YOU COULD PUT A BIT O' BUTTER ON THE SPUDS, ANDRE

Michael B, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:57 (sixteen years ago)

the andre one is like a failed draft of these later masterpieces

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

classic thred, but "he'll be barn in jurmany, but his feet will touch irish soil furst" crosses into official "fuck off and die" territory

harbly formed dn pun (zvookster), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

thats not a phake sounding irish accent btw

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:10 (sixteen years ago)

spelling is more trying to convey that simpering heartfelt whisper putting jam on the accent that is horribly fake. & anyone who would do something like this and tell people abt it is the worst kind of disgusting savage imo or certifiable.

harbly formed dn pun (zvookster), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

dear god man, just play him Thin Lizzy in his crib or something.

harbly formed dn pun (zvookster), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:15 (sixteen years ago)

have they found a donor for your soul transplant yet?

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:17 (sixteen years ago)

sorry man but grabbing him bloody out of the womb and plunging him into your shoebox to prove to everyone how important your irish identity is = NAGL

harbly formed dn pun (zvookster), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

Richmond Sausages: we have a packet of these in the freezer. Some people may think that is because I am gullible English person, but no! In town there is a butcher who makes sausages on the premises and they are a thousand times better. Richmond sausages are our cheap go-to sausage when we want to knock together a toad-in-the-hole.

Fat Dog Franklin (snoball), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

kinda feel liek they hint at this whole human drama surrounding his family's closeness, the suspicion that he's been taken by this german woman away from home, the land that was supposed to be his, that he still misses, and that this is just a way of making some sort of symbolic compromise

xp

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:43 (sixteen years ago)

idg the appeal here

Lamp, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

eh its like an actual thing that when you are visiting ppl in other countries you are required to bring taytos, and i know from all the polish supermarkets in ireland now that ppl really do miss stuff from home, ireland has a weird relat. w/ diaspora etc.

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

i am nostalgic for all these nostalgic adverts

May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:16 (sixteen years ago)

just lolling at "barry's tea", idk why

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:43 (sixteen years ago)

do irishmen living in england get nostalgic for taytos or is it just crisps in general longing for the further afield

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

they get nostalgic for it, sure and why wouldn't they?

May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

well as far as i have discerned tayto quality isnt that vast compared to yr average walkers and whatnot - certainly not a void on the level of a pole pining for his packet of cup-a-borscht or whatever

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

the taytos u get abroad are a pile of shit

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

they're not the same, yr import tayto are made in NI to a different recipe i think.

but in either case r|t|c god made taytos on day 7 iirc

May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:04 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i mean if you buy taytos outside of ireland they taste like cardboard, but here they really do render all other types of crisps irrelevant

plax (ico), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:06 (sixteen years ago)

cant imagine lyfe without taytos.

i mean barrys tea i can take or leave, tbh, that diaspora thing is just marketing bullshit. but taytos i dunno.

May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:10 (sixteen years ago)

nah that NI thing is mostly bullshit, they are pretty much the same ime. however walkers cheese and onion are fucking appalling compared to any tayto or king crisps....so shit, can't believe rtc can't taste the diff!

(that esb as above is beautiful)

x-post just also to say, don't think i miss anything from ireland apart from decent sausages and i am slowly being weaned onto the british variety.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

esb ad*

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

max, Saturday, 12 June 2010 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

no ur not, i would see u

plax (ico), Saturday, 12 June 2010 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

I was in "county roscommon" all week eating the pint of harp

max, Saturday, 12 June 2010 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

nobody drinks harp=u are not in ireland

where did u even find harp on draught

plax (ico), Saturday, 12 June 2010 22:54 (sixteen years ago)

well it was the metaphorical harp, really i was just eating loads of butter and various meat puddings

max, Saturday, 12 June 2010 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

i had "the pint of guinness" though just like james joyce once did

max, Saturday, 12 June 2010 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

anyone remember that dennys rashers ad with the irish guy and his american wife getting a phone call rom the old sod

Michael B, Saturday, 12 June 2010 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

how did you enjoy "the trip to ireland" max?

michael do you mean the denny ad where "it's breakfast time back home"?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 13 June 2010 09:06 (sixteen years ago)

I deeply enjoyed myself "local policeman" (via Gaelic). I went, with my grandmother, to the town from where my great great great grandfather emigrated. I also read the first hundred or so pages of Murphy. All in all, I would describe it as a "crack."

max, Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

i have never read any joyce

kindof ashamed

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:34 (sixteen years ago)

Really though, I had a great time--everyone I met was friendly and helpful and the food, despite what I expected, was great. Good job on your country.

max, Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:38 (sixteen years ago)

bought ulysses a few months back but can't get into it, despite liking musil/broch and stuff that gets compared to him a lot. max it's "craic" tho you probably knew that. "crack" is a drug which is frowned upon in Irish culture.

where in Roscommon was it? my friend's parents have a house in Boyle that I've been to a lot.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:40 (sixteen years ago)

i have only been to roscommon to go to hyde park

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:41 (sixteen years ago)

is one of those places i don't think i've ever met anyone from (aside from while being there)

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:42 (sixteen years ago)

nah they all flee to galway

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:46 (sixteen years ago)

I was near Boyle in a tiny town called Castlecoote. Very pretty but probably insanely boring to live in.

Joyce is great. But I read Ulysses in college with one of "those" professors and feel like I totally "got" it & by extension "the soul of all Ireland."

max, Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:52 (sixteen years ago)

Really though the reason I "get" Ireland is cause I've seen that Harp ad.

max, Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:53 (sixteen years ago)

you are more irish than the irish themselves

x-post otm, did you see sally o'brien at all while "home"

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:54 (sixteen years ago)

sally o'brien was irl a brit sori to destroy ur illusions

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:56 (sixteen years ago)

she was on the late late to break it to the nation i saw it on reeling in the years

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

can't believe i lusted after a brit...an insult to the patriots

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:58 (sixteen years ago)

sorry were gonna take you out and shoot you now RIP i guess you had a good run

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Thursday, 28 December 2023 20:34 (two years ago)

the airplane crash scene in Society of the Snow hit's even harder than that ad, just more snapping legs and broken necks than I needed at this moment.

that seat belt ad - holy shit! I can't imagine how they could make the violence that graphic without injuring the actors

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 5 January 2024 23:40 (two years ago)

I remember as a teenager when the first person learned to drive re-enacting that on the maiden drive in the backseat
