we're using "Northern Sky" by Nick Drake as our first dance and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" by Boston as the closer. I gave the DJ a list of all songs that must be played. We chose only songs from the 20's to the 70's. We refused all electric slide and chicken dance crapola. Although I did get a huge amount of shit from the fiance for trying to sneak some Teddy Pendergrass on the request list.

"I Love You (Listent to This)" by Dexy's, natch. And maybe "Come Together" by Primal Scream during the reception.

I like this, because it's a real live dilemma that me and Miss Julia are facing just now! Ideally I would like "Into your arms" by Nick Cave, because it's lovely but unfortunately not very danceable. Then there's "It must be love" which you can't really slow dance to. I had a look through the old threads, nothing really stands out. I like the "Northern Sky" suggestion, hmmm. Keep them coming, please, I need inspiration!! It's important!

"Into my arms" I meant. oops.

The theme from Steptoe and Son ("Old Ned" by David Granger, I believe)

Chris Knox-"Not Given Lightly" at the ceremony
Mystikal-"Shake Ya Ass" at the reception

"Girl After Girl" by Troy Shondell. That would be to remind all my unmarried friends that getting around can be an inferior choice. I wouldn't play anything to do with love because I can't imagine any song being adequate. And if there was an adequate piece of music, it would drive you insane so what would be the point.

I second the nomination of The Carpenters' 'We've Only Just Begun.' I don't see how one could consider anything else.

Hang on. Perhaps for the last dance, which I seem to recall is a big event, 'The Look of Love' by Isaac Hayes.

'Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?' = Yes, about three hours ago - when we got married - dolt!

I still can't talk about the dj at my wedding, the urge to hunt to hunt him down and kick him grows too powerful.

What exactly did this non-paragon play, anyway? At least name one of the horrors!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Stuff from the forties, I can't even recall what exactly. But I had spoken with him before and he seemed cool, and familiar with the kind of stuff I had written down. But he played virtually none of it, and stuck to super oldies. I mean, Abba would have been very contemporary on this playlist.

"Feel The Need In Me" - The Detroit Emeralds(?)

Oh dear. So all the older relatives were happy and everyone else just wanted to know when the audio track for the Time-Life Library commercials was going to end...

It sounds like my kinda wedding.

Firstly congrats to Mistopher Christopher. And Julia.

After tons of arguing about stuff (I wanted My Wandering Days are Over by B&S or You Don't Have to Say You Love Me by Dusty, he wanted Never Tear Us Apart by INXS) we had the Wonder of You by Elvis. It was great.

Last two weddings I was at, they had Come What May(?) by Nicole Kidmand and Ewan McGregor, and Fields of Gold by Sting. ours was better.

I went to a wedding once where they had If You Need Someone by the Field Mice. She walked down the aisle to Primitive Painters by Felt. That was lovely. If I hadn;t done the whole church thing..

five years pass...

so a close friend has asked me to make her a mixtape in lieu of getting her the standard wedding present

prob cause she knows my taste in gifts is crap but maybe also cause i've made her a couple before and she's liked them

lol except now this one feels IMPORTANT and i am nervous about my selection

I like the idea of "I fall with your knife" by Pete Murphy I must say. I dunno though, to me you pick something spesh to yrselves so for us it'd be "Lets Just See" by Engineers but hem thats not exactly a dancy track. Knowing my other half he'd want some Autechre track >:-/
