Tbere's another screening of it in December, and the Met will (or may already be) streaming the opera on its site.

Eazy, Friday, 7 November 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)

is this the new production of it i was reading about in the NYer that's more minimal (ie less crazy set design)? they didn't give it a particularly positive review in comparison to the original production

metametadata (n/a), Friday, 7 November 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

The first production was directed by Peter Sellars, who is pretty much one of the best directors on Earth. (That version is available on DVD, and is the one that the Lyric produced last spring). The current one is more of a concert staging, with some multimedia bells and whistles as well.

Eazy, Friday, 7 November 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

netflix doesn't have the dvd :/

metametadata (n/a), Friday, 7 November 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

eazy, are you talking about this documentary on it? or is the whole play available on dvd too?

Jordan, Friday, 7 November 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

This one here (includes a 90-second clip). I didn't know about that doc -- I wanna see that.

role models was not amazing but good, had some laughs. then we came home and watched stella for more 'the state' veteran action and that show is hilarious. ran into courtney and tim at the davis. they were going to see w.

metametadata (n/a), Saturday, 8 November 2008 04:02 (seventeen years ago)

metametadata (n/a), Saturday, 8 November 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

I love this picture. A friend took it somewhere in Andalucia.

Although I guess it's not so great since these are only a handful of hundreds of hungry strays.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Saturday, 8 November 2008 04:37 (seventeen years ago)

I saw this Eric Bogosian play Red Angel tonight and would highly recommend it (it runs tomorrow and Sunday). Main guy reminded me of jaymc. Very good two-people-in-a-room show.

Eazy, Saturday, 8 November 2008 05:08 (seventeen years ago)

Finally saw "Happy-Go-Lucky" earlier today and it was pretty amazing, best mike leigh for me since at least topsy turvy. Kind of was really life affirming.

I should see more movies at the davis, but they never seem to have much good playing there. Thing it's where I saw "the dark knight" though.

askance johnson, Saturday, 8 November 2008 05:59 (seventeen years ago)

Good to hear about HGL -- will try to catch that next week, maybe.

jaymc, Saturday, 8 November 2008 06:09 (seventeen years ago)

I ate so much Korean bbq tonight.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Saturday, 8 November 2008 07:40 (seventeen years ago)

To a Korean bbq place up north on Western.

but if you get there before 6, tickets are $5.50 so it's ok to go see something mediocre

metametadata (n/a), Saturday, 8 November 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

The last time I was at the Davis, a few years ago, I was seeing one of those movies where the opening credits are flushed alternately to the left margin and the right margin, and the whole thing was cut off. AD PITT...DON CHEAD...EAN'S 12...

Eazy, Saturday, 8 November 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

i want to make a clever joke about what you were watching being something else but im not clever enough

Because it's a snow machine (deej), Saturday, 8 November 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

guess I should go to davis to see random movies during the day...though sometimes I think I'd rather travel and pay a little more to see what I really want to see (assuming there is something I really want to see somewhere). Actually think I want to go see Lola Montes at the music box next week. Apparently it is the best movie ever or something.

askance johnson, Saturday, 8 November 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

Can I use you guys for a reference for this?

karaoke was fun
some bitch asked us a dumb question "because [we're] older"
her name is NINA and she can fuck right off
also i sang "since you've been gone" by rainbow - i don't recall anyone ever singing that song at the HC. i didn't even know it was there. and yes i did hit the key change.

and yes the sisters were there.

La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 13:47 (seventeen years ago)

it looks like this, if we were to play madden on our tv:

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 10 November 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

dag
that's a nice tv

La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 14:21 (seventeen years ago)

Sarah, you would be proud of me. I went on a cleaning binge yesterday and got rid of my horrible, embarrassing Pile of Teacher Junk in the corner of our office room.

La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

i'm guessing no one wants our old tv? it's a good size (19-inch) and works great but it's old school so if anyone wants to use it past february they would need one of those digital signal converter box thingies. we also have a dvd player to give away if anyone needs it (we had to buy a new dvd player because our old one wouldn't work with our new tv apparently)

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 10 November 2008 14:37 (seventeen years ago)

can i accept it as a donation for my school?

La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

(i mean if no one else wants it)

La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 14:43 (seventeen years ago)

sure! do you want the tv and the dvd player?

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 10 November 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

some bitch asked us a dumb question "because [we're] older"

haha, what was the question?

Jordan, Monday, 10 November 2008 15:01 (seventeen years ago)

which version of "gloria" was the one by laura branigan

i mean, i can think of three different songs with the name "gloria" but i don't think she knew that because she is but a cub of...wait for it...25.

La Lechera, Monday, 10 November 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

ps i also knew this information and could have answered her question when i was 25 but that's just because i am awesome
