Are you really, seriously asking how your are behaving in an entitled manner in this situation? Mr. Que's display name is his; it is how he is known on the boards. He gets a say if someone else decides to use it as part of their display name. That's how it works. K3v doesn't have any reasonable footing to not change his display name to something else. It may be a harmless joke and it may be well-intentioned, but the ownership of that name on ILX lies with Que and he gets to say what happens with the name. (I'm not going to try to play mind reader to figure out why Que objected because it isn't important.)

K3v refusal required a moderator's response to clear up the ambiguity. Que could have a made a bigger deal about it and posted on IMP! or MRF or he could have dropped it; in either case, the point was not so much that OH NOES k3vink is using Que's name in a display name joke as much as it was there seemed to be a misconception that display names are free-for-all pieces of information and that no one had any expectation of being able to reserve their display name for use on their own posts (obv there are issues like Jordan/J0rdan S which work themselves out by one person adopting an alternate spelling). You then butted in to give an opinion that is an incorrect interpretation of the messageboard's policy on a situation that had nothing to do with you and went out of your way to insult the person doing the asking.

Just to be clear, the issue here isn't that using other people's display names in your own is forbidden; the issue is that the person whose name your using does have the right to ask you to change it and will get mod backup to enforce a change if he/she asks.

this is otm, and personally i feel that when both/all sides of an argument are being a little hostile (but far from over the line) and the one that happens to be a mod decides at one point to tempban the other as a trump card/argument ender, it's a fucking bully move and the other mods shouldn't just stand around letting that seem totally fine and dandy.

i mean i hate to break it to you guys but as much as the mods love to act like the downtrodden unappreciated underclass, you still have all the what-amounts-to-"power"-around-here and should feel some obligation not to throw your weight around anytime you're feeling a little pissy.

There's pretty much no way to respond to that. If you really don't think calling people names is over the line, then we aren't going to agree. It's pretty much established on this thread that people read what I write from the standpoint of frothing fury regardless of how I'm actually feeling. Add those two things together and basically any time I do anything, I am overstepping my bounds and being a bully.
