Two nights ago I was camping, and I had some Jealousy-influenced dream about smashing giant centipedes. An hour after waking up, I ran into one of these guys, the Giant Desert Centipede aka the Giant Sonoran Centipede. It was at least 6" (15 cm) long.

i was about to say the same, latebloomer -- most of the deep-sea creatures i've seen are nowhere near that pokemon-esque, though.

not to mention that a real-life Pokemon IS kinda creepy (even if not really disgusting).

I always thought that the termite queen was puke-inducing.Then you'll like this info even more: The African ones are supposed to be really tasty when baked. (If you don't have any moral qualms about destroying a nest that's prolly been around for 30-40 years, that is. )

Rhinoceros beetles are also one of the strongest animals on the planet in relation to their own size. They can also survive Nuclear warfare.

The researchers suspect many individual sloths visited the latrines: on one occasion a mother and baby visited.

in that youtube clip above, i'm not sure which is supposed to be the "world's most disgusting animal," the rhino beetle or the guy who ate it raw.

Surinam toad is way the worst, reminds me of Gulliver's Travels and that description of the Brobdingnagian woman's breast tumour.

I totally feel this post. These are nasty, horrible things only made worse by the fact that if you catch them running across a sidewalk, you might well mistake them for a kitty cat. (Though if you get rabies, you're still kind of a moron -- you shouldn't be approaching feral kitty cats, either.)
― kenan, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 12:45 (fifteen years ago)
The opossum is the one animal that I was familiar with in the south that I was surprised to see in the north. There's no armadillos up here, no marauding raccoons, certainly no deer. But there's still opossums.
― kenan, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 12:51 (fifteen years ago)
Chicago is home to marauding raccoons. Ask Jesse.
