this is the same place that charges $8 for a plate of bread and "artisanal" butters, so go figure. i love the food at the ssam bar, but at this point i think that d.chang sits around cackling while playing in ballpit filled with money.

duck fat fried potaters sound yumm yum

ian, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

Avoid Bobo. Bruni's review last week in the NYT was pretty spot on. At least it wasn't frighteningly expensive. Among the most disappointing tasting menus I've had. At least the wine pairings were pretty great.

Oh, and I finally ate at Shake Shack. Them burgers are good but I thought the mushroom burgers were basically fried cheese balls.

Dandy Don Weiner, Sunday, 9 November 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

oh god I want to eat here so badly

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

put points on your face (ice cr?m), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

kind of dreading the prices, though.

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

fried poached egg sandwich + chorizo challah + pistachio soft serve = perfect brunch?

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

gabbneb, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

z z. st. z z. uv (Lamp), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

er boulud

z z. st. z z. uv (Lamp), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:40 (seventeen years ago)

dudes i finally tried no. 7! and loved it!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)

one of my friends has been raving about bar boulud. her mother comes into town fairly often, and that's been their go-to spot. it's a bit pricey for me at the moment, though i'd love to try it.

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

i want a job where i get paid to eat at these places because its going to be very difficult to keep eating at nice restaurants when im not living with parents and have to pay rent

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't been to bar boulud. based on limited experience, i'm not a big fan of his. I might try it for lunch at some point, tho.

gabbneb, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

ojeez prokandegg bun dasgmggggggggg

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

Momofuku milk bar is dangerously close to my office, I'm worried about fried poached eggs becoming the foundation of my personal food pyramid.

saudade, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

same here. for me, it's the perfect stop-off on the way in.

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

i just had a fried poached on my salad at no. 7 and it was decadent for sure

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

those eggs/that salad were my favorite part of the meal

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

ack theater district, i hate you. not a lot of time to meet someone for quick dinner before play tonight. i have thought of uncle nick's ouzaria or empanada mama, but i dunno... a place closer to theater that is not $$$ would be good...

;n_n; (tehresa), Friday, 14 November 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

I just had a mediocre lunch because all I could think of was Milk Bar. What's wrong with me?

xpost - 10 Downing looks promising but...yeah, it fucking looks promising.

Dandy Don Weiner, Friday, 14 November 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

put points on your face (ice cr?m), Friday, 14 November 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

MM!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

the restaurant is really nice and spacious - the vibe at the bar is off tho

put points on your face (ice cr?m), Friday, 14 November 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i was surprised at how spacious it was!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

gabbneb, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

Salt has become a cliched ingredient in hipster desserts these days

you're too hip baby

m coleman, Saturday, 15 November 2008 12:15 (seventeen years ago)

some people don't like it, you know

gabbneb, Saturday, 15 November 2008 12:38 (seventeen years ago)

textbook one-upsmanship: "you think salty desserts are hip? total cliche dude."

m coleman, Saturday, 15 November 2008 13:08 (seventeen years ago)

like to try some salty caramel thingie but I don't travel in hipsters circles (ceot for the internet)

m coleman, Saturday, 15 November 2008 13:09 (seventeen years ago)

wtf does 'hipster desserts' mean

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Saturday, 15 November 2008 13:25 (seventeen years ago)

shhhh max questioning hipster bashing threatens the very foundation of ilx as we know

ketchup bro (ice cr?m), Saturday, 15 November 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

"hipster" come to completely and exactly supplant "hippie" as the catch-all word for young people with fashionable clothes whose source of income is unknown but probably suspect and who seem to be irritatingly more sexually successful than we/i are/am

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 15 November 2008 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

um, what? i think the hippie connection makes sense in that people have used both terms with disdain to refer to the inauthenticity of the fashion/behavior choices involved, but as for sex (do hipsters have sex? i didn't know), we, like, don't live in the '60s anymore and stuff.

gabbneb, Saturday, 15 November 2008 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

guys, i discovered the perfect allnight local diner. CITY LIGHTS. best fried food on this side of flatbush ;) ok but seriously it was so good and so close and sooo 24hrs
