I ahd forgotten just how RONG the 80's were until I watched some Rod Stewart videos again! Jesus god!

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:27 (eighteen years ago)

What thread on ILM was it where I was defending "Tonight's The Night"? I mean, that's old school, but this tells more of the Rod story than I remembered. I take it all back. What an asshole, srsly.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:30 (eighteen years ago)

In "Infatuation", I love how he really shakes and all each time building up to "Oh no! Not again!"

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

And at one point he points to the blown-up photo behind him, like "It's her! I'm infatuated with her!"

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

Right, like it's a childhood crush instead of an elaborate project of spying and photo snapping. "Infatuation" my foot. *shudder*

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:36 (eighteen years ago)

speaking of my foot, though... I love my bright red Pumas. I like to wear them with colors like black and white and grey so they stand out. Does this make me as ridiculous as Rod in the "Some Guys" video? Because I don't want to give off that vibe, and if I have been, I would like to apologize to everyone who has ever seen me.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

Oops, that first video of the two shitty ones was supposed to be Cheap Trick's "Don't Be Cruel", not Melissa McClelland, whom I like but would not impose on anyone here.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

Keep the red Pumas. Embrace your inner Rod.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 06:42 (eighteen years ago)

xpost haha.. no need to repost, I know it as well as the tom petty one!

First it's Windowlicker, then it's Tales from the Crypt. Either way, it's really funny.

Best line: "Hold on a minute/Before we go much further/Give me a buck/So I can buy a rubber". Sexy as all hell!

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 07:21 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, also remember the video for "Our Love's In Jeopardy?"

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 07:24 (eighteen years ago)

Ah yes, Dr. Kevin, but wouldn't the wind be blowing from the west, moving the fog back out over the lake? HMMMMM?

wind blows from areas of low pressure to areas of high pressure. if there's a low over the lake and a high over land it you'll get a lake wind. or perhaps there is no wind on the morning of that photo. or perhaps it the wind isn't strong enough to move the fog, the rising sun could be burning it off over the lake but the sun's rays reached land yet. plenty of things.

holy fuck do i need a cigarette.

JEEZIZ FUCKIN CHRIST

ok so here in the middle of a very nice chicago evening, my neighbors and I have been having drama about this car alarm. This started at maybe 1:10... before my last post, even. Car alarm. Really loud one. I figured it would stop, because it always does. Even as I type the fucker is STILL going off, and loud as a siren. It's a little after 4:30 now. It woke me up real good, and went on for a really long time, and I knew the nuisance couldn't be limited to just me. I called the cops. I was not the first person to do that, apparently, because when I went downstairs to wait for the cops, there were already two other people, a young couple, dressed in not-especially-attractive robes. I rolled them cigarettes, and they marveled at how even though there wasn't a filter, it didn't make them cough. That made me happy.

(Update in real time in the middle of the story: the tow truck just hooked the thing up and is about to pull out. The car alarm is still going off.)

Ok, so the cops show up, this must have been around 2:30, over an hour after we called. Keep in mind there's a very loud car alarm going off in our ears this whole time. The cops show up. The only substantial thing that either of them says is, "Whaddya want me to do, shoot it?" They call a tow truck, tell us it's going to be a long time before a tow truck shows up, ticket the car and drive off, leaving us with the same problem as before.

Rick (that's the dude, obv) says, "You want a beer or something?" I do not want a beer, and somehow in the same exact instant that I decide that I don't want a beer, I decide what I do want.

"Let's cover this car in garbage," I say.

The rest of the story tells itself, really, except that at one point Rick grabbed a big piece of metal and I was like WHOA no we don't want to scratch up the paint permanently, just cover it in garbage.

So me and my neighbors totally broke open a bunch of nasty-ass bags of nasty-ass garbage and dumped them on a car. And then we went our separate ways. And the end of that story is already in the middle.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

and I still can't sleep.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

That's hilarious. Well, not the obvious annoyance of the damn alarm. We used to have a car on our block that must have had a really, really sensitive alarm because it would go off every time a big truck or a car with a lot of bass would pass it. Pissed me off to no end. The garbage idea is great.

Has anyone seen the ad for the season premiere of that show Cold Case? The entire campaign seems to be revolving around how they'll be using Nirvana songs in the episode. Its one of those shows that uses PERIOD HITS in the flashback scenes to crimes from decades past. Anyway, my mom really loves this show and its weird to see how much energy they are putting into advertising NIRVANA!!! for the episode. I'm not one of those to cry sell-out all the time, but honestly... wtf Courtney? Althought I imagine this results from her sell-off of some music rights last year.

damn it I can't find a good pic of Tom Skilling in front of a green screen weather map

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

Mornin'.

Jeff, I didn't figure you'd have a party, but thought you might have a little tradition or something instead.

I'm listening to Blonde Redhead's 23. It is so so very good.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

What was the name of that cute little second hand store on Division, not far from Alliance that closed a while back?

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

re: Nirvana/TV, on the premiere of "Gossip Girl" last night, the father of two of the main characters is a former 90s rocker. In one scene he's making flyers and enlisting his son to help him tape them to lampposts and he's like "Dad, haven't you heard of MySpace?!"

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:28 (eighteen years ago)

How was Gossip Girl? I thought about watching it, but I figured I already have too many shows to watch each week.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't see that, but did watch the premiere of ANTM, which featured Tyra getting a faux "kitty cat wax" by one of the contestants.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

Horshoe started a Gossip Girl thread last night. I saw the first half of it (at the gym) and thought it was pretty well done. A lot of location shooting in NYC (on the steps of the Met, etc.).

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

Horseshoe, I mean! Sarah, I'm afraid to ask what that wax entailed...

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

Well, the model was saying she's a bikini waxer back home, so Tyra asked her to demonstrate on her (fully clothed, but still completely ridiculous).

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

Wau, Kenan.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:59 (eighteen years ago)

Last night I got hypnotized by bad tv for hours. Can't remember the last time I watched so much broadcast television at once. I even saw some of ANTP. At least I got my laundry done. And at least I got to see Kitchen Nightmares.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

But I'm starting to think King of Queens maybe isn't terrible, and I used to hate that show. :( :(

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

This site is really good for wasting some time: http://www.damninteresting.com/

The one about rocket mail (pretty much what it sounds like) is good too.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa this one too, about a gigantic freshwater lake two miles under Antarctic ice: http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=449#more-449.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

If the drilling over Vostok had continued uninterrupted, thereby encroaching upon the liquid portion of the lake, the hapless Russians might have been assaulted by a towering geyser of ancient water and liberated oxygen due to the astonishing pressure of the hidden body of water.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

that is damned interesting!

river wolf, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

the nanda davi story has been covered a lot in climbing mags. apparently they've done follow up testing and found trace radioactivity in the rivers, which could only have come from the nuclear device or something like it.

river wolf, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

EZ, I like Regina Spektor. I have some sweet memories of re-learning how to sew on my porch last spring while listening to her.

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

I even saw some of ANTP

America's Next Top Poodle?

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, sorry about that. I was too.

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

NO OFFENSE PENISES!

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

haha

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

Dudes - do any of you use "ditty bags" or whatever the man term is for make up bags? If so, what is the best style? My dad wants me to make him one for his birthday & I think I'm going to have to invent the pattern . . .

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

Shaving Kit.

Dark colors are nice.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

I thought I would definitely use a dark color . . . but what kind of fabric? Corduroy seems nice but then it also tends to pick up bits of lint & string. Do I need to vinyl-ize a cotton?

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm. Is that a box shape? Which view is the top?

sweet tater, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

I think the zipper is on the top.

I'm guessing you don't want to use leather or snakeskin, but these are nice.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

I like that shape, for sure.
