Guy from school I haven't had any contact with in ten years has now requested (and been rejected) four times. This is (perhaps mean but..) his profile picture:

This week, Facebook is rolling out Facebook Chat, a new way for users to communicate with their friends in real-time. Facebook will show users which of their friends are online when they are, so that they do not need to create or maintain a separate buddy list. Users also do not have to worry about any additional installation or set up. Facebook Chat works directly in the browser. Just as other features on Facebook have allowed friends to communicate more efficiently than before, we hope Facebook Chat will make it easier to connect instantly.
It's being rolled out slowly, which probably is why you can't see it yet.

facebook chat is actually well-implemented as far as I can tell, not that I'd use it for anything other than accidentally catching someone online

when you remove ppl from your friends list, do they receive notification?
― braveclub, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago) link
No, I just took someone off this weekend (was in my address book, I don't really know her) - it asks for confirmation and says the person won't be notified.
― Jaq, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:04 (sixteen years ago) link
I really wish actual friends would stop using facebook to shove their businesses/personal interests down my throat. No I don't want to become a fan of your fucking contracting company. No I don't want to be 'invited' to your latest podcast about manga.

haha
― admrl, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 21:07 (sixteen years ago) link
i just removed a friend because she was posting too many pictures and comments and the constant notifications were clogging up my home page. i would have preferred not to de-friend her but i don't think there's any other way to do it.
― get bent, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:23 (sixteen years ago) link
You can tell it to "show less" from particular friends, and it will, as long as your other friends are doing enough stuff.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link
It's under the preferences link down at the bottom of the news feed section.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:29 (sixteen years ago) link
Really?? Brilliant.
I've not removed anyone yet, but I have ignored all invitation from one person who kept flooding my screen with invitations to every rubbish app she could get her hands on.
― Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:49 (sixteen years ago) link
nice one. my mate's sister spends all day adding friends, making comments, posting photos, etc... so abut half the "news" i get is her facebook-addict activity. i don't want to delete her tho, so this "show less" thing sounds good...
