Is that the bottle of Danzka I bought Ally for his birthday last year then Lara?

You don't need to buy me anything. It's like 40 pence or something.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Um........ We accosted him in the middle of the night! His defences were low! He seemed angry but we persisted! *Kirsten has to take some of the blame for this too*

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with PJ Miller, about Loach.

I like what Cookie said: 'Making Movies' (1980)! Class!

I like RJG, also.

the bellefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(Also, I told him I'd get him a replacement bottle, which I could locate neither in Glasgow in the limited time I still had there or in Dublin when I got home. I ended up getting a Danish friend to mail me a bottle from Copenhagen. I thought I'd just hand it over next time I was across but I've been lazy at trying glasgow this year.)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The scary thing about this thread is, how it's alive, and people keep posting to it, at the same time!

the bellefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I have not tried Glasgow since, like, 2.1.2004 or sth, la.

the bluefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Crosspost

If only they were as good at FAPing!

PF - my record is way worse this year and I have been in Edinburgh, which makes it almost shameful.

Danzka is expensive - Ailsa is very good present buyer. Official.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

We have FAPped. We have also FAIRed (Fancy An Indian Restaurant) for Vicky and Cabbage, which was quite impressive.

(I meant that the Daily Record was 40p by the way, not the vodka, in case there was any confusion. I bought the vodka in Spain, to where I shall be returning shortly. I shall buy some there this time too, I think. Come to Glasgow, Lara, and you can have some!)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Glasgow and booze - a marriage made in heaven!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I spedread that as 'Glasgow and boobs' and agreed wholeheartedly.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

'spedread'

the bellefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was too cold to whop em out. Have you become more racy since I last saw you?

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(I spedread 'speadread' as 'bedspread'.)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

'spedtyped'

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you become more racy since I last saw you?

I think so.

I thought about 'speedread', but rejected it on syylistic grounds.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

syyl boy

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

special 'regional' programming="spider-man", at the moment.

I wish they'd show "crocodile dundee" or, even, "crocodile dundee 2". not that I've been to the IMAX or the science centre or the southside.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(Southern readers might be unaware that the whole Crocodile Dundee trilogy was shot on brownfield sites on the outskirts of Glasgow)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Paris, Texas was shot in Pollockshaws, which gave Sharleen Spiteri the idea.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

and travis?

"taxi driver" was set originally going to be in dundee, wasn't it?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I think so, but I can't remember why they changed it. Googling comes up with nothing.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

'Bickle'

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, OK. Apparently it was because all the Dundee catering firms were already booked for the 'All The President's Men' shoot (which ironically was originally set in Inverness).

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

What the fuck happened to the Scottish film industry?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Local hero today, gone tomorrow

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"the taxi driver" was a comic strip character who originally appeared in the beano. his strip only ran for six weeks but that is where paul schrader, a big broons fan, first came across him.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There's quite a big Schrader/DC Thomson connection. 'Cat People' was his attempt at a noir update of Korky the Cat, I believe.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The critical consensus is that ulimately, it failed through being too faithful to the original text.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ultimately, sorry.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, he often includes references and allusions to many D.C. stories and characters. despite this, he has never attempted a direct adaptation, although, there were rumours that he had been in talks with yaphet kotto, to star, as the teacher, during early preparation for his unrealised "the bash street kids".

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

look, what you made me do.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a good chapter about the whole thing in 'Easy Riders, Raging Bulls'.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Recognise this, anyone?

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 1 October 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

For the above reason, and because I'm having a small and non-worrisome but nonetheless annoying operation today, could somebody else take over organisational duties? (also because I am shit at this, as you may have noticed)

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 1 October 2004 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems to have been removed from the photobucket server. Is it a picture of you in the bath?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 06:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Removed? I only put it up this morning. My bathroom ceiling has fallen in. It's not bad news because I think the insurance company is also going to have to replace my horrible bath, which I've discovered has had large chunks taken out of it by the impact of rubble.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, photobucket is down, generally. Hopefully it will come back later.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 1 October 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread has definitely got its second wind.

Prime Minister Tony Blair is having an operation today as well.

I tried to dign up to Photo Bucket for ROCKER PUB motives, but no go.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

second?

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, first.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It is known as the windy city.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

First time I went to Glasgow, it was very windy indeed.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 1 October 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

so good, they named it twioe.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 1 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have had a few showers in that bath, aaah, golden memories.

Sorry to hear about your ceiling, Madchen, & the annoying operation. I hope that recovery from both upsets is swift & complete.

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this a coded way of admitting you pissed in Lucy's bath?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Only messing :)

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 1 October 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)
