Great episode! I usually hate the idea of set pieces and studies of character psyche, but this was brilliant.

directed by Rian Johnson (Brick/Brothers Bloom). Great episode, atypical without being too showy.

good episode, I though, tho opinion seems mixed

i was way tired and kinda drunk and nodded off at some point in this ep. half hour of fly swatting seemed pretty dud though. will give it another run tonight.

interesting ep. i could have done without all the random camera tricks.
i did like how they toyed with us - making us think Walter was going to spill the beans about watching chicky die.

was sort of frustratingly low on plot but a decent episode i guess, i found walt's descent into being mental a bit sudden and disconnected from how he's been in previous ep.

i enjoyed this ep but i dunno...it makes me worry a bit for the future of the show for some reason.

this ep would probably work better if you were just plowing through the season on dvd but as far as my only breaking bad ep for the week, it was disappointing and now i am sad

I thought it was brilliant episode! After a string of very fraught and eventful episodes it was really great to settle into a groove of Walt/Jesse interaction. And by the end, I was feeling genuine tension over whether or not they were going to get the fly. Remember we're about to hit the final three eps, and I think this provided a deliberate low-key breather before whatever the climax is going to bring us (not that it wasn't fairly intense in its own way). This show is the king of pacing.

Also it offered a chance to thoroughly take stock of the two leads' current mental states.

I thought they earned this episode. Needed a breather anyway.

eh, i thought the last episode gave us plenty of time to catch our breath. i understand they're just trying to demonstrate walt's guilt-driven existential crisis, but did they have to shut down plot progression for the entire hour? also yeah camera tricks blargh - why do i need to see a shoe being tossed up at the fly from the fly's perspective? so i can empathize with the fly? also, the facial flyswatting three stooges routine was unforgivably corny. unforgivably!

i thought the fly might actually be gus's "bug" cuz of the magnifying glass shots of it at the beginning and then walt bringing it up at the end regarding jesse stealing. good episode tho

A lot of shows have low-budg episodes and this was it. Just two actors and a room. Wow. Hilarious too.

tried again and it was decent. think i dozed off before any of the jane stuff last time, which was good. kinda wanna go back and watch the scene with walt + jane's dad again now. also loved walt's "there must be some combination of words" line of thinking.

were they were deliberately recalling those major pieces of last season to set up the final few eps? really hope chap is right on the pacing there, but i'm worried like garda (xposts) -- the fly gimmick was stretched and the last two eps have felt drained of narrative tension compared to the first half of the season.

very slow ep, understand why people wouldn't like it. but i forgave it for some really juicy monologue portions and the need for a breather ep before the final stretch

also yeah, how random was it that rian johnson directed this, probably explains all the funky camera angles

i thought the last shot was to indicate that walt's cancer is spreading because the fly wasn't actually there right? i thought it was fantastic. walt's been semi-oblivious or in denial about the path of destruction he's created and when he was loosened up by the sleeping pills he seemed to reacquaint himself with the idea of being human.

cancer relapse would draw skyler back in...

I'd actually be kind of annoyed if that happens, would seem like a huge step backward narratively - the kind of wishy-washy plot stuff you'd expect from lesser TV dramas to keep it going. Gilligan said last year he was still on track to end the show at season 4.

"Yo we're making meth here, not space shuttles"

The cancer reappearing is kind of what Walt wants at this point, and Gilligan has made the point several times that the writers aren't going to let him off that easily.

I love when Jesse goes on about the Discovery Channel, Hyenas licking each other's junk etc. Episode was kind of annoying me initially but once i realized it was gonna be one of those set-piece affairs i enjoyed it more.

Awesome episode. Esp. loved Saul/Skyler meeting.

Skyler joining the family business was a twist i didn't see coming but they've made it fairly plausible over the season.

terrified but then realising he is enjoying the conversation i'd have said. can see gus and walt becoming buddies.

got the netflick of 1st season disc one. first episode was ok, dunno if i can continue unless something bad is going to happen to the wife because i hate her. don't tell me though.

Stop watching. Your never going to like the show.

Actually, don't stop watching, the show is fantastic. Just close your eyes everytime there is a Skyler scene.

I really hated Skyler until about the end of season 2, and her big showcase in "IFT" this season was so badass that I now consider her one of my favorite characters.

Don't LOVE her now, but generally agree - after you're caught up with the show, you can read my rantings about the character after season 2 ended, further up in the thread. It honestly was the one thing that kept from really classifying this as a truly great show - absolutely despised the character - and they finally started addressing it this season - she's a much better character now.

Skyler is a shit human and an interesting character
