thomp, Monday, 14 June 2010 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

i did mine in NJ/NY it was the George Washington Bridge challenge.

Aerosol, Monday, 14 June 2010 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

thankyou. mine was in a stately home in england, so not so much

have just signed up for a half marathon in three months. this may have been a bad idea i think

thomp, Monday, 14 June 2010 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

i kept being all "will i wont i" abt every upcoming 10k/half marathon, and then when i had even half committed to myself i wouldnt run for a while. kinda realised that im not a ~competitive~ runner, i am a zen runner (i breath in life)

plax (ico), Monday, 14 June 2010 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

Hello I'm joining your dailymile group. So far I've 'ran' 5k twice, around 30mins I think. It was harder doing it alone this morning than with gf at the weekend, but maybe it was just being up really early. Not sure what my aim is, I think it'd be nice just to be able to run 15-20k a week without my knees falling off or something.

useless chamber, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 08:40 (sixteen years ago)

I friended you.

2.34 miles yesterday and at a 8 minute pace. Still some pain afterward though, but progressing slowly.

Jeff, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 11:20 (sixteen years ago)

just went for my first run for a month! (thesis-writing took over.) 4k in 20 mins, i.e. similar pace to the 10k I did in May, which is alright I suppose. gonna join that dailymile thing now, think it will be a good motivator to keep up the habit. Really appreciate having ilx as a runners' support group and a place to my record my little achievements!

p-dog, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

if you can do 10k in 53mins I wouldn't be too worried about a half marathon

cozen, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 15:30 (sixteen years ago)

i can do 10k in 62 mins, and i'm p worried about a half marathon tbh.

Really appreciate having ilx as a runners' support group and a place to my record my little achievements!

yeah, it's been great for me too.

May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 15:32 (sixteen years ago)

moved to a street called ridge road so it basically falls off steeply in every direction (tho there is a deec ~4 mile loop just staying on it, sorta) and there are p. good trails down below.

it is v. rough 2 climb back up at the end of my run & my legs feel like jelly...plus im usu running early evening and there is inevitably someone bbq'ing in their backyard rt around there and it smells so amazing it just makes me angry while im wheezing and trying not to fall over

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 15:07 (sixteen years ago)

sorta surprised at how much slower i am after not running for years. theres a track a couple blocks from my house, so i ran there. the garmin watchband for my edge arrived. its sorta clumsy, but it works:

Time: 00:29:55
Distance: 3.21 mi

Moving Time: 00:29:48
Avg Moving Speed: 6.5 mph
Max Speed: 10.2 mph
Avg Moving Pace: 09:17 min/mi
Best Pace: 05:54 min/mi

looks pretty good 2 me. what garmin device is this? my nike+ thingy is effed up, might just need to recalibrate my stride but might just scrap it

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

its the cycling one, the edge 500. you can buy the wristband quickrelease kit from the forerunner 310xt to adapt. no footpod on the edge 500, tho i think the forerunners have one? anyway, i just slap it on the wrist or bike, put on the hr strap if im into that, and go. very easy. it measured every track lap at exactly .25 miles, so at least its consistent.

lol my browser crashed tryna open the buy link there 2 look at it..i am on an ancient IE here at work so that may be it..thanks for the info

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 16:46 (sixteen years ago)

the link just shows my running workout on garminconnect site. you can upload your workouts there, rather than to a desktop app if you want. its actually a pretty weak site, but i think they'll improve it over time. the google earth integration is pretty fun for looking at mountain bike rides tho.

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

yea that all looks pretty sweet tbh. there was a link near the bottom for the edge 500

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

running stoned?

plax (ico), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

took about ten days off, went out for a veery slow 5k tonight, just felt good to be back out there

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

Legs have been pretty sore today, was planning on going out again in the morning but not really sure if I can cope with it. It's possibly a case of not warming up/down properly when I'm on my own (I've got that runnersworld site bookmarked but it just seems like such a hassle to get the computer on to do some stretching, I need my gf here to make me do the stretches properly atm). Managed to cycle to work and back today with no real tiredness though so maybe I'm imagining the aches. Might try more of a walk but I doubt I'll get up in time for that.

useless chamber, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

.69 miles today. I was due for a set back. This was it.

Jeff, Thursday, 17 June 2010 01:23 (sixteen years ago)

on my run today i saw:

  • a guy smoking a blunt
  • an injured baby bird i wanted to help but couldn't
  • a cute-ish white girl driving a donk

harbl, Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

what's a donk

admrl, Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

harbl, Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

after every run, my legs feel like they have been beaten with rubber hoses. its hard to get stoked for that.

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Friday, 18 June 2010 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

I'd take that over seering knee/itb pain My running mileage the last 3 weeks: 0.0, 3.8, 3.0. Isn't that depressing?

Jeff, Friday, 18 June 2010 19:59 (sixteen years ago)

that would be v. frustrating and unpleasant. i hope it gets better for both of us, then.

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Friday, 18 June 2010 20:21 (sixteen years ago)

The frustration continues. I'm 16 weeks away from my marathon and I don't see how I'm going to make it at this point. Started my shortened training program today. Was scheduled for a 3 mile run, but could only make it 1.6 before searing pain set in. It's so annoying because I feel fine for anytime I'm not running and even up to a mile into runs. Then I become a hobbling mess.

Jeff, Monday, 21 June 2010 11:00 (sixteen years ago)

:( that sucks.

the weather here is absolutely rocketing, best early summer in years (a decade or more) which is all well and good except that i'm really worried about heat being a huge factor in my 1/2 mara in a fortnight

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

ran 5 miles yesterday sooooooo slow, and took walking breaks. given my relative fitness in other areas, this actually feels humiliating and im resenting it. fuck u running, i dont plan to quit, so there.

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Monday, 21 June 2010 11:40 (sixteen years ago)

I wish the weather would get a little worse, not rain snow wind or anything but a dulling of the temp wd be welcome for both running and cycling

stofu (cozen), Monday, 21 June 2010 11:45 (sixteen years ago)

i took a week off after running in a 10k. tryin to get motivated and start back up tonight.

Aerosol, Monday, 21 June 2010 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

outran a thunderstorm by like 30 sec!

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:30 (sixteen years ago)

Did I mention that I got up at 4 am to run this morning? Despite the sub par run, I'm proud of myself for doing that.

Jeff, Monday, 21 June 2010 15:14 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, this weekend was the first really hot one where, although I managed 9 miles, I had to stop twice, cut my speed, do water breaks. Felt kind of just wiped afterwards too. Non-runners don't believe this, but would so much rather run while it's snowing than when it's 90+degrees...

paulhw, Monday, 21 June 2010 15:56 (sixteen years ago)

running in the snow is excellent

ogmor, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:34 (sixteen years ago)

oh running in the cold and wet is far far superior to 90 Midwestern humidity for sure

flapjackin (gbx), Monday, 21 June 2010 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

Totally opposite for me. Sad than my missing such prime running weather. It's going to be winter in like a month.

Jeff, Monday, 21 June 2010 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

went out for a slow 10k, which was achieved in 74 mins last night, but was going too slow so ran the last 2k in 9 mins. now i've got blisters and feel dumb.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

first run that didnt feel like utter shit, yay. 5 whole k.

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 01:46 (sixteen years ago)

I am still doing couch to 5k, although much slower. why is running so hard for me? I am keeping at it, slowly but surely! I just wanna run, man.

homosexual II, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 02:42 (sixteen years ago)

Couch to 5k worked well for me! I stretched it out a couple extra weeks though. Now I'm starting up again after four months off. Shooting for my first half-marathon in December. No point in rushing things :)

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 03:43 (sixteen years ago)

cross posted this to dm: out for a run at 'recovery' pace earlier; aiming to take it fairly easy at around 30mins for the distance but got sucked into chewing up the pavement between me and a couple of other runners. foolish really, need to run my own race. too 'competitive'. this ws evident by the end when it felt like my heart wd come clean through my chest : /

27:11 for the 5k

hi bianca :x (cozen), Thursday, 24 June 2010 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

what are ppls thoughts on the best time of day to run?

hi bianca :x (cozen), Thursday, 24 June 2010 20:31 (sixteen years ago)

when the hangover is done but before its too hot

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Thursday, 24 June 2010 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

I like evenings the best, if I'm not too zapped from work. Trying to be more of a morning runner though. Heat doesn't really bother me. Just stay warm please.

Ran/walked 2.4 miles last night, my longest post injury run. Decided to do 5 min run, 1 min walk and I think it helped a lot. Had relatively low itb pain, only some tightness there at the end. Still ended up with a 9.5 min pace. Going to try the same method tonight, but try and go a little slower. I hope the worst is over with this injury.

Jeff, Thursday, 24 June 2010 20:39 (sixteen years ago)

getting way more tolerable. ran to track, did 800 hard, 800 easy, 800 hard, 800 easy, 400 hard, and then easy home.

Went running for the first time in 2 months this morning around the lake downtown with a new running buddy. We both run at the same speed and have both slacked off for about 2 months so it was kinda perfect. It's the first time I have really had a partner so it's fun, good conversation. I'm looking forward to this being a regular thing.

I was always an after work/evening runner but doing it this morning before work really woke me up and cleared my head. I'm dying for a muffin though.

peacocks, Friday, 25 June 2010 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't been running that often due to various factors (friend visiting from out of town, weather has either been disgustingly hot or thunderstormy) and I'm still not running that far at a time (typically just a couple of miles) but the last couple of times I went out I a) could feel myself getting into a groove where I wasn't just thinking about how I wanted to stop, and b) jogged the whole way without walking at all. My pace is still not amazing because I do have to slow down sometimes to catch my breath but these factors are making me want to keep going with the running instead of giving up.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 25 June 2010 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

^ that's the stage at which running was the most fun for me, hope to be able to return to it after saturday week tbh

,,,,,,eeeeleon (darraghmac), Friday, 25 June 2010 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

i can't converse much at all while i'm running, how do you guys do that? I feel like if I’m talking I’m not running hard enough.
