u can no longer just "like" or "fan" something without it showing up in your interests; like these guys from college made a film and i "became a fan" to support them and see if it was screening and stuff, but it is not one of my "favorite" films--i haven't even seen it!

i was a "fan" of like 3 musical artists that i would not consider favorites, and not a "fan" of any book i like, and my "interests" weren't really fan-worthy, and the only movie i was a "fan" of was tommy boy so i guess that's my only favorite movie now

Facebook quickly becoming more useless, MySpace-like, and bloated by the minute

facebook is far from useless--but what it is becoming is not fun

like i figure eventually i'll use it for events and to msg people and that's about it

w/ the exception of occasional status updates & posts, that's all i use it for now, and i prefer email for messaging people

the only reason Facebook is more convenient than email is because it's a centralized, near-universal directory of people directly hooked up to a central messaging service

of course, everything is stuck in FB's walled garden, and in some ways their messaging system isn't nearly as robust as email

eventually, that'll probably change -- i've seen people guess that FB will eventually make it so that every user has a FB email address connected to their accounts so messages can be sent from FB to email and from email to FB. you can already respond to some activity on FB via email now

wait, so if you add something to, say, your "Favorite Music" you automatically "Like" it in the sense that you sign up for a fan page for it?

someone just added their last.fm URL to their "Favorite Music" and it showed up in my News Feed as something they "Liked," and now there's a FB page for their last.fm page

yeah i was forced to wipe my whole profile cuz i wouldn't link my profile to any pages

i wiped my whole profile a few weeks ago and then today the "suggestions" thing popped up with all the shit i had deleted

also, love how the pop up is totally designed to make it as difficult as possible to NOT link to any pages

I'll co-sign this. It's still the default way to contact most people I'm not on phone or AIM terms with, but if the site keeps getting more annoying I'll be there at the Zuckerberg mob lynching with a sharpened pitchfork.

if you go to your "info" page on your profile does everything suddenly have links? That's the only way you can tell really, and people hardly ever visit that. sneaky fuckers facebook are.

yeah, but they're public though -- you can set it so that only your friends can see them on your profile, but they still appear in public at the other end of the links, and to applications, and sites that your friends are visiting.

It's really hard to explain this shit, I'm sure that's not accidental.
