too effing hot

I had one ceiling fan, one floor fan and two window fans operating yesterday. Was able to do some aerodynamics research as a result.

yeah, even here in the uk a train with no AC is a huge nightmare on hot days.

last year i visited new york on one of its hottest weeks, the ac in the taxis and subways was tremendous.

nyc 11:04am 85 degrees

Today was comfortably the hottest day of the year so far in Cambridge UK, just been playing a bit of lethargic parks football, even with shirts off it was almost untenable.

its gonna hit 100 here tomorrow

One of my co-workers complained today that he was "too cold", on what's been probably the hottest workday of the year so far.

This is after complaining most of the winter than he was "too hot" because of our office's climate-control air conditioning.

I'm not having alcohol until autumn. Hell, we even put the brita in the fridge...it's that hot!

95 yesterday...a couple of degrees cooler predicted today, and then a storm front and upper 80s tomorrow and Wednesday. I won't complain yet because I know it's going to get a lot worse. I dread my next utility bill.

girlfriend took me to bed bath and beyond to buy me a/c and all the stuff she needs to stay at my house all summer.

Woke up in 72 degree apt with french pressed coffee ^_^

I'm gonna buy one of those portable ones so I don't have to permanently block a window and can move between two rooms. Prices have come down on those.

I had to sleep pretty much all day yesterday in Oxford because it got up above 20 °C. I go to NYC and Providence for work from August 1-14. I'm going to die, aren't I?

it all depends.. i remember july last summer being pretty awful, too.

so seriously -- the window/wall unit question... can anyone help? will i set my house on fire or something if i get the window unit and put it in the wall space? there are bars on my windows so i can't just put one in the window.

aren't there laws? Your landlord should be able to replace the bars with the kind that fit an AC.

I'm sure there's some good reason why people don't just put AC units in the middle of apartments. They need to vent.

well we have one of those holes under the window specifically for an air conditioner so i doubt she'd be willing to alter the bars... this is the kind of landlady who recently got taken to a courttv show over a security deposit!

i am just thinking, there's no way that everyone with one of those holes under their windows is spending $$$$$$ on their a/c.

was at a friends house last nite who had a window unit in the wall slot seemed fine

OH when you said wallspace I thought you meant like an internal wall. I thought those Fedders holes under windows were FOR window units?

the guy at p.c. richards said i couldn't put a window unit in the wall slot bc the air intake is different... but the only wall units they had there were like $500. so i wasn't sure if you really can't do it or if he was trying to upsell.

You could spend some extra $$ and buy a portable a/c. I was just looking online and 299 seemed the cheapest price.
