I have a neutral stride with a wee touch of underpronation

Maybe try Asics Gel Stratus or Saucony Grid Fusion 2? I think they're both very neutral and are at the cheaper end of both ranges of cushioning shoe. Haven't used either myself, but have run in the next ones up which just have some extra twiddly bits but probably no real performance advantages.

i can only provide motivational help and relief from competitive stress; no shoe tips sorry :(

relief from competitive stress;

this was so successful that it played HAVOC with my times last week so no thanks to u imo.

just darraghmac tbh (darraghmac), Friday, 30 April 2010 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

so like, after a big bowl of pasta, how long should u wait to go for like ¿8? miles?

plax (ico), Friday, 30 April 2010 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

i ask bc i just ate one

plax (ico), Friday, 30 April 2010 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

Dunno, but you should probably wait 1 hour before swimming.

For real though, why wait? The only reason I could think of to wait would be concerns over bowel activity.

fabulous mussels (Jesse), Friday, 30 April 2010 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

well, major stitch

plax (ico), Friday, 30 April 2010 17:10 (sixteen years ago)

dog balked on me but i'm about to go try a 3/4 mile fun run solo for the first time since i twisted my ankle. It's still a slight bit balky, but 1/2 hour stationary bikes every day have it loose and i gotta start sooner or later. here goes.

just darraghmac tbh (darraghmac), Friday, 30 April 2010 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

did 5 miles a few times now and feeling great! Running regularly is really becoming just a part of my life and it's pretty dope.

Aerosol, Friday, 30 April 2010 21:15 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, once you get up to three times a week regularly, it gets much easier to get out there.

I'm enjoying the weather here. 70 degrees is awesome to run in. I also had a random ILXor sighting while running today. That was odd.

Jeff, Saturday, 1 May 2010 06:50 (sixteen years ago)

who'd you see? i saw no one when i went out this morning.

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Saturday, 1 May 2010 12:21 (sixteen years ago)

Chicago Kevin. At Monroe harbor of all places. I don't think I've seen him for a year or so previously.

Jeff, Saturday, 1 May 2010 12:23 (sixteen years ago)

weird! it would be extra weird if i saw someone way up here.
wait, monroe or montrose?

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Saturday, 1 May 2010 12:33 (sixteen years ago)

Monroe

Jeff, Saturday, 1 May 2010 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

I suppose seeing him at montrose woud be odd too.

Jeff, Saturday, 1 May 2010 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

62 mins! an improvement of 15 mins on last week. :)

scrappy dyaoo (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 May 2010 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

Wow! Well done!!

Did you wildly sprint at the very end without planning to? I felt like I did, but pics on line later showed what I was really doing (trotting + sagging)

ljubljana, Saturday, 1 May 2010 14:30 (sixteen years ago)

You saw kevin this morning downtown?? Was he lost?

fabulous mussels (Jesse), Saturday, 1 May 2010 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

xp, yeah, totally did. felt a bit of a dick passing people close to the line, but it was for my time rather than placement so no guilt

scrappy dyaoo (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 May 2010 14:50 (sixteen years ago)

Just before the finish is the best place to pass ppl. You can gain like 10 spots that way.

Kevin was not lost. He said why he was there on jenny's fb wall but I forgot the reason.

Jeff, Saturday, 1 May 2010 15:11 (sixteen years ago)

my watch died and it's hot and i have allergies so i just ran 1.3 miles and walked back, it was still fun

Guns, Computer, The Internet (harbl), Saturday, 1 May 2010 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

Woke up at 4:30, dressed, made espresso, packed a couple Hammer gels, drove down to the lake/trail... result: 21 miles in about 3:45.

johnny crunch, Saturday, 1 May 2010 16:08 (sixteen years ago)

One day I will be able to nonchalantly run 20+ miles.

Today I ran 5. It's so humid, it looks like I went swimming.

Jeff, Saturday, 1 May 2010 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

hey y'all

my running has been so rare lately and i am so sad but when i DO go out i feel great - like not getting too worn out and my legs don't get sore. big problem today was that it was sunny and 85 which makes breathing hot air really disgusting. i went into the woods to run on some trails but i am now nervous about getting poison ivy. i also stepped in the creek by accident. totally miss running in seattle :(

tehresa, Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:04 (sixteen years ago)

i am so averse to running in the morning but i think i'm going to have to start going out at 6am to avoid heat and be able to run more often.

tehresa, Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:06 (sixteen years ago)

12k in 55 mins BITCHES!! (this is def my best time yet)

t, would you not prefer to go in the evening when it cools down (i mean i know i have island weather but the golden hour is choice imo)

plax (ico), Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

in the summer it doesn't cool down before dark ime
pollen is ridic today, i feel sick

Guns, Computer, The Internet (harbl), Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

i wanna run in the morning too. last year i remember it would often be in the 70s before 8 am but still above 85 just before dark

Guns, Computer, The Internet (harbl), Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:12 (sixteen years ago)

i would prefer to go in the evening but the problem is that i don't get home til 7:40ish most days, later if i have to work an event/show, so it's not practical to go run and then try to eat dinner and get to bed in any sort of timely manner. also by the end of the day i'm so worn out (esp after commute) i can't even think about it. this will change when i move closer to work, thank god.

tehresa, Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

62 mins! an improvement of 15 mins on last week. :)

Yay! THat's a fantastic improvement in a week! Hope you managed to dodge the drug test at the finish...

Ilxor, if you ever want to sell me your legs, I've got the cash right here.

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:43 (sixteen years ago)

12k in 55 mins BITCHES!! (this is def my best time yet)

Can't work out how fast this is in miles per minute cos my mind is rubbish, but this sounds solid!

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

mad props

tehresa, Saturday, 1 May 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

going out at 6am to avoid heat and be able to run more often
i woke up at 5:45 today to go out and it was luxuriously quiet out there b/c it's saturday
granted, i work on sat. mornings, but if i get up and run with the dog before work i feel good about eating startling amts of vietnamese food after work.

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Saturday, 1 May 2010 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

think i will sign up for race for the cure team at work because it's a saturday morning 5k one month away. that way i have some kind of goal that makes morning running more reasonable?

tehresa, Saturday, 1 May 2010 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

Was thinking of signing up at work for the same thing!

ljubljana, Sunday, 2 May 2010 00:39 (sixteen years ago)

well, i signed up about an hour ago and already raised $120 of my $125 goal thanks to two very, very generous people, so maybe i'll aim a little higher :)

tehresa, Sunday, 2 May 2010 00:41 (sixteen years ago)

i think this means i have to run really fast, too. or something.

tehresa, Sunday, 2 May 2010 00:41 (sixteen years ago)

Hope you managed to dodge the drug test at the finish...

Hahaha!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Sunday, 2 May 2010 03:46 (sixteen years ago)

This was a beautiful morning for a run 70 and windy! But I didn't take advantage of it. Walked to the gym, tried to take a "boot camp" class, but the mob of regulars elbowed me out of the way and got all the equipment. So I ran on the treadmill. I did one of my miles in 7:21. IT SUCKED SO BAD.

fabulous mussels (Jesse), Sunday, 2 May 2010 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

Now that I've been running outside for a couple of years, I don't think I can ever step on a treadmill again.

Jeff, Sunday, 2 May 2010 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

Why not?

fabulous mussels (Jesse), Sunday, 2 May 2010 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

The Bally's in your hood is starting to piss me off - a number of the treadmills are somehow bouncy in a way that makes it feel like you could twist your ankle. And sometimes the belts slips, which is really terrifying, esp. at higher speeds.

fabulous mussels (Jesse), Sunday, 2 May 2010 05:28 (sixteen years ago)

Because treadmill running is boring and monotonous.

Jeff, Sunday, 2 May 2010 06:40 (sixteen years ago)

i was such a dumbass before and never brought water, but on longer runs it really makes a difference. was i the only one who never di this?

plax (ico), Sunday, 2 May 2010 10:13 (sixteen years ago)

I do in the winter but since the bubblers are back on, I'm running without my bottle these days. It's nice, I like not having to carry anything.

Jeff, Sunday, 2 May 2010 11:47 (sixteen years ago)

i can't do treadmill. i feel like i can't breathe on them because the air is standing still (i mean i *can* breathe it just seems like i'm not). and they are boring.

Guns, Computer, The Internet (harbl), Sunday, 2 May 2010 12:49 (sixteen years ago)

i feel like i can't breathe when it's 85º because the air is standing still! i like treadmills for intervals but i agree, they are very boring!
