Now that Jack is the new Jacob, Hurley, Sawyer & Kate are no longer candidates, right? Which means MIB can kill them (or doesn't need to.)

Are Keamy and Christian the only characters of note who are dead in both timelines? I don't think it means much, but I'm just trying to keep track.

It's probably too much to hope now that the Aquahotties will play a pivotal role in the alt timeline.

I think "Aquahotties" may be ILX's greatest contribution to the Lost lexicon.

Remember that blog that was all "Hurley is the key, he's the only one who's not really flawed" or w/ev? I was kinda hoping he'd turn out to be the candidate that volunteers for the island job. Or at least that there'd be some discussion other than Jack's "yeah I'll do it" "ok".
Maybe this was some Lost promo after all:http://islandreefjob.com.au/about-the-best-job/
― Not the real Village People, Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:34 (sixteen years ago)
betting that jack volunteering is a red herring---I mean, doesn't that resolve one of the bigger mysteries pretty hastily and without much fanfare? no more candidates! now it's just about getting everyone else off alive!
think (hope) that something happens that traps an unwilling candidate (or candidates) as nu Jacob/mib. it'd be more interesting than dumb boring jack being Serious and it'd open up opporunities for sequels (not that that would be good/worthwhile, but I kinda like some open-endedness in my comic books).
― gbx, Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:49 (sixteen years ago)
I love the idea that Jack's neck is bleeding in the sideways timeline because he's about to get his throat slashed in the main one, but that might be wishful thinking on my part.

Agree-- too-easy Jack volunteering for Jacobhood + Hurley obtrusively saying 'Just it glad it's not me' = shit will shake out so that it's hurley.
Anyway, I liked this ep. With that much Ben in it, I'm bound to be happy.
Strong evidence that Ben and Rousseau will hook up in the finale-- this somewhat lewd jello mold, did anyone else notice this thing?

motherfuckin CLIP SHOW. disgrace.
if lost pulled a clip show on you guys for the last episode the internet would BLOW UP.
A christmas special where the kids look forward to seeing Santa Claus and then the mother and father actually think they see the sleigh flying by at the end of the episode, after the kids go to bed, would be a sweet finale

Actually after this I have quite a bit of hope that the finale will actually be really good. I don't actually want every single little mystery solved, that would be lame, I want there to be a big twist and lots of explosions and betrayal. And for Mr Eko to be in it.
Still think that the destruction of the island is the logical endgame whatever happens, and if Smokey is going to try it he's going to fall right into the Widmore/Desmond trap.
Hurley and Desmond are definitely fully aware of everything that's happened in the alt-timeline, so I guess that's where the story ultimately ends? Anyone else notice that Ben had the same facial injuries in both timelines?
If that's Richard dead then it's a dick move. He gets swept off by Smokey and then no one refers to it again. Then again Smokey beat the shit out of Keamy and he still survived so I guess immortal Richard can tough it out.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:01 (sixteen years ago)
id forgotten that alt-hurley 'got it'
i guess that was one of the better eps
and on some level it's 'impressive' that there is so much to reveal: what the alt-timeline is, and what the consequences of MIB escaping are.
it's not really stated but doesn't jacob actually have *two* roles: keeping MIB on the island, but away from the magical light-emitting stream?
i wish it had been a bit better executed -- just h8 jacob so much.

I assume in the next episode Jacob will reveal why he let Jin, Sun and Sayid die, as he promised to do?
Also not crossing Sun off the candidate list because she was a mother was a dick move. Or, for that matter, not crossing Jin off the list because he became a father. Lame.

(I mean, recall that Widmore created an ENTIRE FAKE DECOY AIRPLANE OF CORPSES, alienated his daughter, and so on, to get the island back, and there was that whole "you broke the rules" thing with Ben, right? But now, it's like none of that ever happened.) Nothing that was key in the early seasons — the origins of the Dharma initiative, that devastating death-in-childbirth issue, the themes of rebuilding a diverse society — is even in play.
― James Mitchell, Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:18 (sixteen years ago)
The fact that Widmore's motives are now reduced to "Jacob convinced me to drop everything and kill Smokey." It's not the biggest deal, but it's another factor in the shriveling of everything ambiguous to the framing device of good versus evil. (I mean, recall that Widmore created an ENTIRE FAKE DECOY AIRPLANE OF CORPSES, alienated his daughter, and so on, to get the island back, and there was that whole "you broke the rules" thing with Ben, right? But now, it's like none of that ever happened.
Nah I still think there's a Widmore long-game being played here with the alt-timeline concert at the end of it, whatever happens there I've no idea. It kinda needs Desmond and Widmore to meet up in the past though.
It seems pretty established that whoever's died in the original timeline can live, conscious of what's happened on the island, in the alt. So perhaps they can make us all happy and finally kill Kate on the island.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:20 (sixteen years ago)
Nothing that was key in the early seasons — the origins of the Dharma initiative
Does that even matter any more? They were idiot scientists experimenting with weird shit the island was doing. They devoted most of last season to it. Aside from whatever happened after the bomb, what more do we really need to know?
that devastating death-in-childbirth issue
Not that interested in this but it'd be good to at least show they care.
the themes of rebuilding a diverse society
Yawn.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:22 (sixteen years ago)
also, i thought smokey said he could only leave if he had all the candidates with him? i've forgotten. but evidently that was a lie, because he caused their deaths and destroyed the submarine.
n e ways, jacob's death* made it possible for him to do what he wanted to do.
did he really just want to destroy the island all along?
*it's got to the point where we just allow ghosts to exist in the lostverse
― long time listener, first time balla (history mayne), Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:24 (sixteen years ago)
Fuck this show's shitty ending.
There's two and a half hours left to play and they usually throw a massive curveball right at the end of each series. There's no way we know all they're going to let us know, it's not just going to be "oooh good vs evil, Jack loves Kate" until the end.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:26 (sixteen years ago)
He told the candidates that they had to be with him, but that was just to get them all in one place so they could be easily killed. No candidates means no trouble leaving the island/destroying the island (or whatever his plans are).
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:27 (sixteen years ago)
