ksh is some kind of privacy lunatic. like the unabomber of facebook. dude has no links to his friends, no groups, no links, just one most recent status post, no info...

Mordy, Friday, 4 June 2010 19:37 (sixteen years ago)

lj + ksh, most short-lived friendship ever?

salsa shark, Friday, 4 June 2010 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

Kenan, I operate on the same principle, minus the Republican fucknuts. It has to be an historic/old friend for me to tolerate conservativism or religiosity (and of the latter there are only three out of ±450 folks, and one of them is a gold star mom). Luckily the people I am back in contact with from home are mostly socially just lefties.

All I wanted to do is vent about people who are high-handed or uppity WRT themselves on social networks. I'm being specific about a friend/colleague who is closing her 'friend' page and turning it into a 'like' page. <--- lifestyles of the irony-rich and semi-famous.

Through looking at the ILM group wall I have learned that Hongro is actually spelled Hongrø

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

Just found out that John J is FB friends and presumably irl friends with a girl I lived with briefly 10 years ago. WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 04:22 (sixteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure jj has at least one shared fb friend with me.

postmodern infidel(ity) (mh), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 04:32 (sixteen years ago)

I just found out an ex-colleague of sorts is in the ILM group :)

So, now that they're making all your actual "likes" become membership of some kind of page, isn't this making everyone get rid of their "likes" on their info page so they don't get updates from Girls Aloud/Yodelling Goat Cheese/whatever all the time? won't this affect the advertisers' ability to target ppl or does no-one care?

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 06:15 (sixteen years ago)

It is pretty dumb - Ive "hidden" a lot of mine from my feed (I dont need to be informed every single day that the Simpsons is about to start on US tv).

That said, it has been useful in some cases: I found out TMBG are having a tshirt clearance sale!

property-disrespecting Moroccan handjob (Trayce), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 06:34 (sixteen years ago)

They've undone that connections stuff, I think.

stet, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 13:08 (sixteen years ago)

Have they? I deleted all of my "likes" except for pages that I actually want updates from because I don't want updates/community page bullshit/the entire world to know that I count Manowar and Gordon Lightfoot among my favorite musicians.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 13:19 (sixteen years ago)

Ah no, they haven't. They promised the "connections" would be removed in their big "privacy oh noes, will this tacked-on front page shut you up?" blog post, but looks as if they haven't

stet, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

Just saw this comment, from a dude, on a girl's profile pic.

Being Lost in a Womans Beauty is Being Touched Deep within Your Soul!

Dude is well on his way to Sex Land.

oops wrong thread ha

Not the real Village People, Saturday, 12 June 2010 01:04 (sixteen years ago)

I'm trying to remove every friend I added back when I was playing Rock Legends. The game was taken off facebook a few months ago and now I'm stuck with 100s of strangers as my friends. This is gonna take a long time to remove

scooter (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

oh hey i never look at this thread

Just found out that John J is FB friends and presumably irl friends with a girl I lived with briefly 10 years ago. WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE.

― o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, June 9, 2010 4:22 AM (1 week ago)

even better, she is an ex that i prob dated for a couple years (the endpoints and start points are ahem confusing at best)

I'm pretty sure jj has at least one shared fb friend with me.

― postmodern infidel(ity) (mh), Wednesday, June 9, 2010 4:32 AM (1 week ago)

hmmmm i am curious now because my fb friends are basically A)creeps and unknowns from my high school (thx HI DERE) B)ilxors C)peeps i am pretty directly connected to

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

why are you friends w/ crepey people, john?

sarahel, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

I still sorta can't get over that connection. So random.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:41 (sixteen years ago)

i think the best response to that is OH LOOK IT ARE TEH INTERNETS tbh xpost

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

i think the best response to that is OH LOOK IT ARE TEH INTERNETS tbh

what do you mean by that, exactly?

sarahel, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:48 (sixteen years ago)

sorry. "Please notice, this state of affairs is occurring within the medium of internet social networks, so who gives a fuck." hope that helps

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:02 (sixteen years ago)

sorry for giving a fuck

sarahel, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:07 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not trying to antagonize you, John, i just end up erring on the "why?" side as opposed to the "why not?" side when it comes to friending creepy, lame, or boring people from high school/my home town.

sarahel, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:12 (sixteen years ago)

oh nah im not antagonized, i just really am detached from taking facebook even remotely seriously or paying any attention to it (ughhh is that the new "i dont even have a TV probably arrggh) so the thought never crossed my mind

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

note: as a result of this lack of attentiveness i have now been sentenced to being greeted with eternal farmville updates every time i bother to log in, so your fate is the one you make i suppose

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:17 (sixteen years ago)

press "hide" next to the first Farmville update you see, then press "Hide Farmville" or whatever, and you're free

ksh, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

At this point I'm hiding a lot of infantile games played mostly by a) younger relatives, so fair dos and b) 'blond' people my own age who never left the midwest. My BiL is on a Mafia Wars binge so I learned the Block thing pretty much on day one.

WHEN CROWS GO BAD (suzy), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

appreciate the tips but i am digging my own "ignore this thing" approach, it has done well for me so far in life

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

whatever works yo

ksh, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

I've hidden every single app/quiz/whatever ever since day one. The minute a new one appears, WHAP. Gone. Add adblock to that, and I dont even see all the crazy side-ads.

property-disrespecting Moroccan handjob (Trayce), Thursday, 17 June 2010 03:07 (sixteen years ago)

Hahah Whaaat, FB have just introduced the "like" function to comments on status updates!

My page has gone crazy with ppl clicking like on everything in sight.
