South Park: Classic or Dud?

It was pretty much completely lacking in the funny, though. But their election episodes usually are.

I thought it was funny.

I liked all the Oceans 1x stuff.

I liked it. I liked that it seemed how they wanted to do a relatively straight bank heist story, intercut it with drunken idiocy to keep the lolz rolling, then tie both plotlines in together.

I thought it was pretty flipping AWESOME but then again: guinea pigs.

I've never really been sure what a libertarian is. I'm not that bothered to find out.

My favourite South Park episode is the Lord of the Rings one, where they are returning the porno.

The Guineasaurus Rex was kind of a punchline.

Was worried the Ike crying thing was going to be lolbertarian angle, but it wasnt thankfully.

Butters freaking out = always funny

^^^^ I laughed my ass off last week when he freaked out. i love butters!!!! this show is still hilarious and genius imo

Butters is easily my favorite character on the show.

perhaps I should stop posting to this thread since all I seem to have to say about SP anymore is how great Butters is

Does anyone else find this show kind of soulless and cruel? Maybe it was just the episode I watched, but there was like a 10-minute sequence where kenny threw a ninja star into a kid's eye and then to avoid getting caught they decide to disguise him as a dog to take him to the veteranarian, then they wind up stuffing him in an oven, etc. I mean I know it's all exaggerated and absurd, but I found something sadistic in the way the show just lingered on all of this so much, not to mention that it just wasn't funny. Maybe it's just that getting older thing.

i'm torn. the libertarian stuff does not appeal to me, but the show is still capable of being really fucking funny.

the part tonight about trying to return the "margaritaville" to sur la table was funny, but they had to beat the joke/metaphor into the ground.

on the one hand, corporations are corrupt, immoral and exploitative

prius drivers / politicized hollywood celebrities might be hella smug about their political beliefs, but they're uh...about exactly as smug as the guys making the show.

kind of agree with this, it was a weirdly wrong-feeling part in an otherwise good episode.

south park episodes vary in quality, to be sure, but as long as they occasionally pop up with a gem like the Britney episode, and other times divert us with the peruvian pan flute 2-parter, I'll watch it.

I think anyone who writes an episode of their show where they poo out of their mouths knows that they are smug bastards who only talk shit.

SP called itself out as being "preachy" in the cartoon wars episode, but I think stopped short of admitting that they might actually be wrong about stuff

the "oh ho this is actually topical!" reveal in the Butters/weapons episode was fairly right-on though

It was an easy joke, but I still laughed everytime Butters starting tossing around 'motherfucker'

South Park probably not a winner with Ofcom at 6 in the evening.

Yeah they used to broadcast it at night, but its a strange decision not to broadcast this at all. Really dislike any of the other cartoons on offer (Family Guy or what have you)

Family Guy is much more consistently fun, or less intermittently annoying, than South Park.

Really the answer to any query about Channel 4 scheduling is "because Channel 4 is fucking terrible".

This is crazy talk...South Park rarely misses the mark. Maybe its a British/American difference of humour/humor...but I think South Park has, if anything, become better over the years. Last seasons election/Ocean's 11 parody? The High School Musical parody? Twilight? All genius. They push the vulgarity limit, but always with tongue firmly in cheek. Family Guy, while "fun", will always be a sub-par South Park/Simpsons rip-off, that tries to push the limit to annoying ends...

Nothing to do with US/UK differences, I think a lot of people agree that 90 percent of the satirical or parody eps of South Park are like being shouted at by a couple of Ron Paulites for 20 minutes except less lol

Not that critical reviews are necessarily a good signifier, but I have never seen a review of South Park that called it less than brilliant.
