kind of amazed at how highly the fan/recap sites seem to be rating this episode

some dude, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

jacob/MIB/mom = worst deux ex machina ever in fictional serialized drama in popular culture. not hyperbole in the slightest.

Still really struggling to understand people's problems here. I guess after all these years I still don't get the internet.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

well, what's GOOD about it? i mean was there any point in the episode where you thought "that's a clever way to tie that together" or "that's a big surprise" or "that satisfied my curiosity"?

Seriously. I guess that people can convince themselves of anything. Some serious WWII Germany parallels, here, in the Lost fanbase.

winnebago taco, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

president keyes i'm struggling to understand your appreciation of this steaming pile of shit we were presented with last night

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

still don't get why the island or the light or whatever wanted MIB to leave the island. if he had never seen his dead mom he would have stayed with fake mom forever probably. and i gotta think that the island is the force that allows people to see dead people. this is turning into m. nightmare shamalama territory.

am i supposed to think that it was the "evil" part of the light that turned MIB against his family?

scott seward, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

if the adam & eve skeletons were meant to prove they had a plan all along they failed miserably.

abanana, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

my first thought last night was: i can't BELIEVE this is one of the last episodes of this show.

scott seward, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

i mean, which of these revelations do you appreciate the most?

the island is protecting an incredibly vague "light" entity that is everything and nothing imaginable.

stick a wooden wheel in the light and shit happens.

smokey is a truly sympathetic character has every reason to want to leave the island.

adam & eve are smokey and his fake crazy mom.

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:29 (sixteen years ago)

we already knew about the island's crazy energy. we knew about the wheel. we knew smokey was tortured. so that leaves the skeletons. big whoop.

scott seward, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:32 (sixteen years ago)

Related questions, in the wake of last night's shit-a-thon;

How was Jacob getting off of the island to fuck with the 815ers off-island lives? And, for that matter, how the FUCK was he getting back? And who was holding down the fort when he was gone? Shouldn't Smokenstein have been able to peace out, as soon as Jacob was gone?

Jesus, this show.

seriously -- it was a character not mentioned until halfway through season 3, and a character not introduced until the end of season 6! feels like they planned it out well to me!

some dude, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:41 (sixteen years ago)

this show is making a good argument for why complicated sci-fi/fantasy epics are usually created by one obsessive writer/auteur with a vision and not built up by committee by dozens of people just trying to put on a show from week to week.

some dude, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

I never read it (I never followed much of the non-show-related ephemera), but wasn't there a spin-off book called "Bad Twin" all the way back in Season 1?

Becky Facelift, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

yeah if they dont explain why or how jacob can go off-island before the end of the show thats just bad writing at this point tbh xposts

Samhain 69 (jjjusten), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

not only can he go off-island, he has no problem integrating into modern society as opposed to some savage & fruity lord of the rings kid

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

WHAT IS BOAT?

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

also getting a real original sin angle here re: people are bad, jacob u r the innocent moppet, gotta get us some born on the island babies which is making me v v wary about any further explanations of the magical light in the ground.

Samhain 69 (jjjusten), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

Seems to be some division on whether or not Smokey is actually an entity that predates MiB or if he's actually the unbodied spirit of MiB. If he's the former, he probably needs to be confined there for some reason, but if he's the latter, I hope he fucking kills everyone and finally gets off the island...because that dude got a raw deal from all ends.

i was thinking other peeps like dharma or whatever found various was to exploit the island's powers through new technologies and shit

Aerosol, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

smokey just wants to buy an ipad, ride a bike, go to the cinema

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

Well, the donkey wheel got built by someone at some point. Seems a little crude to be a Dharma action, though.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

I like how this episode was all about "Jacob, the messiah figure/person with all the answers that Jack and Locke and Ben (and others) have been pursuing as the answer to all their problems for the past several seasons, is actually kind of a moron." I'm glad the LOST creators are cruel enough to do this.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

sure some other dudes came along before dharma and messed around with crap xp

Aerosol, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i'm sure the mother finished building the wheel in between bashing MIBs head against the wall and killing the villagers and filling the well up

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

why not? chick has some chops

Aerosol, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

yeah she's good at the loom and bashing peoples heads with rocks

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

so basically the island because some homicidal woman alone on a island introduced in the second to last episode says so

island better be a spaceship

sir gaga (s1ocki), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:29 (sixteen years ago)

i was really hoping for some magnetic incident, similar to what we saw with desmond in his episode, which turns titus into smokey. was this too much to ask? i mean i thought this show was about how magnets work. now it's about light.

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

cause when the light hits the water...

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 16:32 (sixteen years ago)

who are some of the past season characters they haven't shown this season

Dogen's magic baseball was holding down the fort I think.

walt
be-a-clue
juliet's sister
annie (i figured the reason they never did a ben/annie episode was to avoid the mistakes of the phantom menace. i guess not, after this ep)

abanana, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 17:15 (sixteen years ago)

i can't wait until the series is long over and some of the writers start speaking out about how ridiculous their jobs were

cutty, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

I bet the writing staff is simply the first five homeless guys who asked Lindelof for "a little help" one day.

not to force the issue, but i really don't understand how anyone can still be on the fence about this, unless they basically would accept nothing less than a long lingering shot of MIB's body dissolving into black smoke, which they all but stopped short of doing.

some dude, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

if his body dissolved into black smoke, what's that thing that jacob buried with octomom?
