this actually would've worked for me fine as a season finale, if there was a season 7 in the fall featuring Hurley & Ben's Fantasy Island and a promise to actually resolve some of the show's original mysteries.

the christian reveal was fine, altho they should never have bothered with the whole purgatory shit. and why did his coffin disappear? and if their most important memories were with the people on the island, why didn't the plane crash? etc etc

abanana, Monday, 24 May 2010 03:54 (sixteen years ago)

Michael and Walt weren't there because one of them is 6 years older than he's supposed to be and one of them bitched to the press about the way his character was written off, no need to formulate any explanation within the show.

they swore that the island wasn't heaven/purgatory back in season 1 so they had to create an alt timeline to be heaven/purgatory

cuz that's totally different

dmr, Monday, 24 May 2010 03:55 (sixteen years ago)

The more I think about Christian being the intersect, the more sense it makes. So now I'm okay with it.

But yeah, that heaven/purgatory thing was a blatant bait and switch.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 May 2010 03:57 (sixteen years ago)

was hoping for a little MiB to show in Ben

|8 l) u_u (bnw), Monday, 24 May 2010 03:57 (sixteen years ago)

I thought when Jack's body washed up on that rock, he was playing the role of MiB... or that maybe he always was MiB... but whatever.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 May 2010 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

"Mr. Cuse and Mr. Lindelof, who plan to drop out of sight for a while after the final episode is broadcast on May 23" = "We have a well stocked bunker and are prepared to stay there until the rioting stops"

Definitely thinking these dudes stepped into a car Keyser Soze-style a few hours ago and will never show their faces in public again.

also, people died! mikhail and keamy. you can't have a heaven/purgatory where people die. like how boone dying proved the island wasn't purgatory, remember?

abanana, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:00 (sixteen years ago)

the alt was really just an extended exercise in fan fiction.

s.clover, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:00 (sixteen years ago)

I don't necessarily mind what they did with the sideways reality, but I do mind that they took half the final season to do it, seeing as in the end it turns out to have absolutely no bearing on anything unfolding on the island. Like, you could have done this whole 'afterlife as departure lounge where people let go of their shit' with the characters of any show, it didn't play into the weave of the show at all.

Is it far? Is it far? Is it far? (Jon Lewis), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:00 (sixteen years ago)

All this season it's seemed like when everyone in the alt 'awoke' to their relationships to one another there would be some alchemical reaction with events on the island, but instead... yeah.

Is it far? Is it far? Is it far? (Jon Lewis), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

also what was the point of jack not dying in the pit, but instead washing out only to die like 3 minutes later?

s.clover, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

PS I'm not gonna front like I didn't cry, I did.

Is it far? Is it far? Is it far? (Jon Lewis), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

I think the point of that was just that they decided years ago that the final scene would be Jack dying while on the ground of the island looking up a la the pilot opening scene but figured out most of the stuff in between while breaking this season.

every night i tell myself i am the custos, i am the wind. (some dude), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:04 (sixteen years ago)

they pushed a few emotional buttons in this very well, banked heavily on people giving into their feelings for the characters and turning off their brains.

end party in heaven and alt-timeline were different places/times, right?

|8 l) u_u (bnw), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

oh man dude crying at the beginning of kimmel is never gonna hear the end of it.

scott seward, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

lol i cried too :`(

|8 l) u_u (bnw), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:07 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, tbh, I was way more intrigued by the island's mythology for the whole season (or really that last few seasons) than I was the individual crash survivors. They did do a good job of making me remember there was a time I cared about them at all.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:07 (sixteen years ago)

Jon Lewis OTM about everything, including the crying.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:07 (sixteen years ago)

also what was the point of jack not dying in the pit, but instead washing out only to die like 3 minutes later?

i wondered about this, too.

keine Macht für dich mehr! (Eisbaer), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:08 (sixteen years ago)

My ABC station is pushing Kimmel back a half hour. Dopes!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:08 (sixteen years ago)

I actually held it together until Vincent laid down with Jack. I said, "Vincent's going to feast on Jack's corpse" and then I bawled.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:10 (sixteen years ago)

hate this fucking show

max, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:11 (sixteen years ago)

not as bad as battlestar but for christs sake

max, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:11 (sixteen years ago)

almost turned the damn thing off when christian was like "youre dead too" or whatever idiot thing he said

max, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:11 (sixteen years ago)

I wonder how much they even tried in the writers' room to tie together shit and pick up previous plot strands, or if they just came up with the flash-sideways-heavon thing a while ago and just got all excited about going whole hog with it, damn the consequences

every night i tell myself i am the custos, i am the wind. (some dude), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:14 (sixteen years ago)

crying is fine, but this was a closeup of some unsuspecting audience member right at the start of the show. his friends will youtube i'm sure.

scott seward, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:14 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, Kimmel started :30 late here too. Weird. Love the band going to commercial with "You All Everybody"

Grisly Addams (WmC), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:15 (sixteen years ago)

they insist they don't have the time for answers, because there are more important things, and then it turns out half the season was totally pointless.

s.clover, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:16 (sixteen years ago)

Ok so the one thing I learned from lost is that black men don't get to go to heaven

Fists all gnarly and dick-dented (jjjusten), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:16 (sixteen years ago)

fighting back giggles during the Faradayshaft Rock Experience was probably the most enjoyment i got out of the episode

every night i tell myself i am the custos, i am the wind. (some dude), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:17 (sixteen years ago)

xp Maybe it was Mormon heaven.

Eighteen straight. I think that's a record. (kenan), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:17 (sixteen years ago)

"also what was the point of jack not dying in the pit, but instead washing out only to die like 3 minutes later?"

so they could do the eye thing.

scott seward, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:18 (sixteen years ago)

I appreciate the eye closing thing.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:18 (sixteen years ago)

"People who believe that they're in purgatory or that they're subjects of an experiment are going to start reassessing those theories based on the fact that we are literally showing you the outside world." From the NTtimes May 25, 2006

Jacob Sanders, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:20 (sixteen years ago)

not as bad as battlestar but for christs sake

Talk about damning with faint praise! But yeah.

ô_o (Nicole), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm probably going to wake up tomorrow and be happy about this ending. I'm already coming around to it now.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:25 (sixteen years ago)

So ignoring the whole alt resolution for a moment.

Desmond unplugs cosmic stopper, causing the 'rules' of Jacob/MiB to cease-- so now Jack and Flocke can actually hurt each other. Right? But why does that make Kate now able to kill Flocke with a gun? Did the unplugging cancel out everybody's powers so that Flocke was now just a dude?

Is it far? Is it far? Is it far? (Jon Lewis), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:26 (sixteen years ago)

Need a animated gif of Kate's reaction to staring into the magical vagina, was laughing my ass off at that

alananana (Mr Raif), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:26 (sixteen years ago)

it seemed pretty clear to me that yeah, Flocke lost his invincibility/immortality/etc. why would only Jack be able to hurt him and not Kate?

every night i tell myself i am the custos, i am the wind. (some dude), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:33 (sixteen years ago)

how did hugo die? if he was immortal.

scott seward, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

a highlander killed him

|8 l) u_u (bnw), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:37 (sixteen years ago)

He went into that little booth in the fortress of solitude and renounced his powers.

Eighteen straight. I think that's a record. (kenan), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:38 (sixteen years ago)

just dropping by to say this was the dumbest conceivable way to end this: poorly structured, badly acted, abysmally written and lacking in interior or any other kind of logic. just sheer horseshit.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:39 (sixteen years ago)

I wanted to be sad and to feel those tearful moments, but sadly I didn't. I couldn't stop thinking of how they didn't come thru for me. That most of season 6 and been a let down, and the finale did nothing to remedy that. I'm more sad at the disappointment of Lost that the show being over. For a second I was thinking that Jack would be the new MIB and Hurley the new jacob, which was surprising me and making me happy. But nope everyone's happy and in heaven.

Jacob Sanders, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

i wasn't really expecting much, i don't think. so, weirdly, i wasn't that disappointed.

scott seward, Monday, 24 May 2010 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

^^yep. it was about average for this season.

|8 l) u_u (bnw), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:47 (sixteen years ago)

I keep thinking of the writers saying in every interview, "We're making the best show we can"
