Totally agree.

well . . . yeah. if the habs win, i'll definitely be rooting for them the rest of the way.

One of the reasons I'm sad to see VAN gonezo. however I am 100% interested in watching the hawks. That series was confusing for me, emotionally.

If those guys in the green were sitting near me at a playoff game I just spent $400 apiece for, they would be leaving the arena feet first.

Go Hawks

Exactly!

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 21:03 (sixteen years ago)

It's gonna be interesting to see how the Euro-style Hawks deal with San Jose.

lol @ pens

johnny crunch, Thursday, 13 May 2010 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

ugh

mookieproof, Thursday, 13 May 2010 00:12 (sixteen years ago)

the question is how nabokov deals w/ euro style hockey

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 13 May 2010 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

The question is whether the guys in green show up in either Chicago or San Jose to continue their streak of making utter fools of themselves.

Does the fact the Pens lost mean that Sports Illustrated doesnt get to write its 19th article of the year on Sidney Crosby? I bet it doesnt.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

Montreal fans behaved last night... only 4 shops looted.

yes, vive les habs!!

If you can believe your eyes and ears (outdoor_miner), Thursday, 13 May 2010 17:15 (sixteen years ago)

Im rooting hard for whoever is the West representative, hopefully the Hawks.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 17:17 (sixteen years ago)

go habs . . . but i think this might be the year san jose breaks through

mookieproof, Thursday, 13 May 2010 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I meant '93.

I will be so disappointed if it's the Sharkies.

I will be fucking pumped.

I don't know what it is, but there's something about teams that didn't exist when I was a young hockey fan winning the Cup that is disturbing. Age, probably, but I felt that way even when like the Stars/Avs were winning shit.

he takes the account of everything in the universe into consideration (dan m), Thursday, 13 May 2010 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

the sharks do seem like the team to beat

and it's just hard to get behind Hossa, great though he is, if he's not on your team, imo. sorry Chicago

"I don't know what it is, but there's something about teams that didn't exist when I was a young hockey fan winning the Cup that is disturbing. Age, probably, but I felt that way even when like the Stars/Avs were winning shit."

The Stars have been in the league since '67, and the Avs since '79. Watching Colorado win those cups didn't bother me because they were a "new" team, but because the groundwork for those victories, the first one in particular, was laid while they were still in Quebec.

I'm looking forward to the Western final, and I hope the Hawks make it through. Pretty indifferent with regards to the East. I wish I were more excited about Montreal, but I'm not.

Transfer at Yonge for Union station (j-rock), Thursday, 13 May 2010 19:55 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I realize the Stars and Avs have previous history but they were still "new" as in rebranded for new markets, and I remember both moves being painful/controversial (esp. Minnesota) when they happened.

Watching Colorado win Cups bothered me because I HATED them, esp Lemieux of course.

he takes the account of everything in the universe into consideration (dan m), Thursday, 13 May 2010 20:23 (sixteen years ago)

I still use the alternate jerseys when I play the EA sports NHL games. I hope that Winnipeg gets their team back one day. But that might have to wait until Bettman's reign of terror comes to an end. And Lemieux was a bastard, unless he was on your team of course, but he always showed up for big games.

mookieproof, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:06 (sixteen years ago)

I always liked Claude Lemieux for some reason. Dude somehow managed to be one of the great playoff players of his era despite just being an ok regular season player. And a guy who makes so many hockey fans angry must be doing something right.

peter in montreal, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:13 (sixteen years ago)

Please dont get me started on Claude Lemieux, the definition of a clutch player who could play for my team any day.

"Watching Colorado win Cups bothered me because I HATED them, esp Lemieux of course."

So you rooted for the Devils when they played the Avs in the Cup finals? I thought you hated the Devils.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

I hate them both, but honestly I hate the Avs more. Lemieux may be "clutch" but there are a lot of players out there who are clutch who were never as dirty as him.

he takes the account of everything in the universe into consideration (dan m), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

the guy whose face Lemieux smashed in for example

he takes the account of everything in the universe into consideration (dan m), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:40 (sixteen years ago)

but the guy with the smashed face cant hold a candle to Lemieux.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:46 (sixteen years ago)

Lemieux: NHL totals GP-1215 G-379 A-407 PTS-786 PIM-1777

Draper: NHL totals GP-1110 G-155 A-198 PTS-353 PIM-778

Game, set, match to guy without the smashed face.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

Playoffs:

Lemieux: 234 80 78 158 529

Draper: 202 24 21 45 142

Dude, 45 points in the playoffs for your career is clutch?

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

??? ok so this is about stats now, I thought it was about clutch play. They play different positions and have completely different styles. Draper wins faceoffs and kills penalties, Lemieux dove and started shit. Your team can have him.

Thanks, I'll take Lemieux, you can have Mr. Clutch.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:54 (sixteen years ago)

How many game winning goals has Lemieux scored in the Stanley Cup Finals?

he takes the account of everything in the universe into consideration (dan m), Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:54 (sixteen years ago)

Good question, he's got 80 playoff goals though, and 5 Stanley Cups, so Im sure hes got at least one!

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

Claude Lemieux: "His 19 game-winning goals in the playoffs puts him in second place on the NHL's all-time list behind Wayne Gretzky, who had 24, and one ahead of Maurice Richard."

That's clutch.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 13 May 2010 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

I say we make them fight, then.

he takes the account of everything in the universe into consideration (dan m), Thursday, 13 May 2010 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

Claude L. always put me in the mind of Esa Tikkanen, another pest that had clutch playoffs

epic choke bruins

johnny crunch, Saturday, 15 May 2010 01:53 (sixteen years ago)

HAS to be considered the biggest playoff series choke ever, in any sport. I'd like to see how many home teams have ever coughed up a 3-goal lead in a Game 7, I'm betting not many.

A big Nelson Muntz laugh to the B's.
