yea, i feel like jesse's dialogue has been a little ott lately. minor gripe though, i mean this episode holy shit! hank has really become the center of everything, which is cool shift in focus.

in the av club review they said that in the opening flashback the twins' uncle was talking to gus on the phone, referring to him as a south american and "generalissimo" - you guys get all that? i remember the line about not trusting south americans but i must've been zoning out on the other details.

he was speaking unfavorably about him with someone else i think? something like "some cook he is, more like fry cook." and then something else about how dirty south americans are.

I can't tell if they are setting up Jesse as having a death wish or just imply that he's too stupid to realize that's the natural consequence of his threats.

it's got to be a bit of both, like when they have that great dead serious monologue about how he's going to get Hank, but throw in some Jesse-isms like "I will haunt his crusty ass FOREVER"

Jesse has always been the herald of head-up-your-ass petulant peter pan punkitude. Losing cute chick just added a great deal of self-pity to the mix.

What I found weird about his rant was his saying walt had ruined his life etc. Like...seems he had nothing pre walt, now still has nothing but also is clean. He wouldn't have even met jane if it wasn't for walt!

that is literally what i said to the tv. "holy shit!" that came after several bits of advice to hank while he was in the car. he didn't seem to hear me.

and i love how like 10 seconds before he's like "hey marie. you know what, i got a feeling things might be OK!"

cannot even imagine what skyler's going to make of all this. surely she'll suspect that walt has somehow led this violence to hank (and she'd be right).

if hank lives or dies, he'll be a hero. defended himself against and ultimately took out two high-ranking Mexican cartel members? looks like he was on the right track all along. and the department was ready to suspend him for whaling on some street-level meth punk? please. they'll be handing him back his gun on their hands and knees. but what about his fucking head? if he lives, how does this not unravel him even further?

that scene with him and marie on the bed was fucking amazing.

it also occurs to me that this is exactly why the mexican cartels had an admonition against hitting DEA agents. it was Gus who said the rules could be bent. will he be blamed?

regardless, if the cartel was mad at Hank before, they're going to be a weensy bitter madder at him now (or at least Tio will be)

i thought the scene when Hank looses it in the elevator was def the highlight.

and Walt having to answer for what happened to Hank; never even entered my mind. that could... complicate things.

Bob Odenkirk was born to play Saul, I think. It's the only role I've really loved him in.

yes, let's forget that speech happened.

i think they went ott there to give an airtight excuse for walt to work with jesse again. walt can handle anything if it's thrown at him in the moment, but he has zero tolerance for premeditated action.

Yeah but the airtight excuse was that Jesse was going to roll on him. The crawling out of the jungle and popping a lawsuit on Hank's ass thing was just poorly written/acted.

Yeah, I thought both of his monologues were a bit overdone, like they felt the need to overcompensate for his being bedridden all episode

i agree with what Nhex said. it's Jesse trying to sound very dramatic and serious but falling short because, well, he's Jesse Pinkman.

he must have been feeling pretty helpless in the hospital after what he'd been through, and i'd imagine he was making a bid to be taken seriously. but he's not exactly the best orator the world has known.

Also, the second speech WAS pretty righteous - Jesse in his Cap'n Cook days didn't have people constantly trying to kill him, he wasn't being put in the hospital after being severely beaten because of Walt (this is the second time!), he was just a small fry and likely would've continued to be a petty criminal cooking chili meth. He had no Scarface aspirations until Walt showed up. True, at least he's clean now, but he's also closer than ever to getting killed by cartel goons and going to jail for decades.

i was fine with the second speech. The first one just was so longgggggggg. We get it, you're gonna make things tough on Hank.

just rewatching this. agree with too long on the first speech. i see the reasoning about jesse overdoing it for a reason, savoring the upper hand and all. i could maybe even see the dialogue working with a different delivery -- i just didn't buy it. if anything he was too verbose and collected. odenkirk's reaction was perfect though!

loved walt countering skyler's "hank's your family" line with "not currently." and i also learned that women who like to get peed on are always from the warmer climates.

man sometimes i forget the subtext for pretty much every conversation walt has had with jesse this season is letting jane die. i wonder if jesse will ever find out. watch your crusty ass, walt.

i hope jesse, hank, and the surviving twin don't all end up in the hospital together next ep. but then i kinda do

one problem I wondered about is the logistics of jesse cooking at Gus's meth HQ. Surely he'll be tailed by the DEA at all times? And if they follow him to the HQ, they're bound to see Walt and connect them both to Gus.

Assuming you're not talking about the dude whose cranium we were treated to an overhead interior shot of, you must be referring to the one whose torso was basically sectioned in half by Hank's truck? I can't see him walking away from that, unless, of course, you know something I don't..

He probably knows that the preview for next week's ep shows the surviving twin with menacing glare ripping out his IV.

that was driving me nuts, I couldn't remember where I'd seen the gun seller before: he's one of the creepy twins from Always Sunny in Philadelphia!

this is 100%. its like hes the first honest & ethical person in the show

that's why it seemed totally imminent was he going to die!

i dont know, that would have been pretty cheap, to cut the audience out seconds after giving them a character worth investing in (finally!) I mean i could understand w/ a longer arc, but that would have been super tacky in literally the next major scene

i would hope he had been planning all this stuff for a while, regardless of the Walt situation.
