Ostensible (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

Dan, last night:

Yeah, there's no "I" in centipede... oh wait, yes there is. (Pancakes Hackman), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

Took a few hours to back up and install everything, but pleasantly surprised that my 3G actually runs a lot more smoothly now. Guessing in restoring during the update it managed to sort itself out. So much so I reckon I can happily wait til next year to upgrade to 4 now.

Although I put everything in to folders and am now sad I can't habitually flick through 8 pages of apps. Think thats the main reason I like this phone tbh.

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

the camera is faster now

156, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 20:14 (sixteen years ago)

Podcasts were acting weird for me today. iTunes syncing duplicate episodes over to the phone, which was then failing to show time elapsed during playback, all sorts of oddness.

JimD, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 08:53 (sixteen years ago)

3G feels much slowere and even more responsive than before right now. screw this

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 09:08 (sixteen years ago)

tesco pricing is attractive hmmm

too much vuvuzela dangle (cozen), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 11:48 (sixteen years ago)

12 months @ £20 w/£350 for the phone = about £100 more over the year than you'd pay for an unlocked phone

xxp even less, jeez

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 12:52 (sixteen years ago)

so engadget managed to get 38 hours out of this thing between charges?

crüt it out (dyao), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 12:55 (sixteen years ago)

Syncing my new phone now! This has been easier so far than upgrading my 3g.

schwantz, Thursday, 24 June 2010 00:32 (sixteen years ago)

Talk about the aerials on the 4 shorting out when you hold it and it losing all signal.

stet, Thursday, 24 June 2010 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

3G feels much slowere and even more responsive than before right now. screw this

do you mean less responsive? confused. not sure whether we should bother upgrading my wife's 3g; she's due an upgrade anyway.

akm, Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:03 (sixteen years ago)

Engadget is now reporting, however, that several scratches have been discovered on the back of its review unit after only five days of use.

The photo you're seeing above is our leader Joshua's iPhone 4 review unit, snapped by Ryan Block just moments ago. Ryan pointed out that there are some nasty scratches on the back of the phone. While we don't have any better photos of it at the moment, Josh told us that they're hard to see unless in bright light, but they look pretty notable to us for a five day-old unit made of Gorilla Glass.

apple news coverage is really a world of its own, isn't it.

crüt it out (dyao), Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:08 (sixteen years ago)

well they DO look pretty NOTABLE for GORILLA GLASS

i mean i am just SAYING

flapjackin (gbx), Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:28 (sixteen years ago)

BREAKING!

So far, no yellow spots, and my hand doesn't seem to cause any de-sense. Maybe I'm not sweaty enough. My one FaceTime call was actually kind-of cool.

schwantz, Thursday, 24 June 2010 03:00 (sixteen years ago)

For UKers, vodafone are taking orders online now, just got one for delivery tomorrow...let's see whether that happens.

lots of talk about this and some p.worrying videos; has there been any update? could it be a software issue?

hi bianca :x (cozen), Thursday, 24 June 2010 08:53 (sixteen years ago)

that's what you get for doing all ur testing using those silly cases I guess

hi bianca :x (cozen), Thursday, 24 June 2010 08:54 (sixteen years ago)

they were queuing outside hammersmith 02 shop this morning. and all the staff were in sainsburys in their apple iphone 4 branded tshirts.

apparently having a bumper stops this from happening?

knocking u out like rocky balboa (sunny successor), Thursday, 24 June 2010 22:29 (sixteen years ago)

It does!

Opinions are a lot like assholes. You've got LOTS of BOTH of them. (HI DERE), Thursday, 24 June 2010 22:29 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, tried one today and it definitely happens, and goes away when you insulate the aerial. They should give away the bumpers, or this will turn into a massive whingefest by Monday.

stet, Thursday, 24 June 2010 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

iPhone 4 waiting or me when I got home, this screen is fucking awesome, shame I'm still waiting for my activation to go through. Playing with it on wifi.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 24 June 2010 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

Couldn't do the line today. Several thousand people in it, upwards of a five hour wait, even for reserved. I'll have to wait a few weeks.

Jeff, Thursday, 24 June 2010 23:56 (sixteen years ago)

These lines are totally about publicity, aren't they? Absolutely nothing to stop them being better organized.

stet, Thursday, 24 June 2010 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

Yup, free column inches will be massive tomorrow. To be fair though it doesn't so apple any favours to build too much stock in advance, inventory costs money to hold.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Friday, 25 June 2010 00:04 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, but they could at least have organised it better for the pre-orders, with collection slots or similar. Having people waiting five hours when they'd reserved in advance is a bit much.

MacRumors forum user samcraig emailed Steve Jobs about the low signal issue while holding the new iPhone 4 in a specific way. The potential issue has been generating a lot of discussion. Samcraig emailed Steve Jobs:
Question - What's going to be done about the signal dropping issue. Is it software or hardware?

To which, Jobs replied with a typically short response:
Non issue. Just avoid holding it in that way.

In a followup email, Jobs then expanded with this explanation:
Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

Steve Jobs has been known to respond to emails and we were able to log into Samcraig's email account to verify the authenticity of the emails, so we believe these are real.

lol steve jobs

I should post this here, too. Dan Harmon from "Community" spent like all yesterday playing with his new iphone and posting the results to twitter:
