I did ask for a refund on my training program. I still plan on running the marathon in October, but I just didn't want it hanging over my head that I paid so much money for a training group and wouldn't be able to make the mileage. I'm almost certain that would have made me run injured.
― Jeff, Saturday, 5 June 2010 14:42 (sixteen years ago)
well i decided not to worry about time because guess what? when there are tens of thousands of people you really can not run very fast. i am not sure what my official time is but based on my own tracking i was faster than my last 'official' 5k but not as fast as some training times i have had. at any rate, it was kind of an amazing event!!!

god my official time was just over 30 and even though i decided not to worry about it that is just super frustrating because i feel like if i had not been weaving through people and some woman had not walked in my way right at the finish line, i would have been fine. but i have to remember: not about time, not about time!
― tehresa, Saturday, 5 June 2010 16:03 (sixteen years ago)
That's an obstacle course! Imho that's a great time, even though as agreed it's not about time... Glad you enjoyed the whole thing.
― ljubljana, Saturday, 5 June 2010 16:45 (sixteen years ago)
sounds like fun, I've never done an "official" 5k but I'd like to try some this summer

Just ran a 16 miler while under the weather (I left work sick on Friday with a stomach bug/headache, and it's stuck with me over the weekend)... probably not the best idea, but I pulled through alive and shuffling along. OUCH...

My marathon training is supposed to start today. I'll attempt a 3 miler but stop at the first sign of pain.
― Jeff, Monday, 7 June 2010 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

I did the charity 5k last night in 29:01, so chuffed to have done it in under 30 minutes! I came 574th out of a field of over 1200. Not bad for a fat man who's only been running for about 2 months.

:) tip of the hat.

1st run of my running programme today and the first time I've ever done a timed 5K; feeling pretty sore in the calves right now, which is unusual, but I did go a bit harder than usual since I was timing

have you been running with others, or run any other events?
― May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:21 (sixteen years ago)
soo i have always run on the balls of my feet. also, have had a recurring injury on the anterior part of my ankle. i got these Newton shoes, and i'm not sure if it's the shoes, or the fact that I'm alternating running with biking/yoga, but, crossing fingers, so far no injury.
― [email protected] (lukas), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:31 (sixteen years ago)
I did a 4 mile a few months ago. I think I'll be ok. Xp
― suburbaniatee (Aerosol), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:37 (sixteen years ago)
yeah you'll be fine no doubt, but ran my first 10 myself a few weeks back and was pleasantly surprised at the difference on the day running with others and in competition made.
― May be half naked, but knows a good headline when he sees it (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:39 (sixteen years ago)
Totally! All the excitment of the day and stuff. It was also cool that peeps stood along the race to cheer, even for us at the back of the race.

oh 23mins58 btw
― flamelurker (cozen), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:01 (sixteen years ago)
Just ran 1.6 miles! Longest run since my injury.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:13 (sixteen years ago)
I got two of these, they are fantastic. I've never enjoyed icing my knees so much. Pricey but highly recommended.

If you're not already stretching your calves you probably should be. It will help you recover quicker and come back stronger. Try this maybe: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-241-287--8969-0,00.html

Ran 3 miles tonight. Too humid. Ugh.
― ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Friday, 11 June 2010 06:02 (sixteen years ago)
i ran in the middle of the day today, it was stupid. i get a weird popping sensation around my knee sometimes. not painful though. i wonder what it is & hope it's not bad.
― harbl, Saturday, 12 June 2010 19:37 (sixteen years ago)
was also totally ignorant about calf-stretching. i stretch them only one way, by leaning against something. i should do those. there are just too many stretches to do and i do like 4.
― harbl, Saturday, 12 June 2010 19:41 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i dont wanna spend as much time stretching as running ffs
― plax (ico), Saturday, 12 June 2010 19:43 (sixteen years ago)
rite, then you gotta do your weights and shit, that's hard enough. then you gotta go hang out on the internet for a couple hours. life is so busy.
― harbl, Saturday, 12 June 2010 19:45 (sixteen years ago)
you do weights???
― plax (ico), Saturday, 12 June 2010 19:55 (sixteen years ago)
