Thankfully, the buses I ride most are never that crowded. Hell, the 2 and 6 southbound are mostly empty almost every time.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I ride the Division bus to work and it's almost always completely insane.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 15:31 (twenty years ago)

the 66 bus is the worst bus ever in terms of crowding. the #50 damen bus had the worst rating for any line in the cta last year as far as being on time. i've always hated that bus.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 May 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

The 6 northbound was super busy today.

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 4 May 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

i take the western bus south to the western/congress blue line stop. the bus is crazy full of people when it stops at division but they all get off as it's mostly kids and teachers going to roberto clemente high. then the bus gets crazy full of people again at chicago. but i don't care 'cause i have a seat!

I just bought a bass drum off ebay for TWELVE DOLLARS (plus S&H). Very exciting.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know the origin of the phrase "...like whoah"? I always assumed it was from that track on the Blueprint, but don't really know.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:11 (twenty years ago)

That makes sense.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Until I saw 'Fast Times' a few weeks ago, I never put it together that 'tubular' refers to surfing inside the curl.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what you mean ... is it considered a discrete phrase? I don't really know this song that well, but:

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:22 (twenty years ago)

You know, like "I changed that tire like whoah", or "my brain hurts like whoah", or "back up in this bitch like whoah".

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I've never heard that outside of the Mya song. Which, like I said, I don't even know that well.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I hear people say it all too often.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps it is a cheesehead thing.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

No, there was an older song, by some rapper, i want to say Black Rob, that was called "Whoah," where every line ended with "like whoah" and that was the first time I remember hearing it, though it obv existed as a slang term before then probably. It was a Puff Daddy-produced song.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah! I remember that! Nick so smaht. That wasn't that long ago, though, maybe 5 years ago?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:04 (twenty years ago)

"Black Rob"? You're making this up.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

Nope. I was working at a music store at the time and there was a guy who worked there named Rob and we called him Black Rob for a while. MEMORIES!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:06 (twenty years ago)

It was around the time that DMX was huge. Everyone was shouting a lot.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Whatever happened to that guy, anyway? Wasn't he covered in blood on one of his album covers?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

WHAT

I made out to DMX the other night for a friend's art project. Good times.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

You made out to DMX "for an art project"?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

i remember that song

xp wtf Dan

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

WHOAH INDEED.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

ALL MY RUFF RIIIDE-ERS

Oh man, make it stop.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

It was Black Rob, I just looked it up. That was a catchy song.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

always willing to support the arts, eh dan?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's complicated. All will (should) be revealed if you come to the big show I've been pimping off and on on the thread for the past couple weeks... But if you really want the story I'll spill it. It's not really that interesting.

xpost: It's a rough job, but someone has to do it. Actually, more like 9 people.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

SPILL

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Black Rob's "Whoa!" was released in 2000, BTW.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

"ORGYING FOR ART",
BY
THE DAN

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Seriously. Spill it. I know that I'm not going to make it to this art show, so you might as well tell us now.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:12 (twenty years ago)

yeah same here.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Ah, that makes sense. 2000 was a musical black hole for me -- unless your name was Blonde Redhead, Yo La Tengo, Mouse on Mars, Stereolab, Dirty Three, Tara Jane O'Neil, etc.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't really remember DMX, either.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Those would be weird names for a person to have.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:16 (twenty years ago)

OK. here goes:

So, some of you (maybe just J.) have met my friend Erica, who is about to graduate from SAIC. She is having a big fancypants final show with some other girls tomorrow (http://www.myspace.com/tha_golden_girls). So, one of the other girls, who I had met a few times, is doing this project focusing on (as I understand it) how she is not attracted to white men. Don't ask me about how art works... Anyway, I, as a white man, was asked to be a part of this project, which involves her making out with various other white dudes (not at the same time) and taping it, then editing some sort of short film out of it. It was apparently a big deal that I was in it, because all the other guys were "skinny, pasty, wimpy art boys" (paraphrased) and I am not any of those things besides pasty. DMX is part of the soundtrack and Grace Jones is involved somehow, that's all I know.

It was pretty fun. She's a nice person.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Has it occurred to anyone else that I spend the majority of my time with you guys (CHILXors) justifying why I know or don't know something?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:17 (twenty years ago)

It was pretty fun.

duh.

She's a nice person.

sounds like it.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:18 (twenty years ago)

If it helps, man, I never heard that song either. I have, however, heard of Black Rob.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:18 (twenty years ago)

That's...interesting, Dan.

(fucking art school)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:18 (twenty years ago)

is about to graduate from SAIC

How could this not be part of the equation? Sounds fun! NSFW!

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I remember thinking your friend Erica was attractive.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Has it occurred to anyone else that I spend the majority of my time with you guys (CHILXors) justifying why I know or don't know something?

J., this isn't unrelated to that moment when you started getting some action and switched from talking about not getting any action to talking about not getting any hard drugs.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

I AM NOT ATTRACTED TO YOU

PLS MAKE OUT WITH ME

DMX WILL BE THERE

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

(sorry Dan, making out with weird art girls does sound fun)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

J., this isn't unrelated to that moment when you started getting some action and switched from talking about not getting any action to talking about not getting any hard drugs.

i.e. INSECURITY??

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

I remember thinking your friend Erica was attractive.

Just don't call her "exotic" -- KISS OF DEATH FOR ALL SUITORS
