You guys, I might just not watch the finale and work hard to never hear anything about it. There's no way it will be satisfying.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:09 (sixteen years ago)
the seinfeld finale was pretty satisfying in retrospect. the malcolm in the middle finale was very 'lost'-esque.
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:14 (sixteen years ago)
tbf, Seinfeld was much easier to wrap up than Lost. I liked it at the time, and I like it even more now. The thing I've started to realize about Lost is that I like all the things about the show that I've cooked up on my own, and almost nothing that the creators actually explain or intend.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:16 (sixteen years ago)
ok what is your satisfactory finale cookup?
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:18 (sixteen years ago)
Ideally, the MiB gets off the island and the parallel timeline turns out to be reality, proving that Jacob was just a manipulative goon who was killed with good reason. Or at least something partially along those lines.
As for what will actually happen, I have no idea. But every time the show actually offers a resolution, it sucks. I don't know why they would change their M.O. now.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:22 (sixteen years ago)
it ends with everyone in the alt line together and conscious of the unalt one and being like "OK yeaaah let's go to island and FIX this thing" the end
― conrad, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:25 (sixteen years ago)
In the season premiere, the island had been destroyed...if Smokey/Flocke/MiB is successful, the parallel timeline should become reality. The only wrench in the machine is what Smokey actually turns out to be. I'm hoping all the claims about him being pure evil are misdirection (i.e. things cooked up by Jacob to justify his own actions). Nothing Smokey has done has run counter to behavior of one person trying to escape captivity. Jacob, on the other hand, changes his story and his motivation all the damn time.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:28 (sixteen years ago)
There's an interesting writing problem with what Smokey would do once he got out. Would he just bum around, or run for office or what?
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:32 (sixteen years ago)
hope the concert includes a wanky version of 'all along the watchtower'
― long time listener, first time balla (history mayne), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:32 (sixteen years ago)
Maybe Smokey was Desmond the whole time.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:37 (sixteen years ago)
i think there was a smokey sound at 1 point when we cut to alt desmond
wonder if what he is doing in alt world is the failsafe
if jacob's task was keeping smokey away from the ever-giving light... was that it?
and how?
― long time listener, first time balla (history mayne), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:40 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, i think des working in the alt world is the failsafe
― gbx, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)
But the failsafe from what? Jacob's plan or Smokey's?
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:45 (sixteen years ago)
i find it hard to believe that the candidates were chosen simply because they were "flawed" and not because jacob knew they would somehow travel to the past and change all this shit on the island
― cutty, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:50 (sixteen years ago)
Now that Jack is the new Jacob, Hurley, Sawyer & Kate are no longer candidates, right? Which means MIB can kill them (or doesn't need to.)
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:53 (sixteen years ago)
it's not like their flaws were partic unusual/distinctive
― long time listener, first time balla (history mayne), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:54 (sixteen years ago)
Are Keamy and Christian the only characters of note who are dead in both timelines? I don't think it means much, but I'm just trying to keep track.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 23:56 (sixteen years ago)
Frédéric Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Op. posth. 66 will be played at the concert. Faraday's concert.

It's probably too much to hope now that the Aquahotties will play a pivotal role in the alt timeline.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:09 (sixteen years ago)
I think "Aquahotties" may be ILX's greatest contribution to the Lost lexicon.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:29 (sixteen years ago)
still love "Wet Walt"
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:30 (sixteen years ago)
Remember that blog that was all "Hurley is the key, he's the only one who's not really flawed" or w/ev? I was kinda hoping he'd turn out to be the candidate that volunteers for the island job. Or at least that there'd be some discussion other than Jack's "yeah I'll do it" "ok".
Maybe this was some Lost promo after all:http://islandreefjob.com.au/about-the-best-job/
― Not the real Village People, Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:34 (sixteen years ago)
betting that jack volunteering is a red herring---I mean, doesn't that resolve one of the bigger mysteries pretty hastily and without much fanfare? no more candidates! now it's just about getting everyone else off alive!
think (hope) that something happens that traps an unwilling candidate (or candidates) as nu Jacob/mib. it'd be more interesting than dumb boring jack being Serious and it'd open up opporunities for sequels (not that that would be good/worthwhile, but I kinda like some open-endedness in my comic books).
― gbx, Thursday, 20 May 2010 00:49 (sixteen years ago)
I love the idea that Jack's neck is bleeding in the sideways timeline because he's about to get his throat slashed in the main one, but that might be wishful thinking on my part.

I am going to call serious Jack "Jackob"
― mh, Thursday, 20 May 2010 01:18 (sixteen years ago)
xps the way it happened so fast I figured it meant that Jack was obviously NOT really the new Jacob
― dmr, Thursday, 20 May 2010 01:18 (sixteen years ago)
the whole "kate your name was crossed out cause you became a mother" was such bullshit
kate your name was crossed out cause you are incapable of doing anything right

sun became a mother and that still hadn't DQd her as a candidate supposedly...
― shorty la forge (rahni), Thursday, 20 May 2010 02:19 (sixteen years ago)
Jacob is a moron.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 20 May 2010 02:21 (sixteen years ago)
Agree-- too-easy Jack volunteering for Jacobhood + Hurley obtrusively saying 'Just it glad it's not me' = shit will shake out so that it's hurley.
Anyway, I liked this ep. With that much Ben in it, I'm bound to be happy.
Strong evidence that Ben and Rousseau will hook up in the finale-- this somewhat lewd jello mold, did anyone else notice this thing?

motherfuckin CLIP SHOW. disgrace.
if lost pulled a clip show on you guys for the last episode the internet would BLOW UP.
A christmas special where the kids look forward to seeing Santa Claus and then the mother and father actually think they see the sleigh flying by at the end of the episode, after the kids go to bed, would be a sweet finale
