Fringe (new JJ Abrams show) : Mad scientist, flesh eating virus, a cow and talks with the dead

Yeah it was a bit ridic, one of those "well, we better pause a minute so we don't run out of story arc" eps.

really? I liked it a lot, as a sort of fairy-tale representation of the Walter/Peter situation. Loved their weird little semi-steampunk additions, the weird cell phones, the wooden laptop...seemed like they had fun with this episode. A little indulgent, sure...but I dug it. Loved the musical interludes...Dunham doing her Stevie Wonder, and as a Wire fan, seeing Daniels SING was awesome.

Great episode and great timing to for a dramatic pause in a dramatic story arc. I mean it would be kind of weird if Peter came back immediately. Not to mention that there is 1 new twist in this current story arc (what the bald guy said at the end of the episode).

Back to this episode. The music was lols and the singing was pretty damn good (especially Astrid). "The Candyman" with singing corpses was also awesome. The first two songs that Walter played on the records after smoking pot were awesome ("Roundabout" and "Head Over Heals"). Those are two of my favorite songs and I still have friends who probably couldn't even recognize them. I also got lols while seeing Olivia try to use her cellphone while drowning in the coffin (the goofy mix of 30s or 40s with future technology). It was a happy, heartfelt episode with some great dialog and parallels to the current story arc. The sad ending actually made me feel sad for Walter. Oh and "reverse operation" was very clever as well. Lots of goodies. I'm glad I watched this today when I was refreshed rather than last night when I was hella tired.

I had to watch the Robocop train episode twice because the first time I saw it I practically fell asleep (I watched it really late after my night shift). The second viewing (or 3rd or 4th for some parts) proved this to be a great episode as well. VegemiteGrrrl said it best: "Gorgeous twist in the timetravel trope, really beautiful surprise ending".

Kind of brutal to ask Anna Torv to try to do a hard-boiled accent, but man this episode was a delight.

I think there may have been a Twin Peaks vibe in this episode but I never watched much Twin Peaks
I didn't see the ending coming but my dad did

I had my suspicions, but it was still a cool surprise reveal. I hope people didn't tune out because they thought Peter rockin' the mixtape was the end.

I thought the story arc stuff seemed kind of shoehorned in at the end. I liked the idea of Peter, low on sleep, solving a local crime with no real fringe division content. Having him read weird stuff into every situation gives a good outsider perspective.

Then there's the reveal at the end with hey, that dude really was in the woods, and btw Walternate is here.

Come on, between the ppl on this thread speculating that Walternate was waging war on "our" universe and the heavy-handed treatment of MYSTERIOUS SECRETARY, that was no surprise at all. I did, however, get my nerd wires crossed with all the talks of cracks in the universe.

Like, I don't think any other show is comprised so much of episodes that are about killing time for 40 minutes just so it can end on a cliffhanger.

Plus I'm curious as to how many of the season finale part 1 characters have been on before. Have all the super power/test subjects people been on the show before. Also didn't I hear that there is 5 of them still around in working condition and then they only show 3 (if black dude wasn't counting Olive).

Definitely remember the healer guy. Vaguely recall the other two but I don't know. Was her bf the guy from the pilot?

Definitely not the same guy as on the pilot. Also, the third agent on the other side (the one who got torched) was familiar but I couldn't place him.

curer was from the "oliva. in the lab. with the revolver" episode, empathist was in "bad dreams", and the pyro hasn't been in it before

loved the twin peaks ep (<3 <3 martha plimpton for all time), wasn't crazy about part 1 of finale... i did not think alt-olivia was hot. torched agent has been in something though... he seemed super familiar but i can't place him.

Alt-Olivia had stupid bangs.

she also seemed really lame!

The kakis fashion was kinda cool though. Her personality seems way different - must of had a more happy, spress-free life. Maybe the alt-people are all hopped up on drugs. The one agent dude (forget his name) did take a shot of something...

haha this episode was ridiculous!

i like how they've built up quite slowly over 2 seasons to basically going all-out bonkers in that episode.

i mean none of it makes any sense really but it's always fairly light-hearted and there is a great sense of humour underpinning this show. it makes a great tonic to the dire final season of lost.

Hey, so, I forget whether or not Pyro burns herself up when she does the big flameout. Like, we saw one charred stain on the ground which is the Empathist, and then Olive the Other Olive's barbecued team leader, but I'ma wager Pyro is going to come back into play next week.

Altlivia is less cold but hates alcohol, so she's gotta go.

OK so I checked everyone up: projected emotions guy was from season 1, the first Akiva Goldsman written episode. pyro was from Goldsman's second episode -- she was the twin sister of another cortexiphan testee who spontaneously combusted, and she came close to blowing up too. so yes, they're dead. the guy who dies right after transporting originally had the special power of transferring his fast-growing cancer to other people. special agent Lee and alt-Olivia's BF are new.
