rangda on monday see you all there
― Ward Fowler, Friday, 28 May 2010 06:10 (sixteen years ago)
Indeed; I'll be there. We should actually say hello for once...
― krakow, Friday, 28 May 2010 07:42 (sixteen years ago)
anyone for some potted hough?
― jed_, Monday, 26 July 2010 23:24 (fifteen years ago)
What were the flying ants all about?
― Efraqueen Juárez (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 8 August 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)
it was a thing today
― heterosexist matrix of desire (Gukbe), Sunday, 8 August 2010 04:50 (fifteen years ago)
oh man yesterday i was at the forge and these fuckin things were everywhere, flying into people's hair and clothes, it really was like the first plague of the apocalypse...bring back the midges
― Ward Fowler, Sunday, 8 August 2010 06:27 (fifteen years ago)
I was in Edinburgh yesterday, and they were a thing over there as well.
― ailsa, Sunday, 8 August 2010 09:15 (fifteen years ago)
Flying ant day. Pavements were crawling, too
― stet, Sunday, 8 August 2010 11:12 (fifteen years ago)
I'm on t'other side of the country but lately we've had a plague of aphids the likes of which ye've never seen (or I've never seen, at least). A real fog of them. I'd get indoors and have to brush literally twenty off of myself. Calmed down a bit now, though.
― Merdeyeux, Sunday, 8 August 2010 12:17 (fifteen years ago)
leave glasgow for 3 days and you miss the flying ant plague, typical!
― jed_, Sunday, 8 August 2010 12:37 (fifteen years ago)
I moved after flying ant day in London and before flying ant day in Glasgow. Result!
― Madchen, Sunday, 8 August 2010 20:28 (fifteen years ago)
Madchen = ant repellent in human form. Please come back!
― ailsa, Sunday, 8 August 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)
dear glasgow
I will be back in you briefly, probably, on the 5th and 6th of September. anyone FAP on Sunday evening (this will be colliding with other internet friends again, though), even kicking through to nOtptimo? or a lunch/after work pint on the Monday? grimly, Ward, I'm looking at you.
love, kit
― Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 08:57 (fifteen years ago)
I'm down for that!
― jed_, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 10:01 (fifteen years ago)
i mean up for it.
I have not seen various Glasgow peeps in approximately forever, so a beer could be added to my not-exactly-hectic social schedule, I'm sure.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 11:52 (fifteen years ago)
A full on Glasgow FAP would be great, so my vote wld be for the Monday after work, but can do Sunday too

Monday after work better for me as well. Can I issue a pre-emptive "not Mono" strike? Somewhere near Central would be easier for me, because I am (1) selfish and (2) lazy. How busy does Stereo get on a Monday post-work?
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 12:50 (fifteen years ago)
intense mono hate from me also. stereo good. sunday is fine by me - i may also go to Optinot, i haven't been yet.
― jed_, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 13:25 (fifteen years ago)
Actually, we've had a couple of decent evenings in the Pot Still, and the seating is comfier and more conducive to chatting than in Stereo, if that's any help at all?
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 13:44 (fifteen years ago)
hooray!
on Monday I'm prrrrrobably dashing to Fever Ray, so somewhere close to Sauchiehall St would be good, if that helps narrow it down.
― Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:06 (fifteen years ago)
i'll probably meet you on the sunday if that's okay. if you are going off to a gig on monday you'll have to leave about 8.00, which is pretty early.
― jed_, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:56 (fifteen years ago)
yah I know, hence weighting it to Sunday. if the support's rubbish it gives a little leeway though, or if some people finish work at 5 there's some decent time.
if my other peeps work out a Sunday meeting place I'll post it here - probably near the station, cos one bloke's coming through from Edinburgh, but hopefully not the festering Wetherspoons right by the Sub Club.
if that's okay
it shall be a delight to meet and to rave with you.
― Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)
I'd recommend MacSorley's if you're looking for something near the train station and the Sub Club.
― heterosexist matrix of desire (Gukbe), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:14 (fifteen years ago)
there's a pub near the sub club that's pretty good, good music policy, DJs sometimes.. can't remember the name. it may even be owned by the subbie?
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:21 (fifteen years ago)
Tracer, that's McSorley's.
great sic, see you sunday. i think i remember from the optimo thread that krakow was up for a no-ptimo too.
― jed_, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)
That looks decent! Ta. (xpost)
And ailsa's suggestion of the Pot Still seems convenient enough for the ABC, so if it'll turn into cat-herding otherwise waiting for more suggestions, let's at least lean toward that for the Monday?
and yes, krakow was keen to enter the mysterious world of the "night-club."
― Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)
woOo
― jed_, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)
Woo, Glasgow FAP!
(I have just looked at Facebook and today's recommendation of a thing I might like is "Mono Cafe Bar")
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
The support for Fever Ray is Zola Jesus so most definitely should be seen. I will be there also.
I am indeed up for Notptimo.
Into a general FAP at some point as well. I put a whisky-drinkers vote in for the Pot Still. If you don't like Mono then going to Stereo makes zero sense to me.
― krakow, Thursday, 19 August 2010 07:48 (fifteen years ago)
If you don't like Mono then going to Stereo makes zero sense to me.
It's nearer the train station to get home.
― ailsa, Thursday, 19 August 2010 08:02 (fifteen years ago)
OK, it makes one sense to me.
― krakow, Thursday, 19 August 2010 08:05 (fifteen years ago)
I'd still rather the Pot Still, whichever day/night we go.
― krakow, Thursday, 19 August 2010 08:06 (fifteen years ago)
i really like stereo, it seems completely different to mono. it has atmosphere and the staff are nice, on the whole. well, they're at least civil.
― jed_, Thursday, 19 August 2010 09:12 (fifteen years ago)
I really like both Mono & Stereo too, they are two of my favourite bars/venues/whatever in Glasgow.
I thought that the thing with Mono was mainly that ilx Glasgow FAPs have always defaulted to there, right? In that case it just seemed that Stereo wouldn't be that much of departure.
I'm mightily happy in any of these places.
― krakow, Thursday, 19 August 2010 09:46 (fifteen years ago)
Thing with Mono is that a bar where people don't want to serve you doesn't make for pleasant fappery. Also, it's miles away from Central for those of us who don't live in the town.
I always find Stereo too busy (at least with Mono you can usually get a seat), but that's only because I really only go into town at weekends. We tend to end up in those seemimgly-terrible old man pubs at the bottom of Hope Street, because it is easy to get a seat in there. But I thought it would be a decent compromise, being near the station, and nearly-but-NOT-Mono.
― ailsa, Thursday, 19 August 2010 09:51 (fifteen years ago)
i always get madly riled-up in mono. it's become "a thing" now.
― jed_, Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:00 (fifteen years ago)
i'm actually squaring up before i even go through the door now.
― jed_, Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:01 (fifteen years ago)
The comedically surly camp barman in Mono is one of its plus points for me. His unwavering misanthropy makes me smile.
― krakow, Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:08 (fifteen years ago)
alpen lodge
― ___wayne_grow___ (cozen), Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:09 (fifteen years ago)
shut it
― jed_, Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:10 (fifteen years ago)
Fair play on its relative distance from the station though. I don't live in town either, but am independently mobile (bicycle), so such things don't occur to me.
― krakow, Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:15 (fifteen years ago)
Rockers
I didn't know about this shared Mono hatred! It's always seemed fine to me, although I've never been when its role is a proper pub rather than a concert venue or an eatery. But I am intuitively disinclined from using it as a pub, whereas I do like Stereo for that.
while I'm here I'll note for those interested that having passed through the Union Street Fopp today, their current book selection is pretty good - I got 'The House That Trane Built' for £4, 'Modulations: A History of Electronic Music' for £3, the Thurston Moore / Byron Coley No Wave book for £3, Bob Dylan's 'Chronicles Volume 1' for £2, and the lovely 'Horizons Touched: The Music of ECM' for £10, among other less interesting things.

highly recommend the Mono Ping Pong Tournament
― a cankle of rads (Gukbe), Thursday, 19 August 2010 22:13 (fifteen years ago)
saw mr past3l playing ping pong at a friend's 50th bday party recently, dude is a hustler
still like mono because it is a bar WITH A REC SHOP IN IT
― Ward Fowler, Friday, 20 August 2010 08:00 (fifteen years ago)
total hustler. he set up the first tournament and and then won it. good fun, though.
