Wow it's like Walt is just addicted to lying.

The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Friday, 14 May 2010 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

good ep...i guess walt is safe for now.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Saturday, 15 May 2010 08:56 (sixteen years ago)

totally kafkaesque... majorly

Billy Crystals (another al3x), Monday, 17 May 2010 02:32 (sixteen years ago)

i loved the moment where they both leaned in to hear skyler's story of WALT GAMBLOR THE MASTER GAMBLER

forksclovetofu, Monday, 17 May 2010 03:57 (sixteen years ago)

Yes!

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 17 May 2010 04:23 (sixteen years ago)

yeah that was hilarious

scene with Badger and Skinny Pete at the recovery meeting was evil!

Nhex, Monday, 17 May 2010 04:33 (sixteen years ago)

"stay strong bro"

forksclovetofu, Monday, 17 May 2010 13:20 (sixteen years ago)

Sober Jesse's way more petulant and downright nasty than fucked-up Jesse, huh?

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 17 May 2010 14:36 (sixteen years ago)

felt like a callout to the dickensian aspect, which made it funnier if anything.

s.clover, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:48 (sixteen years ago)

getting bored with jesse

jeff, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:58 (sixteen years ago)

Jesse just seems so completely fucking dumb. Like what tiny amount of cash is he going to make selling meth to his rehab group?

Really like the writing and acting for the rehab therapist dude...

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:34 (sixteen years ago)

He kind of makes me think of Sam Shepherd.

This ep was phenomenal.. Walt has been waiting months and months to hear Skyler say what she said to Marie about him.

Agreed about Jesse being a complete fucking imbecile. I guess getting clean and becoming "the bad guy" didn't result in an automatic brains upgrade. He is sooooo going to fuck things up. I wonder if Walt is going to have to choose... between Jesse and Gus.

The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 09:33 (sixteen years ago)

selling meth out of his house isn't about the cash for jessie, it's about engaging in self-destructive, i am important behavior

the first thing jessie did this season was to get out of rehab, buy his parents house and kick them out. so yeah, he's moved into shepherd cartoon world.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 12:57 (sixteen years ago)

O'Possum: why do they gotta go changing everything?

in movie 2001 resurrect thread on planet jupiter (Pillbox), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:49 (sixteen years ago)

Great episode! I usually hate the idea of set pieces and studies of character psyche, but this was brilliant.

Dan I., Monday, 24 May 2010 06:27 (sixteen years ago)

directed by Rian Johnson (Brick/Brothers Bloom). Great episode, atypical without being too showy.

Simon H., Monday, 24 May 2010 07:41 (sixteen years ago)

good episode, I though, tho opinion seems mixed

cozen, Monday, 24 May 2010 11:14 (sixteen years ago)

i was way tired and kinda drunk and nodded off at some point in this ep. half hour of fly swatting seemed pretty dud though. will give it another run tonight.

like a guttenberg, strong with your mane (another al3x), Monday, 24 May 2010 14:22 (sixteen years ago)

interesting ep. i could have done without all the random camera tricks.
i did like how they toyed with us - making us think Walter was going to spill the beans about watching chicky die.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 24 May 2010 18:13 (sixteen years ago)

was sort of frustratingly low on plot but a decent episode i guess, i found walt's descent into being mental a bit sudden and disconnected from how he's been in previous ep.

i enjoyed this ep but i dunno...it makes me worry a bit for the future of the show for some reason.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 24 May 2010 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

this ep would probably work better if you were just plowing through the season on dvd but as far as my only breaking bad ep for the week, it was disappointing and now i am sad

jeff, Monday, 24 May 2010 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

otm....after that terrible lost finale this wasn't the ep you wanted to see!

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 24 May 2010 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

I thought it was brilliant episode! After a string of very fraught and eventful episodes it was really great to settle into a groove of Walt/Jesse interaction. And by the end, I was feeling genuine tension over whether or not they were going to get the fly. Remember we're about to hit the final three eps, and I think this provided a deliberate low-key breather before whatever the climax is going to bring us (not that it wasn't fairly intense in its own way). This show is the king of pacing.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 24 May 2010 23:50 (sixteen years ago)

Also it offered a chance to thoroughly take stock of the two leads' current mental states.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 24 May 2010 23:52 (sixteen years ago)

I thought they earned this episode. Needed a breather anyway.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 02:19 (sixteen years ago)

eh, i thought the last episode gave us plenty of time to catch our breath. i understand they're just trying to demonstrate walt's guilt-driven existential crisis, but did they have to shut down plot progression for the entire hour? also yeah camera tricks blargh - why do i need to see a shoe being tossed up at the fly from the fly's perspective? so i can empathize with the fly? also, the facial flyswatting three stooges routine was unforgivably corny. unforgivably!

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 02:26 (sixteen years ago)

the fly represents the ungraspable moment, yadda yadda yadda

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 03:02 (sixteen years ago)

I forgave it.

Jouster, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 05:22 (sixteen years ago)

The fly represents Walt getting comically exasperated.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

this was great ya'll fkn crazy.

Gee, Officer (Gukbe), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

I liked it. Good snapshot into what's going on in Walt's mind.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

i thought the fly might actually be gus's "bug" cuz of the magnifying glass shots of it at the beginning and then walt bringing it up at the end regarding jesse stealing. good episode tho

( `ハ´)☞ ☜(´∀`☜) (am0n), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

Fucking awesome.

A lot of shows have low-budg episodes and this was it. Just two actors and a room. Wow. Hilarious too.

The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 21:58 (sixteen years ago)

tried again and it was decent. think i dozed off before any of the jane stuff last time, which was good. kinda wanna go back and watch the scene with walt + jane's dad again now. also loved walt's "there must be some combination of words" line of thinking.

were they were deliberately recalling those major pieces of last season to set up the final few eps? really hope chap is right on the pacing there, but i'm worried like garda (xposts) -- the fly gimmick was stretched and the last two eps have felt drained of narrative tension compared to the first half of the season.

like a guttenberg, strong with your mane (another al3x), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 18:09 (sixteen years ago)

i thought the fly might actually be gus's "bug"

was the last shot implying walt thought that also?

like a guttenberg, strong with your mane (another al3x), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

very slow ep, understand why people wouldn't like it. but i forgave it for some really juicy monologue portions and the need for a breather ep before the final stretch

Nhex, Thursday, 27 May 2010 00:20 (sixteen years ago)

also yeah, how random was it that rian johnson directed this, probably explains all the funky camera angles

Nhex, Thursday, 27 May 2010 00:21 (sixteen years ago)

i thought the last shot was to indicate that walt's cancer is spreading because the fly wasn't actually there right? i thought it was fantastic. walt's been semi-oblivious or in denial about the path of destruction he's created and when he was loosened up by the sleeping pills he seemed to reacquaint himself with the idea of being human.

keythhtyek, Thursday, 27 May 2010 02:55 (sixteen years ago)

cancer relapse would draw skyler back in...

like a guttenberg, strong with your mane (another al3x), Thursday, 27 May 2010 03:20 (sixteen years ago)

I'd actually be kind of annoyed if that happens, would seem like a huge step backward narratively - the kind of wishy-washy plot stuff you'd expect from lesser TV dramas to keep it going. Gilligan said last year he was still on track to end the show at season 4.

Nhex, Thursday, 27 May 2010 04:37 (sixteen years ago)

"Yo we're making meth here, not space shuttles"

The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 27 May 2010 12:47 (sixteen years ago)

The cancer reappearing is kind of what Walt wants at this point, and Gilligan has made the point several times that the writers aren't going to let him off that easily.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 27 May 2010 12:58 (sixteen years ago)

I love when Jesse goes on about the Discovery Channel, Hyenas licking each other's junk etc. Episode was kind of annoying me initially but once i realized it was gonna be one of those set-piece affairs i enjoyed it more.

Number None, Friday, 28 May 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

Awesome episode. Esp. loved Saul/Skyler meeting.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 31 May 2010 14:32 (sixteen years ago)

yeah so funny. loved walter going to dinner with gus too, like they are best buds or something!
