I'm going to the midnight showing this Friday. I would bet I've paid to see worse things.

feel sorry for those paying 2 see it in a theater

i feel worse for the actresses playing the middle and end segments.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

whatever they were paid, it couldn't be enough.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:00 (sixteen years ago)

I kind of don't get why people are having *such* a strong negative reaction to this movie. I mean, it's clearly meant to be shocking and all that, but I know two people who are pretty inured to grossness and shocking films, but who have said they will not be seeing this one.

I'm pretty sure that the concept of a human centipede as fodder for humor is far more interesting than the movie, so it's probably good that not too many of my friends will see it. The jokes and references can continue, and maybe I can offer some new perspectives, but we won't tire of it as soon.

fabulous mussels (Jesse), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:09 (sixteen years ago)

i mentioned my reasons upthread. i think this movie concept goes beyond the pale. reasonable minds can disagree, i guess. it's definitely good fodder for humor, tho!

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:22 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know. Like I said, I watched it last night and it didn't bother me that much. I don't get that freaked out by things that are highly unlikely to happen irl. I am much more disturbed by good psychological thriller type things than grotesque horror.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:24 (sixteen years ago)

You know, I think I've become a little desensitized to human centipedism since my friends and I have spent a lot of time talking and joking about it. On the other hand, I don't think I will ever watch Hostel or any more Saw movies even though I have heard quite a bit about them.

I think that The HC has a hook that the Hostel doesn't.

idk. do you see the sutures that stitch the bodies together? seeing that would horrify me.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:34 (sixteen years ago)

spend less time in the Human Centipede thread then?

Ebert has a go

That review contains a lot of what I like about Ebert.

The diagram is hilarious.

<3 Ebert. He's totally spot on with that review.

Dieter Laser, who plays Dr. Heiter, takes the role with relentless sincerity. This is his 63rd acting role, but, poor guy, is seemingly the one he was born to play.

Haven't seen Mr. Laser (great real name btw) in any of the other 62 films but he was so perfect in this role it's hard to imagine him as anything other than a batshit insane eveil doktor.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Thursday, 6 May 2010 11:42 (sixteen years ago)

err "evil" not eveil although perhaps that's some next level stuff

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Thursday, 6 May 2010 11:44 (sixteen years ago)

I am required to award stars to movies I review. This time, I refuse to do it. The star rating system is unsuited to this film. Is the movie good? Is it bad? Does it matter? It is what it is and occupies a world where the stars don't shine.

lol

first turn of phrase I've liked of Ebert's in ages.

Tom Six, a Dutch director whose previous two films average 4 out of 10 on the IMDb.com scale, which is a score so low very few directors attain it

4/10 seems like a sub-par, but almost average, score to me.

imdb.com must have a different, not-so-intuitive ratings scale?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:43 (sixteen years ago)

i was rewatching the trailer for this and i noticed in the clip where the girl locks herself in dude's bedroom - there's a picture next to the lamp of what appears to be two dogs standing nose-to-ass! can't tell if they're stitched together or not tho.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:45 (sixteen years ago)

***errr spoiler, I guess***

They are. He made a dog centipede out of his Rottweilers before attempting it out on humans.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

so does the dog centipede spend any time running around in the movie? because I am not sure how you would train dogs to do that

it means "EMOTIONAL"! (HI DERE), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:58 (sixteen years ago)

No. You learn early on that the dog centipede, or "three dog" as he calls it, is dead.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Thursday, 6 May 2010 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

you don't need to train a dog, you just need to train a dog centipede xp

When seeking funding for the film, Tom Six did not initially let on that the victims of The Human Centipede would be joined by mouth to anus, fearing that it would put off potential investors, and his backers did not find out the exact details of the film until it had been completed.[9] Additionally, the actors themselves were not presented with a completed script prior to signing onto the film, instead only being given an outline of the film's storyboard.[15]

Those poor poor bastards.

But on a lighter note, if a dog centipede cocks its leg, what happens?

Additionally, the actors themselves were not presented with a completed script prior to signing onto the film, instead only being given an outline of the film's storyboard

what else could the actors have thought the film was about, between the title and the storyboards?

In that movie, David Hume praises the game "Centipede" for decentralizing notions of uniformity in nature.
