Wow. Brian Cranston is a really good actor. That minute or so at the beginning of the preview clip where he sits and waits in his smashed Aztec for whatever is coming over the horizon was great. You could tell Walt was scared, and probably not scared enough, but also irritated that the person he was waiting for was late, which is kind of Walt in a nutshell. When he grabbed his hat, I said, "Heisenberg hat!!!" and that was pretty great, too.

I'm super excited about this season finale. And a little apprehensive. Shit's going to be tense. It's called Full Measures!!! Yikes.

that shit was more surprising than anything that ever happened in for example, lost, and it made total sense.

My thoughts on Tomas: My take on this is that the local kingpins resented being told what to do (obv), so they just "followed orders" by exploiting a loophole that would just be one big "FU" to Jesse. They had to know that he'd come back on them at some point, but these do not seem to be men who think strategically in terms of long-term consequences.

Me too strangely! Even my wife goes to the other room when its on.

I had to skip some episodes in the Tucco story arc because the depiction of insane, dangerous, meth-addled crazy people was a little too accurate for my comfort, so I can kind of understand that.

xp and sometimes I have to go into another room when things get really intense! I still love the show, but yeah. It's hard to watch sometimes.

ya - my gf admits it's a quality show, but she can't handle watching it.

Yeah, I came this close to bailing at the end of S1. Though the second and third episodes were wicked, but the rest didn't entirely convince me. So glad I stuck with it; it was the ep where they were trapped in the desert with Tucco which made me realise how extraordinary it is.

xposts - I have convinced one IRL friend to watch it, and he's as hooked as me now. Everyone else kind of balks when they hear 'Dad from Malcolm in the Middle'.

yeah i def struggled to watch some of the more intense scenes earlier on in the show. now i think i'm a bit more used to it i just sit there with my jaw on the floor most of the time.

the pacing of this episode, and of this season really, has been so so spot on.

yeah I shotgunned the first season over the course of a weekend w/my gf half watching over my shoulder and she says she can't watch it now cos it really bummed her out

i feel like the show only really developed the sense of humour it has now in season two but i might just not be remembering right

i watched first two seasons in the middle of a 3 week sickness in jan...i never find it depressing or affecting. like, not that i'm a sociopath, i do see it is dark and not a happy show but i get a great joy from the quality of the storytelling. my friend in work says she feels like vomiting when she watches it.

i totally felt for jesse in the scene in the car where walt was all "you know jesse, your actions do affect other people". jesse is the only one who actually cares about the consequences of his actions!

the whole thing has brought jesse nothing but absolute misery its actually so depressing isn't it

Jesse seems like the kind of guy who would've figured out a way to screw up his life regardless, but yeah there is no denying that Walt hasn't exactly set him on a road to life success.

well he (was) clean and also rich...when walt met him he was prob worse off again. it's impossible to blame walt imo, eg he'd never have met jane if it wasn't for getting involved with walt either.

he turned out to not be a very good "the bad guy" tho i guess.

yeah of course, i agree, but so is blaming walt for jesse's current status.

That isn't what I said. I said that being in business Walt hasn't improved Jesse's life. It's pretty to hard to argue otherwise.

not that hard, he's richer, he's not a meth-head anymore. he has a pretty massive financial foundation to fall back on which would be a major help if he decides to start sorting out his psychological/emotional probs.

I think his psychological/emotional problems have only been compounded since knowing Walt. Money's not really much of a solution for those kinds of issues.

Reckon Jesse's pretty much responsible for his own fate - he has just as much capacity for making poor decisions as Walt, though he's a far less extraordinary person so his bad decisions have smaller-scale effects. Walt's never really coerced him into doing anything, as Jesse is the person Walt is most honest with, and Walt uses duplicity to coerce.

Totally agree, but I think that at the same time that choosing to align his fate with Walt has not resulted in much benefit (beyond money.)

Jesse living out his days as Capn' Cook, at worst he'd be in jail without meeting Walt. As he said earlier this season, he didn't have people constantly beating the crap out of him and/or trying to kill him, his game never would've been elevated to that level besides being pushed around by low-level guys like Crazy 8

the way i see it is Jess was never destined for big things on his own. Walt shows up and actually accomplishes some stuff with Jessy. so now instead of Jessy having the small problems of a small-time nobody cook - he has the bigass problems of a big time meth producer. his natural tendency is to fuck things up - Walt has only given Jess the opportunity to screw up and suffer on a much larger scale.

^^^this is true, but i would still be really surprised if jesse is killed. not that BB has ever failed to surprise of course!

i think saving him will take greater recognition on walt's part of how son-like jesse has become to him (thinking of the lecture in the car last ep).

I feel like axing jesse is the right way to go here. The only thing that would really surprise me would be if Walt died. Or Gus.

I'm not sure the show would be quite as watchable without Jesse and his Jesse-isms.

i doubt it's gonna happen. if the show wouldn't even kill Hank, they're not gonna let Pinkman go

i remember a great vince gilligan interview a year or two ago where he said he didn't anticipate letting his main characters get off easily. if this show goes on for four seasons - which is how long he envisioned it running, iirc - i gotta think that he considers death one of those easy fates
