the preview including aaron and the blast door map is some wishful thinking on the preview creator's part.

if Richard is dead, man he and Sayid got swift and unceremonious dispatches. i'm so used to long string-drenched death scenes that these quick ones feel very odd and unreal. pretty good entertaining episode, though, feeling much better about the finale than I was a couple hours ago.

very interesting moments: Hurley asking Des about Ana Lucia and him saying "she's not ready yet", Jacob admitting that he was a fuckup, a clear line leading to all the 815'ers at the party in the alt. I'm kinda impressed that going into the finale I have no idea what is going to happen, but it seems clear that something will.

loved Desmond's beatdown of Ben, Ana Lucia's 30-second corrupt cop cameo, Zoe getting her throat slit. Ben had a ton of good lines also.

Oh god when Miles walked over Alex's grave I thought there was gonna be some "she says she always loved you Ben!!!!" stuff.

Sad that Widmore and Ben didn't get to do some more arguing.

ya i guess i'll always be sad we didn't see the great ben-widmore war play out more... but good to see bad ben back.

totally thought voice over girl was joanna newsom tbh

so who let Desmond out? what was the stupid deal with Widmore whispering the big Desmond secret to Locke only to have him go "o ya he's a failsafe" 10 mins later?

I thought I heard jack refer to Locke as Flocke in this episode. I ever rewound it, and it still sounded like flocke.

i liked the explanation for why the candidates were chosen. it explained why there were so many criminals on the plane.

the "it's just a line of chalk" line was pretty good too

I think my favourite aspect of the 'candidates' thing is the implication of how many others have come before and these were just a bunch of guys who fit the bill.

... but good to see bad ben back.

It was pretty satisfying that when Jacob finally agreed to tell the Losties why he picked them, the answer was that they were a bunch of losers.

I totally expected Ben to die last night, after that happy ending they gave him in the alt. But it's cool he's getting one last chance to pull one over on Smokey. My guess is that he'll try to learn Flocke's plan and then transmit it to Miles on the walkie.

I figure Ben is going to end up being the one to kill Smokey, possibly while also sacrificing himself. It just makes sense that he'd be the one to kill both Jacob and MiB.

Ben's motivation is weird now. I guess Flocke can just kill Ben whenever so would tell him his 'plan'. Bit disappointed that Widmore's (and presumably Alpert's?) deaths were so quick.

We are actually getting answers but they're dripping out in this way that makes you wonder why you ever cared at times, but still enjoyed this fairly fast-moving ep.

Funny that Pickett once said "Shephard wasn't even on Jacob's list" and that Mikhail told Kate, Sayid, and Locke that their being flawed was why they were NOT on the list.

I guess these were different lists, though. Did any of the Others ever actually communicate with Jacob in 2004?

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that there were a lot of different lists, too many conflicts and inconsistencies between them even before now.

Zoe was the one woah that was quick death I really enjoyed. Does this mean the talk of her being all over the finale was probably bull?

She could always show up at the Daniel Faraday concert.

funny to think back to mikhail and the dharma guy building the geodesic dome model and everyone else confidently doing their jobs in an organisation and being ruthless and killing people and confidently risking or sacrificing their own lives towards some secret about which they didn't actually know anything or had been lied to by someone who had probably been lied to by someone who had probably etc but maybe all of them thought they were telling the truth or it was like chinese whispers or like there secret was zero

so there's a light at the centre of the island that makes people into monsters. there a massive electromagnetic source too unrelated to the light or jacob didn't know there was any relation until the man in black had something metal when they were playing board games. the button (remember there was a button on a computer that people were pressing) released the electromagnetic energy so it wouldn't build up and make the sky purple and the wee counter show some hieroglyphics. so dharma made that computer after digging down to the magnetism and then shitting themselves and concreting it in wonder why they were digging down before they ended up shitting themselves

then jacob decided to make a hundred lists just of people names including one list all over the ceiling of a hard-to-get-to cave in case he forgot wonder where he got the chalk from

1) Christian's body and how MIB went about using it (e.g. finding the coffin and burying the original corpse so Jack wouldn't find it? or perhaps Jacob did this)
2) How Jacob was able to leave the island (it would be cool to see him prevent MIB from using the wheel somehow only to start using it himself - or maybe he just took his own sub)
3) How Jacob first identified and learned about his candidates (googling 'loser' via his Lighthouse coconut internet telescope?)
4) Why Jack's cut is happening
5) Who did the smokemonster carving in the Temple - was it Smokey himself or the temple-builders, having encountered Smokey in some way (an earlier version of Smokey, caused by the same light cave)
6) The CABIN ffs why was Jacob using it, why he stopped, who broke the ash

the airline finding Christian's coffin in the flash sideways seemed like an indication that they're gonna come back to that in some big way in the finale (and tbh i probably wouldn't even be thinking about Christian's body right now if they hadn't drawn attention to it last night).

there are no answers to any of those questions, there is a light, the candidates are flawed, desmond is a failsafe. those are your answers.
