Just found out that John J is FB friends and presumably irl friends with a girl I lived with briefly 10 years ago. WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE.

I'm pretty sure jj has at least one shared fb friend with me.

So, now that they're making all your actual "likes" become membership of some kind of page, isn't this making everyone get rid of their "likes" on their info page so they don't get updates from Girls Aloud/Yodelling Goat Cheese/whatever all the time? won't this affect the advertisers' ability to target ppl or does no-one care?

It is pretty dumb - Ive "hidden" a lot of mine from my feed (I dont need to be informed every single day that the Simpsons is about to start on US tv).

That said, it has been useful in some cases: I found out TMBG are having a tshirt clearance sale!

They've undone that connections stuff, I think.

Have they? I deleted all of my "likes" except for pages that I actually want updates from because I don't want updates/community page bullshit/the entire world to know that I count Manowar and Gordon Lightfoot among my favorite musicians.

Ah no, they haven't. They promised the "connections" would be removed in their big "privacy oh noes, will this tacked-on front page shut you up?" blog post, but looks as if they haven't

I'm trying to remove every friend I added back when I was playing Rock Legends. The game was taken off facebook a few months ago and now I'm stuck with 100s of strangers as my friends. This is gonna take a long time to remove

I'm not trying to antagonize you, John, i just end up erring on the "why?" side as opposed to the "why not?" side when it comes to friending creepy, lame, or boring people from high school/my home town.

oh nah im not antagonized, i just really am detached from taking facebook even remotely seriously or paying any attention to it (ughhh is that the new "i dont even have a TV probably arrggh) so the thought never crossed my mind

note: as a result of this lack of attentiveness i have now been sentenced to being greeted with eternal farmville updates every time i bother to log in, so your fate is the one you make i suppose

At this point I'm hiding a lot of infantile games played mostly by a) younger relatives, so fair dos and b) 'blond' people my own age who never left the midwest. My BiL is on a Mafia Wars binge so I learned the Block thing pretty much on day one.
