er. that should be "note".

I don't like people from elementary/middle/high school who try to add me to their friends lists when we were either a) never friends or b) never even LIKED one another.
I always don't know whether I should accept requests from people who I *was* friends with but that I haven't seen/communicated with in fifteen-plus years. it usually just ends up with both parties going "omg i haven't seen you in AGES, whatchu up to now?" on the wall-to-wall and then never speaking to each other again.

R**** wants to put on a tight skirt, and flirt with a stranger.
Sounds like someone got dumped!

new layout = FAILBOOK.
― Roz, Sunday, 27 July 2008 14:01 (seventeen years ago)
I dunno I kinda dig it.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 27 July 2008 14:09 (seventeen years ago)
looks the same to me, are they rolling it out in stages?
― akm, Sunday, 27 July 2008 14:10 (seventeen years ago)
think so.
it just seems kind of unnecessary. especially hate the combo wall-feed.

There's a button at the top that says "Try the NEW Facebook" or something to that effect that should let you reload with the new design. I think going to "new.facebook.com" should pull it up too.

Sure, I don't really see where or how it's necessary per se. The wall-feed is cool imo because it brings everything together, makes your entire page a big "this is the most recent shit I've done on FB" status updater. I'm with you in thinking it could stand for a better look, but I love the idea of it.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 27 July 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)
redesigns ok, still miles better than myspace
― max, Sunday, 27 July 2008 14:33 (seventeen years ago)
I think I'm mostly against not so much the functions but the design. it just looks really messy to me. the earlier version of the new layout that was posted upthread looked much better: http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44668000/jpg/_44668913_facebooknew1_416x300.jpg

lol leon wieseltier in the new republic - I will not rise to defend my generation, because we have made a muck of many things, and because we do linger long over ourselves, and because the analysis of life in generational terms is idiotic. Every generation holds every variety of individual. But I will not be given lessons in self-abnegation from Facebookers. The history of vanity has never seen anything quite like them. And I must morbidly warn them that connectivity will not protect them from the way of all flesh. When they come to bury a father or a friend, when their beauty begins to wither and their vigor to wane, when they awake one morning to the fear that they may have more to look back on than to look forward to--when the inevitabilities poke them, may their eight hundred "friends" stand them in good stead. I promise not to call their shudders whines. For if spring comes, can winter be far behind?

self-gabbnebgation?

Also sent a Friend add to a friend but after taking a second look at her prof pic realized it wasn't her. I had also added a message. Oops. Whatevs... she'll survive.
Apparently it was her. Yay.

― Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 7 August 2008 07:12 (seventeen years ago)
Removed a friend for the first time ever.
1. Barely know the guy 2. Shamess Howard supporter 3. Every time he wants to sell something or publicise himself, he updates his status EVERY HALF HOUR just so he's always in everyone's top three
― Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 11:31 (seventeen years ago)
I really love how the new Facebook now shows every status update a person makes in a day, thereby shaming those who change their status every 5 min (though you can probably still delete an old status to avoid this, no one on my friends list seems to be doing so.)
I find that the new FB is still pretty glitchy though - I surf in Opera, so they may not have really checked that browser. The CSS messes up a lot if you have images turned off.
― Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)
i bet leon wieseltier would join facebook if he knew dr. morbius was on it.
― tipsy mothra, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 15:20 (seventeen years ago)
The new one fucks up in Firefox under Ubuntu.

a conversation with my best friend, wherein he explains his plan to buy his girlfriend of apparently nearly a year really pricey fancy-seat tickets to Cirque du Soleil (me = SS, him = AJ)
AJ: haha, i think she's going to have to accept it as part of her early anniversary present SS: christ, anniversary? AJ: late october SS: christ AJ: it's kind of important to her. SS: hmm SS: is that the anniversary of... what exactly? SS: when you kissed? fucked? AJ: when (she) considers us officially together AJ: i don't have the timeline down AJ: i think the official anniversary might be when we could officially mutually update our relationship status on facebook SS: .... AJ: i know that's retarded
― salsa shark, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 23:21 (seventeen years ago)
damn.. whatever happened to the anniversary of the day I had to go get a morning after pill, or was that just me? I'm an old fashioned kind of girl.

My 16 year old cousin just added his photo to some random Hot or Not rating community so I surfed a few images back and found this bad-ass mofo posing in his parents' room in the suburbs, he is my hero:

Ooops, the second one is in a different (also pink) room.
― Finefinemusic, Thursday, 21 August 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)
Ooh! It's the new like-it-or-not Facebook design!
Man, don't javascript pop-up menus just give you a raging clit-on? Don't you LOVE it when you can't even see your navigation options without clicking on something as a preliminary step? Well, you clearly didn't design this website, then.
― so glitchy (kenan), Saturday, 13 September 2008 06:30 (seventeen years ago)
I don't even know how to interpret your complaints. I think it's fine and not altogether different from the previous design -- and in fact, it's less aesthetically busy, which is a good thing.
What's hilarious is all the people who are only up in arms about this now, the ones who have clearly been reverting to the Old Facebook for the last few weeks until it was no longer an option. Live with the new design for a while, like the rest of us have, and then get back to me.
― jaymc, Saturday, 13 September 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)
i got used to the new last.fm so i shouldn't slag it off yet, but smooshing up news feed and wall is deeply baffling, and the extreme left-alignment is weird.
― lex pretend, Saturday, 13 September 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)
Having said all of that, it still owns My$pace amirite?
― I am Barack and I need your vote (SeekAltRoute), Saturday, 13 September 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)
Fuck new facebook. Having everything nicely formatted on one page was perfect. I know they probably had their reasons for making the change, whatever they may have been, but the reaction has been uniformly negative as far as I can see.
― john mccain's illegitimate black child (musically), Sunday, 14 September 2008 03:47 (seventeen years ago)
Okay, I'll bite. I'm not a big fan of the new design, either.

No, nor did I. I do now, it seems.
― the pinefox, Sunday, 14 September 2008 11:26 (seventeen years ago)
there are definitely things about that are good (clicking on "view photos of so-and-so" and getting to see all their albums at the bottom is nice), but they all seem like minor improvements compared to wtf usability-destroying wall/mini-feed mashup.
― it be me, me, me and timothy (bernard snowy), Sunday, 14 September 2008 13:14 (seventeen years ago)
While I think the new design lacks elegance, the extent to which some people are up in arms about this is ludicrous. It's as if Facebook were somehow contravening their human rights by having a layout change. Relax, you'll get used to it.
Having said that, I am a habitual 'back to the old Facebook' clicker.

basically, all those annoying apps are now kept on one easily ignorable screen
After living with it for a few days, new Facebook >>>> old Facebook. The wall/status updates thing is so much more conversational now. I like having little discussions pop up between my friends on random topics.
