while wearing headphones? one way to reach a pb i guess...

The Books and Stereolab are suprisingly fun to run too. Also like Fuck Buttons.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 16:53 (sixteen years ago)
without it being competitive, running with others was completely different, and fun.

Haven't been running since my knee was hurting pretty bad over the past couple of weeks. Signed up for a 5k (with Jeff and Jesse and others) yesterday since my knee has been feeling better but might regret it; I jogged across the street yesterday to get to the mailbox and could immediately feel it in my knee again :/
I stopped running with music because the physical feeling of the headphones and the cord was distracting to me.

i like jumped up disco/rawk stuff to ge me going, but really blissy balearic/housey/techno/rnb kinda stuff once im in the zone.

I can totally see stereolab being awesome while running. I need to start running with music! Is there a thread about running/exercising playlists?
― peacocks, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 17:16 (sixteen years ago)
n/a rest, cycle. you'll be good for 5k, it's more to avoid too much pain afterwards.
I like my clear head running w/out music, I feel lighter. But if I ran somewhere busier I might jam tunes more often.
― ogmor, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)
when i was running in rural iowa i felt like an idiot listening to music while running. there were so many other sounds to listen to, birds and whatnot. it's definitely better in the city

Agreed, re The Books, at least.
I run to newer Radiohead a lot. Also In Utero and lately to Former Ghosts and now The Antlers.

Five miles in 0:58 for me last night. Tried to go a bit faster, but it's tough to do with a dim headlamp on a twisty, rocky, hilly trail in the woods. Great run, though. Need to do more night running!

Brenda Thurman said Tuesday that the man she knew was quiet and claimed to work on Wall Street."He would wear all black and jog at night. He said he didn't like the sunlight," Thurman said.

I like to run to Metalchicks and rap, lol. Music is what keeps my feet moving, tbh!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 01:33 (sixteen years ago)
i'd have to keep skipping, cos i'm fussy even within my own 4+ star list
haha i kept tryna to make mixes for my runs but i wld always end up dissatisfied with them once i was out on the pavement & fucking around tryna find a song i liked wrecked my pace
also i tend to daydream when im running and music gets in the way of that
― coining (Lamp), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 04:31 (sixteen years ago)
Ran six miles last night. Loving the heat.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 13:20 (sixteen years ago)
i don't do music when i run, i like daydreaming toohaven't been at all since saturday because of dumb allergies. i can't breathe out my nose and my throat is all dry and scratchy :(
― Guns, Computer, The Internet (harbl), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 13:22 (sixteen years ago)
I've got allergies too. Hard to run when it feels like you are swallowing a pine cone.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 14:11 (sixteen years ago)
spit out the pine cone imo

Feeling better about the impending 5K now. Did a short run last night, my first in almost three weeks, to test out whether my knee would start hurting again. Although it felt a little sensitive, it didn't hurt while I was running, and then I preemptively iced it when I got home. Today it's slightly tender but doesn't hurt anywhere as bad as it did a week or so ago. I think I need to work to not push myself as hard, take slightly longer breaks between runs, and make myself do the exercises that are supposed to help with runner's knee.

i'm assuming they both translate to 'runs really fucking fast' in some common language.
2:15. i been tryin to convince my self that that isn't mins/secs
― Black IP's (darraghmac), Saturday, 8 May 2010 19:13 (sixteen years ago)
choge = runs really fast for a really long time?
― tehresa, Saturday, 8 May 2010 19:15 (sixteen years ago)
Kipchoge, is a Nandi language expression for "born near the grain storage shed" [5]. :(

Major knee pains after my run yesterday. Ugh.
― Jeff, Saturday, 8 May 2010 22:18 (sixteen years ago)
I got some crazy weird upper glute pain on one side while running today -- what could that possibly be about?
― tehresa, Sunday, 9 May 2010 00:38 (sixteen years ago)
as of ten minutes ago am now running 13.5k non-stop, albeit at a laboured 10 mins/km. still, if the half marathon gets finished at that pace i won't be gutted or anything.
― Black IP's (darraghmac), Sunday, 9 May 2010 22:50 (sixteen years ago)
Going to try to get going on this again after my premature 10K, this time working up in a sensible way. Thinking of alternating between 2.5 and 5 runs, about 4 runs per week, trying to very slowly get faster at both, and incorporating intervals once I've settled into the running habit. Sound like a plan?
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 May 2010 23:55 (sixteen years ago)
^ kinda what i did, but for one of those runs over a couple of weeks i stepped up distance little by little.
still not bothered about speed overmuch, as long as i'm making progress over distance.
knees are killing me today, to the extent where stairs are a problem, beginning to worry that all this road running might not be too good of an idea.
― Black IP's (darraghmac), Monday, 10 May 2010 10:55 (sixteen years ago)
ran my first 5k under 27 minutes –- six weeks into my training. not fast objectively, but fast for me. perpetual right knee pain, even with lots of stretching. but the pain seems to abate when i go to the gym and lift weights and stretch (w/o running).
― ampersand (remy bean), Monday, 10 May 2010 13:10 (sixteen years ago)
hey, that's fast, considering! i still don't really have any idea how fast/slow i am or how far 5k is within my usual routehave been steady running 3-5x a week tho and feeling excellent

Hey, I ran a 3 miler in 25 minutes last night (translates to a 5k in ~26 minutes, given the extra 0.1 mile) and I've been "training" for years. That's quite respectable!
