At least they referred back to the baby snatching stuff in this episode, with CJ stealing tykes and stoning mommy. Maybe the Others did it in some perverse imitation of their gods.

i'm definitely holding out hope that we'll get some kind of satisfactory explanation of what Widmore and Hawking know and how they know it.

but man, this show probably should've embraced its Twin Peaks WTF factor more to at least make all of these loose ends a little more wacky or fun or artsy.

they ought to have made much more clear, though, what the consequences of MIB/smoky escaping would be, what widmore wants with the island, etc.

In fairness they have not really gone for 'OMG who does Kate love?' thing in this series. Although it'll probably reappear at the end.

There's load of wee untidy things that at this point we just have to accept - like Widmore somehow knows more of the island mythology than Ben/Others/Dharma

They have got to address this is some way, surely? I feel like it all ties into what happened after the hydrogen bomb blast, what the deal is with the alt-timeline, why one island is underwater, why Widmore/Ellie were so desperate to get both Faraday and Desmond to the island, etc. It's the biggest unexplained element to the story and considering they've devoted at least 50% of the season to it they're going to have to resolve all that in the last couple of episodes.

I still like the idea of Desmond ending up in 1977 and kicking off some kind of Widmore long-con that ultimately destroys the island.

Is anyone going to one of these finale viewing parties? Seems like a lot of cities are having them--Though I haven't heard of any in Philly :(

Tried to organize one in Toronto, gave up, sticking 12 of my closest Lostheads in my apartment instead.

I don't actually have proper TV so I'm wondering what to do about the finale - watching it a few hours later, with my husband who doesn't know what's going on, seems a bit depressing.

Ideally I'd like a nice viewing party where everyone drinks and SHUTS THE HELL UP, apart from the odd zing. But I reckon in a bar it would be ridiculous.

I've got an early flight the next day so I could take laptop with me on holiday purely so I can watch the finale on the way but that seems silly. Staying up all night is an alternative.

Two of my friends are going to be *in Hawaii* but they've only just started watching Lost box sets.

I only know of about four Londoners who still watch lost (I'm including people on this thread in that), did consider inviting them/you all round for the finale but Claire's got an exam the next morning and I'd probably just get pissy at anyone who spoke during it anyway.

that was literally the whole genesis of the show, an ABC exec saying hey what if we did a scripted show that was like Survivor. xpost

in fact maybe that's the greatest evidence that narrowing down the castaways to one final candidate really WAS always the plan haha

oh i know, totally. when it came down to a "list of candidates" i noticed that too... wait a second

just love the idea that people were expecting survivor-style antics and not like, time travel and shit

i might've ever watched Survivor if they started throwing polar bears and mysterious hatches into the mix as soon as ratings dropped off

I was talking to this really sweet couple last week who'd never seen Lost. My husband mentioned that I kind of loved it and they were like "isn't it just like Castaway?" When I told them there was time travel and a physics nerd they were like WOAH

Having thought a bit more about last week's episode, I have a feeling the season is not about whittling it down to the final candidate at all.

Congratulations on pulling off an amazing show. Don't tell anyone ... but when 'Star Wars' first came out, I didn't know where it was going either. The trick is to pretend you've planned the whole thing out in advance. Throw in some father issues and references to other stories -- let's call them homages -- and you've got a series.

Given the direction that George Lucas eventually took Star Wars, that's definitely damning with faint praise there.

but in star wars, besides the "i'm your father" reveal, we knew who the bad guys were within 10 minutes of the first film. we still don't know who is bad in lost.

what i meant was, besides that surprise of darth being luke's father, there was not much left to be figured out by the audience

What is this Force? Where does it come from? Who put the Jedi in charge? Have they been kidnapping all these younglings with high levels of midichlorians? How do they find them and how come they didn't find Walt Anakin when he was younger? Isn't the Empire right to attempt to free the galaxy from the control of these unelected self-appointed minders?

yeah, the big reveal to the lingering question that hung over the original series, of why all the main characters' midichlorians levels were so high, was pretty astonishing, especially after all taht time

I guess this makes Lost the telvision counterpart to the Phantom Menace trilogy, bad writing and all.

I'm trying to figure out which season of lost corresponds with which star wars movie, but I don't think this analogy really works
