yeah it's a bit of a hike i would happily run shuttle from davis but we can also pick something more central.

also you raise a good point in that highland kitchen is not particularly good for veg

Though Tremendoid, assuming the Lakers win, I will proceed to trash talk the entire time I'm visiting, even though this will mean I'll be brutally killed by having a bunch of Dunkin' Donuts forced down my throat. I hope you're happy.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

another option would be East Coast Grill in Inman with their Martini From Hell (made with scotch bonnet-infused Absolut)

the last time I was there, our server wouldn't let me order it ;_; but I did get a shot of the vodka ^_^ and it was WAU HOT O_O

yes I often pick restaurants based on stupid things they do with spicy alcohol, why do you ask

am willing to tr anywhere that's at least somewhat veggie friendly.

RIP Redbones ;_;

as a California-gourmand for the past 2 decades, I highly recommend you take the Nedster out for any of the amazing (and cheap) seafood that Boston is known for: blue fin tuna, prawns, scallops, long-neck clams, lobster is honestly world-class...

i have a friend who runs a "gourmet cocktail" bar in that area across the river from downtown (sorry i'm horrible with boston geography), kinda pricy but they specialize in artisianal, crafted cocktails (ymmv with this lol), lmk if you're interested in it. she's rated one of the best in the biz, she tended the bar for the 2009 james beard awards for example.

You must be talking about Drink?

I have been meaning to go to Drink for the better part of a year! A friend of mine who arranges parties for classical musicians is in love with that place.

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

also Davis Square + seafood = Out of the Blue, which I have never been to or actually ever knowingly seen

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, Drink is amazing. I think that area is called Fort Charles. I am down for seafood but the only place I'm ever able to think of is Legal's which seems crappy because it's a chain even though it's actually excellent.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

I hope you're happy.

i dont ask for much

edd|e house is not a homie (tremendoid), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:47 (sixteen years ago)

I feel like all the really good seafood places are outside of the city. Anyone have any suggestions of one closer that they've actually tried?

Steve Shasta making things complicated. ;p That's cool that your friend owns Drink. It's a pretty neat concept. Isn't there a sister place in NY or something?

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

i've been to drink a few times now--it's rad

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

i mean i would be happy to fap there, on a wednesday, with you guys

a point the boston globe's restaurant critic made recently--most of our restaurants have good seafood dishes, but we are mad short on excellent, actual seafood restaurants

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:51 (sixteen years ago)

This place treated me well but may be on the higher end pricewise? http://www.neptuneoyster.com/

On the cheaper end, we hit a place in chinatown for seafood dimsum and it was insanely great and very affordable.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:51 (sixteen years ago)

i meant to go to neptune all last summer and never did ;_;

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

But they don't do food - what food places are in that area? is it near the barking crab? That's seafood and kind of fun! Maybe you guys don't like seafood anyway.

Do you remember what the Dim Sum place was called? That could be fun! Also, I wouldn't have to drive.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:53 (sixteen years ago)

lol I was about to suggest Barking Crab

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:54 (sixteen years ago)

yeah it's pretty near the barking crab which is overpriced but fun and kind of cool for being a lobster shack in the middle of the city

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:55 (sixteen years ago)

haven't been there in YEARS

huh seems the prices have bumped up a little, probably now that they have to wash their food in non-harbor water things cost more

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

Honestly, I'd go in and go for the lol hueg seafood platter to share and then go to town on that mofo, stick to raw bar daily specials board and apps and avoid the entrees.

dim sum place was Chau Chow City, 83 Essex in C-Town.

Drink friend looks not unlike Elijah Wood in LOTR and is shares the same name as Joan Chen's character in Twin Peaks (i'm being totally serious, is2g).

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

oh Chau Chow City is THE BOMB

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:03 (sixteen years ago)

love love LOVE that place so much

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:04 (sixteen years ago)

guys I just realized I will be working in an office extremely close to this area on the day in question

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:05 (sixteen years ago)

I've never been to Chau Chow City!

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

Can we get a headcount/venue for this? I'd like to make a reservation if it's still possible.

Also does anyone care if dinner is slightly on the later side? Turns out my wife is going to be at a board meeting (ooh fancy) that starts at 6 that night, so I'd like to make an 8/8:30 reservation so she can join (and so we can get really wrecked at Drink beforehand)

HI DERE, Monday, 21 June 2010 16:37 (fifteen years ago)

I'll be there! couldn't care less where we go, tbh, I would just ask that, if possible, y'all pick a place that is super T accessible as I'll be taking the orange line and then whatever connecting lines I need to take, but after I get off at whatever stop I'll have to get off at I'll be on foot

ksh, Monday, 21 June 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

Last go-round of suggestions centered around South Station (Drink, then Barking Crab/Chow Chau City). I think this is a marvelous idea, if only because I want to go to Drink.

HI DERE, Monday, 21 June 2010 16:42 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah, South Station is super close! dope

ksh, Monday, 21 June 2010 16:48 (fifteen years ago)

hey--late dinner is fine by me. my gf may join so for reservation purposes i will confirm that today. i will be working in the building next to south station and will be around for meeting/drinking after 5 or so. drink also has tasty bar snacks btw so any hunger should be easily spelled.

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

Dan went you a msg on FB.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 21 June 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

speaking of FB, if we're not friends yet y'all should add me! i am the dude w/ the top post on the ILM wall [the one about Wilco]: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200160366

i'll put a real picture of myself up later today so y'all will at least know what i look like beforehand, although it'll be me w/o glasses and i will be w/ glasses on Wednesday for sure -- mainly so I arrive intact

ksh, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:17 (fifteen years ago)

x-post - CAD I'll meet you after work. Just sent Dan a msg on FB about this but I was thinking and Drink is pretty expensive. IIRC it's about 13-15 a drink. If we go there and then to either BC or CCC this could end up being a pretty expensive night. Seeing as I'm unemployed right now that might not be ideal for me or others. I'll still be there regardless but wanted to see what others thought about that. Am also fine with late res and with either BC or CCC.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 21 June 2010 17:17 (fifteen years ago)

got it and replied

xp: wau slow

HI DERE, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

hey--yeah i am definitely sympathetic to that! ime, drink runs about 7-12 depending on the complexity of what you're getting. obv is tricky because they don't price up front. they also have beer and wine that is a bit more reasonable. i would also be up for just staying there for 1 or 2 and then going someplace a bit more reasonable.

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

wow i love saying a bit more reasonable

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

I think we should do 1 drink at Drink just for the "experience" (we are showing off for Ned, after all), then trek over to The Good Life. Maybe hit Drink at like 5:45, Good Life at 6:15, Chau Chow at 8?

HI DERE, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

That sounds perfect to me. :)

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 21 June 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

get your wacky alcohol requests ready for drink!

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

Wait - just to make sure - this is Wednesday, right? It be very typical of me to get the day wrong and show up tomorrow or something.

Also Sean and KSH - want to meet at South Station and walk over to Drink together?

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 21 June 2010 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

AFAIK it's Wednesday.

HI DERE, Monday, 21 June 2010 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

sure! ksh, when can you be at ss? i'll probably be done w/work right around 5 (or i can just tell ppl i need to leave at 5).

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 June 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

Okay this all sounds...amusing.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 June 2010 18:09 (fifteen years ago)
