Capped at 500MB now isn't it?

http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html

And can you get a micro-sim on simplicity? A friend got blank looks from staff at an O2 shop yesterday when he asked that question.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 12:51 (sixteen years ago)

you can cut up your old sim tho no? thought the 500MB cap wasn't coming in for a while? iunno, I'm currently on that simplicity deal

cozen, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 12:53 (sixteen years ago)

Ah, think the cap is only for new contracts. So if you've got a number of months left on your simplicity contract they'll honour the unlimited 3G data

groovypanda, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 12:56 (sixteen years ago)

orange has pay monthly sim only in various configurations: i use the racoon one.

I'm really struggling with the 16gb capacity so 32gb is looking really attractive. Will the phone be thicker though?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 13:10 (sixteen years ago)

no, it's thinner

you can just cut an ordinary sim to make a micro-sim? Top.

stet, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 13:12 (sixteen years ago)

Is it worth an extra £100 for 16GB more memory. I'll still be using my iPod for the gym/car etc so will probably only be using the phone for browsing, streaming & gaming

― groovypanda, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 8:13 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark

I bought a 32 GB last time and like stet...have 16 gigs free atm. the original thinking was to use the extra space for storing TV episodes, etc., but it turns out that watching video on an iPhone is not that pleasant of an experience.

I wonder how most DVD media @ 480p will look on an iPhone 4 which has more than twice the resolution

New iTunes has fixed slow cover art scrolling, it must be compressing all the too large images I added myself.

having been loyal to blackberry for quite a few years now i'm thinking of jumping ship. the new bold is terrible and has all kind of problems (internet browsing is useless, connection cuts out, os constantly hangs + crashes). but i'm worried about the impact of owning an iPhone on my personal brand and more importantly i'm still not sold on touch screen technology. the thought of how greasy the thing will get just freaks me out! and most ppls iphones seem to end up with cracked screens somehow or other. is it really possible to type fast on these things?

hoes on my dick cos my groceries bagged (tpp), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:17 (sixteen years ago)

if i buy an iphone will ppl assume i read the guardian and listen to bbc 6 music?

hoes on my dick cos my groceries bagged (tpp), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:19 (sixteen years ago)

what do ppl assume of blackberry users?

stofu (cozen), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:21 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno that they r super important?

hoes on my dick cos my groceries bagged (tpp), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:22 (sixteen years ago)

i'm mostly kidding btw but in my experience buying apple gear has made me the subject of ridicule from ppl at work (hardcore unix geeks etc)

hoes on my dick cos my groceries bagged (tpp), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:24 (sixteen years ago)

ridicule from hardcore unix geeks = you must be doing something right

sent from my neural lace (ledge), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:25 (sixteen years ago)

heh true. i'm generally pro-apple but i know many ppl who regard buying apple computers as essentially an exercise in vanity.

hoes on my dick cos my groceries bagged (tpp), Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:29 (sixteen years ago)

osx is based on unix so what's the conflict? new iphones have much stronger glass/touch is probably better than android based phones in terms of responsiveness. the screen does look like a greasy mess especially if you take a call on a hot day after having sweated for a bit. in fact NIVEA's new ad campaign here is based on the fact that your phone won't get greased up by skin oils after taking calls if you use their face wash.

still am only so-so with iphone keyboard after about a year, don't really use it to send emails or post to ILX too often.

dyao, Thursday, 17 June 2010 11:35 (sixteen years ago)

gonna try and have a play with one i think. blackberry is amazing for typing but really that is it.

one small step towards the enslavement of humanity imo

I'm installing iOS4 right now.

JimD, Thursday, 17 June 2010 17:54 (sixteen years ago)

Actually I've already installed it, I'm just waiting for my apps etc to restore themselves over.

JimD, Thursday, 17 June 2010 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

Professional jealously perhaps? At least that's been my experience when I can install packages with MacPorts significantly faster than it takes one of the snobs to sort out their config files.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 17 June 2010 19:06 (sixteen years ago)

ayo i love it and am a maintainer of my own little package (if you've used a2ps on macports then please paypal me $), but macports is a piece of shit compared to debian.

caek, Friday, 18 June 2010 00:33 (sixteen years ago)

i still play drop7 daily. like whoa.
reeder is essential as well, stet otm
words with friends, cia factbook, wikipanion, that's about all i use. should delete the other hundred apps i never open

156, Friday, 18 June 2010 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

but macports is a piece of shit compared to debian

I'll give you that, but I also have to deal with clients who have Solaris and still believe Linux to be a not-serious OS for hackers. (yes I KNOW I KNOW)

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 18 June 2010 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

I ordered an iphone 4, but the typing promises to be as awful as ever.

schwantz, Friday, 18 June 2010 02:45 (sixteen years ago)

i am typing this on solaris : (

caek, Friday, 18 June 2010 03:56 (sixteen years ago)

The typing is fine! Maybe not as responsive as a buttoned keyboard, but I can post on ilx using iphone or iPad easily these days.

postmodern infidel(ity) (mh), Friday, 18 June 2010 04:16 (sixteen years ago)

So hmm, OS4 feels a lot snappier on my 2yr old 3G, but that could easily just be the snappiness of a freshly restored phone rather than any actual performance improvement - won't know for sure unless it lasts (and I'm probably not going to keep this handset long enough to test that). It's nice to be able to do this though:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4709374215_034cdfde89_o.jpg

and do away with all that side swiping. Beyond folders and the new email client (given that the 3G can't multitask), not much else seems to have changed significantly.

JimD, Friday, 18 June 2010 07:21 (sixteen years ago)

isn't facebook a comms?

stofu (cozen), Friday, 18 June 2010 07:58 (sixteen years ago)

what exactly is new in the email client?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 18 June 2010 08:07 (sixteen years ago)

Threaded conversations, and (apparently) multiple accounts in the same inbox (although I've not tested that, last thing I want is work mails popping up as unread on my phone).

Yeah, couldn't decide where to put facebook, but "news" basically means "things I check compulsively several times a day".

JimD, Friday, 18 June 2010 08:20 (sixteen years ago)

have i missed something JimD? where is Zing Touch???
