OK...what's weird here?
Bush Calls Obama
The White House press office says that President Bush called to congratulate Barack Obama at 11:12pm this evening. A couple of quotes from the press release:
"Mr. President-elect, congratulations to you. What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters. Laura and I called to congratulate you and your good bride."

I thought maybe it was an old-timey expression I wasn't familiar with, but Googling ["your good bride" -bush] only pulls up weird international dating services.

has anyone read that sarah vowell book about puritans? if so, is it good?

That Bush quote is weird most of all because I can imagine him saying it, stuttering a bit, and it STILL sounds weird.
"Blessings upon you and your goodly wife. For your feasting table, we will be sending you a fine fat goose!"

Work has been too much like work today, despite still being bossless.
Yeah, John, I was just thinking of your 0bama meeting because I looked on Nasta's page to try to find out if they did that song and saw your band pic with him again.

I also like it when dogs do funny things like put their butts on rock ledges and put their legs on lower rock ledges. Or when they put their butts on the couch and their feets on the floor.
A woman with a seeing eye dog got on the bus this morning. She sat in one of the middle-facing front seats and the dog dutifully got under the seat and rode there quietly with his nose on his paws. Awwww.

Let the Right One In was good. Three out of four of our group agreed. It was quiet, dark, moderately gruesome, and atmospheric. It also answered some vampire what-ifs: what if a vampire eats regular food? what if you don't invite the vampire inside and it comes in anyway?
The dissenter's complaints were that it was too plodding and that you didn't get into the characters' heads.

i forget if i mentioned it, but if The Pool is playing in chicago, i highly recommend it (set in India, directed by the American Movie dude, and one of my bros did the soundtrack). i think jaymc would like it in particular.
― Jordan, Friday, 7 November 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)
Role Models looks terrible. I think we might finally see Rachel Getting Married tonight.
Oh also I meant to ask: Is anyone else besides Eric interested in seeing the live simulcast of the Met's production of Doctor Atomic tomorrow afternoon? In Evanston, probably.
― jaymc, Friday, 7 November 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)
i didn't know david wain directed role models, i might see it anyway.
― Jordan, Friday, 7 November 2008 17:54 (seventeen years ago)
Jesse, there is a thread on Let the Right One In now.

It's at noon. Kr and I are thinking about doing brunch at Heartland beforehand, if you want to join us.
― jaymc, Friday, 7 November 2008 18:35 (seventeen years ago)
It's showing tomorrow at noon, a live simoulcast from the Met.
Seeing a simoulcast of this other high-tech opera could be good, too.
Role Models looks like 10 other movies with the same formula (boys become men), but, hey, there are plenty of heist movies with the same plot, too, so hey.
― Eazy, Friday, 7 November 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

― jaymc, Friday, 7 November 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)
I think I can get you some. The discounts are age-based (25 and under), but I should be able to get something. It's a fantastic show.
