Shall we anticpate the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

xp - funny... similar disagreement i have with my sister about skyler and betty draper, both of whom she identifies with much more as a wife + mom. sky has come a long way since ep1 though, keep watching!

i will be disappointed if they don't do anything else with walt jr. even if it's something as contrived as the rehab gf/combo connection... but pleased to say i'm excited for this week's ep again after the lull, which might not be such a lull on a dvd run through or whatever.

like a guttenberg, strong with your mane (another al3x), Sunday, 6 June 2010 21:19 (sixteen years ago)

she identifies with skyler? oh no.

yeah harbl, i agreed with you pretty much 100%... unfortunately you're gonna have to tolerate it for quite a while, but the show is totally worth it. also, the seasons are relatively short.

Nhex, Sunday, 6 June 2010 21:28 (sixteen years ago)

at least skyler's not as bad as will's wife in glee, who I see they've now all but killed off she was so bad

finally caught up with last week's. so good.

marie to hank as he tries (and fails) to walk: "pain is just injury leaving your body!" hank: "pain is my foot up your ass, marie!!"

what did gus mean about making the same mistake twice? working with jesse i guess?

i was shocked to see jane. that's two people they've brought back from the dead (in flashback) this season. goddamn jesse had a good thing there huh?

the scene where BROCK and the grandmom walk in was AYOOOO CLASSIC. what is going on with jesse here? his brain is seriously malfunctioning. these guys used to know all the shitty motels and hangout spots and squats to sell to, but jesse needs to pull some kind of undercover three-day espionage shit just to sell one little deal? this is his plan??

i was convinced that when jesse get given the rock at the end he was going to look down and see blue stuff.

The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 6 June 2010 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

oh also can i just say i am glad that jesse appears to have a shred of humanity remaining.

The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 6 June 2010 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

isn't jesse's idea that they keep things more private so they're not on the streets dealing and attracting the type of people who killed his buddy?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 6 June 2010 22:48 (sixteen years ago)

that's two people they've brought back from the dead (in flashback) this season.

I make it three (Jane, Combo and Tortuga).

i would like to point out that like everyone on this show is a shit human and an interesting character.

after the ending to tonight's episode i'm thinkin walt oughta forget about the car wash and invest in a windshield replacement business instead

del griffith, Monday, 7 June 2010 03:09 (sixteen years ago)

i was worried with the goofy handshake thing but then they reaffirmed my faith with the ending. no more half measures.

keythhtyek, Monday, 7 June 2010 03:11 (sixteen years ago)

wooooah! "Run." goddamn, now we have to wait a week.

watching these late, but just finished watching the episode with the first appearance of Saul Goodman. Holy shit.

Walt is ICE COLD.

So much plot and character beats fitted into less than an hour, yet it never for a second felt rushed. How do the writers do it? I am in awe.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 7 June 2010 14:11 (sixteen years ago)

oh man that ending SO GOOD. this show and its HOLY SHIT moments!

Nhex, Monday, 7 June 2010 14:12 (sixteen years ago)

xp right on man, i was constantly surprised how many things were happening, and that the episode kept going

Nhex, Monday, 7 June 2010 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

Had a good chortle at Skylar Wikipediaing money laundering.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 7 June 2010 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

hah me too. also gotta love BB's trademark blatant foreshadowing too: 1)"i'd use mom's car, but you know the brakes are like EEEKKKKKKKK" 2)walt's immensely massive denial in "I am not a murderer, you are not a murderer"

Nhex, Monday, 7 June 2010 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

run

so A) how does this not get traced back to Walt's car? and B) how does Gus not blame Jesse for this?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 7 June 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

rip walt's latest windshield

i dunno, i kinda figure that by this point, having now done what they've done, walt & jesse are basically in it to win it and they're gonna have taken over the entire southwest operation by the middle of next season, with hank in tow and gus's scalp on their belt

del griffith, Monday, 7 June 2010 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

i noticed the meet with Jesse did not warrant veggies and dip.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 7 June 2010 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

i thought walt would blame the deaths on jesse somehow...like maybe he was just protecting him and now will cut him loose. or maybe he's hoping he knows enough about gus to talk his way out of the repercussions.

i fucking LOVED saul's fixer guy's story...so well written and so well acted, he is a brilliant character. this whole ep was amazing tho, BB's grim montages with happy music are growing in confidence each episode!

The Association opening was stellar.

Gee, Officer (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 00:52 (sixteen years ago)

also the score during that final confrontation.

Gee, Officer (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

I forgot to chime in: fuuuuuuuck

I mean, that shit was more surprising than anything that ever happened in for example, lost, and it made total sense. Gosh, it's been a while since any tv made me feel like that. This show is amazing.

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

So. . . does anyone think that Walt is overestimating his importance here? Sure Gus would like to have the "best" chemist working for him, but couldn't he make do with someone else (like the assistant guy who Walt ditched)?

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 15:56 (sixteen years ago)

I'm re-watching a bit of S1. The tone has evolved a lot, it was more of a black farce in the early days. And yes, Skylar was way worse back then. Forgotten about all the Marie shoplifting stuff, that turned out to be kind of pointless.

xpost - think to some extent Walt just fancied a bit of suicidal craziness. He's been unusually cautious all season and hasn't done anything pointlessly self-destructive for a while.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

I really loved that bit from the Fly episode where he just flat out says "I've lived too long." Really just laid it out on the table there. But really this is a natural consequence of everything that's been happening since the end of season two - despite Jesse constantly putting them at risk and his betrayals, Walt has already basically accepted him as part of his own family, and rationality and caution be damned.

Nhex, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:06 (sixteen years ago)

He cares for Jesse a hell of a lot more than he'd admit to anyone, least of all himself.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

When Gus said 'no more children' to the two dealers, did he actually mean them to go and do what they did, on the assumption that they'd tie up any loose ends and then continue without using any kids, or were they just assuming that's what they should do, or just purposefully perpetuating the thing with Jessie...

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:19 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah that's the real mystery there. I assume it will be cleared up next ep (just like the fact that they were dealing the blue meth was cleared up this ep.)

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

xxp you think? I think it's pretty obvious to everyone concerned that he cares a ton about Jesse to basically his own detriment.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

It puzzled me too - I read a theory on a blog that maybe Tomas took issue with being cut loose and kicked off the altercation, which makes sense.

xpost - yeah, everyone else sees it, but Walt doesn't.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

"I read a theory on a blog that maybe Tomas took issue with being cut loose and kicked off the altercation, which makes sense"

Pretty sure they could of handled Tomas without murdering him. Dude was 11.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

yes but that would be a half measure

jeff, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 17:49 (sixteen years ago)

ha!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

wouldn't they just kill him cos why keep him alive if you can't work with him anymore and he knows you? i didn't think it much of a mystery.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

i'm wondering what the point of P.I. guys speech was now. was he insinuating Walt should kill Jesse? what actions was he trying to talk Walt into?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:43 (sixteen years ago)

did he think Gus's mediation was a half measure - or Walt letting Jess do whatever with those dealers?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:43 (sixteen years ago)

i figured he was saying time to kill jesse, he had become a liability. but i guess the effect of the speech could just as easily have made walt do what he did.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:46 (sixteen years ago)

"wouldn't they just kill him cos why keep him alive if you can't work with him anymore and he knows you?"

Sure but they didn't have to kill him in such a public way.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i guess that's true, any chance gus set this up to get jesse/walt to kill the two dudes?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:51 (sixteen years ago)

That seems very hard for me to believe. Why wouldn't he just let Jesse go through with his stupid risin plan if that's the result he wanted?

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:53 (sixteen years ago)

yeah you're right. just idly speculating really. i honestly can't see where walt/jesse are going to go now.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:54 (sixteen years ago)

Walt seems to be working off the idea that he's either untouchable or he doesn't have anything to lose (except of course his family's lives. . . ) Jesse is just going to have to leave town.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 18:55 (sixteen years ago)

My guess is that Walt has picked up on Gus' innate sense of business, and that Gus already has a bit of a mentor fondness (or weakness) for Walt, in a similar dimension that Walt has with Jesse. Walt is probably hoping (or will, quite possibly he'll be super panicked next episode if he hasn't thought this through!) he can still negotiate with Gus, or at least stave him off for a while.

Gus' dealing with the Jesse situation was the first time we really saw cracks in his armor - it's possible he's just not cut out for the street level stuff, like Heisenberg. Maybe he made similar, horrible mistakes in his past as has been alluded to. I don't think he manipulated the situation, it seems more likely he managed it badly - a half-measure, with the pathetically vague "no kids" line, though before Jesse's "NO!" Gus was as scary and bad-ass as we've ever seen him.

Nhex, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 19:01 (sixteen years ago)

I don't usually watch the Sneak Peeks on AMC btw, but the one for next ep is well worth it.
