i had 'it's business time' in my head pretty much all last week oh and i sang it out loud a few times in front of friends. and then tried to explain the show. lols
my gf has admitted to me that sometimes when I initiate, she hears "business time" in her head. So far, this has not damaged our relationship, but only because of my assumption that this will go away.

― kenan, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)
I have never seen the HBO show but I spent a lot of this morning watching FotC concert clips on YouTube. My favorite one is the one about "issues." Then at lunch today I went to this record store near my work, and as I was leaving a dad and his teenage son were walking in, and the son was singing "There are people on the street having sex with monkeys." It was weird.

get these cutleries out my knees
It's a phenomenon all of a sudden. It's a funny, funny show. You can see whole episodes on youtube.
― kenan, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)
The performances in that HBO special they did are so much funnier than in the show! I probably said this upthread: on the show they kinda step on the punchlines. Still great, but ... yeah.
Bret's player was amazingly well-cast.
― nabisco, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
on the show they kinda step on the punchlines.
Sometimes, sometimes not. "She's So Hot (Boom)" is much funnier on the show. "Business Time" is much better live. I did not need to see Jemaine naked, thanks.
― kenan, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)
the hbo special is funny in a slightly different way - a bit more true to life i guess - the show is more about the 'bret' and 'jemaine' (and mel and murray) weirdo oblivious-to-(some of)-the-ways-of-the-world personas. i like both kinds of performances. i'm still a bit surprised the show even exists.
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)
And the visual references on the show are great! The french pop video, for a great example. Or the Chungking Express street shots in "Inner City Pressure".
― kenan, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:13 (eighteen years ago)
nabisco, you are wrong, guy.
― chaki, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)
I'm surprised anyone disagrees! Stuff like "Issues" and "Business Time" seemed much funnier when they had time and space to let the jokes breathe a little. Some of them disappear entirely, like fork-knees saying "Aaa-aaaa-aargh."
― nabisco, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)
But there are no great moments in performance specials where Bret fends off date rape, so...
i have no idea how you think the songs dont breathe in the sitcom setting. the songs are slowed down dramatically in the show just for that reason.
― chaki, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)
Apparently I am receiving a different broadcast :(

There is one where she puts glasses on her dog Jemaine, and it's mindblowingly cute. I mean, a dog, wearing glasses.
― nabisco, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)
Cuter than this, even:

― CaptainLorax, Saturday, 11 August 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)
The best bit was the rest! "Watership Down, man, women love that story". I love Arj Barker, he's awesome.

I fear my wife could leave me for Jermaine given the chance =''(
― admrl, Sunday, 12 August 2007 00:51 (eighteen years ago)
I like to think I'm the cute one without glasses. Girls would wake me up in the night begging for sex. And I would be like 'in 3 years I'll be ready' lol
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 12 August 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)
interview thing with kristen schaal (mel) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNAH5hJ0dwk - hahaha, she is great interviews with others linked on that page too (haven't watched them yet tho)

Arj needs to be on this show more. He's like the comedian's Dave Grohl, I have the hots for him something fierce.

I love this show.

NJUWWPT episode was hilarious but disappointing. When they went to black n white in the car I was certain they were going to do a we're-on-tour themed song, but then nothing. I did like the line about the mermaids smoking seaweed at their parties though.
The best thing about this show though really is Bret's sweaters.
― nickalicious, Sunday, 19 August 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)
"The best thing about this show though really is Bret's sweaters"
I was just thinking that his sweaters/sweatshirts are the most doggedly unaesthetic bits of clothing I've ever seen.
